Blasphemy & Genocide: Unpopular Green Day Opinions, Part 2

AI not being a part of your top 3 is the most insane thing I've seen in this thread. Especially being behind the trilogy. :P

Castaway and Church on Sunday??

Well.....no because those are songs you like, that I don't like.

To me, rating albums is sort of an exercise in futility. Depending on the day/my mood, I might rank Tre above American Idiot. It just depends, man.

Must be a horrible day/mood for that to happen.

Happens to the best of us!

Well he'd never done growling on record before, so that fulfils the diversification aspect. Whether it's actually any good or not is another matter.

Well, at least he isn't any worse at it as the front men of all these generic Nu metal bands that everyone seems to love for some reason.

Whoa, Christian's inferno

Whoa, Christian's inferno

Whoa, Christian's inferno

Whoa, Christian's inferno

It really adds to the message and emotion of the song in such a creative manner, doesn't it?

I sat through another hour of that album and I never found out why Christian was inferno.

Don't you just hate cliffhangers?

I'd say it's hands down the most aggressive and closest to hardcore punk sounding song they've ever done even without the growling. That's the icing on the cake that makes it really stand out but I think the rest of it does as well. Might have the same basic structure but there's a lot more to a song than that, I think it sounds strikingly different.

Yes yes, two more great albums :P. At a push I can separate it out to trilogy, 21st CB and Nimrod in first place and Dookie and AI (and Stop Drop and Roll as well actually lol) just behind them in second place, but those 6 are all perfect to me really so don't worry.

My lower ranking ones are pretty standard though I think, if that makes you feel better : Insomniac > Warning > Kerplunk > 39/Smooth

Unfortunately, Billie is absolutely godawful at hardcore growling. It makes me cringe every single time :D

Yeah pretty much, it's quite fun though

Probably true but it's cute :D, makes it just sound like a very wound up/angry person rather than a genuinely scary/menacing person, which fits alright for Billie. And even if you just see it as bad I'm sure it's still entertaining . He makes up for it with the wonderfully spiteful verses he spits out in any case.

Every night I've been running wild like a...runaway. :toocool:

Compared to "There's no return from 86," not exactly. Compared to "I'll make you surrender"...um, I think so.

Are you saying that the 86 lyric makes no sense?

They were 86ed (common saying in the US) from the Gilman Punk scene and Billie is essentially saying he and his band can't go back to Gilman and that Gilman better not come crawling back to them.

Who else here hopes that Green Day re-record C&V for the next album, something that sounds as raw as Demolicious, I know a few songs from it were used in the trilogy but I think they know how much fans want another official album with that 1992 sound.

As far as we know no songs from c&v are on the trilogy

No in a int back in 09/10 Mike did say a song on c&v was called Walk Away

But other than that we have no evidence the one on ¡Tre! is the same song it could be but could be a totally different song until someone asks the band that we're clueless

That went well.

And to add to the discussion:

99 Revs = semi butt

SDV = semi butt

Rest = not butt

I really hate abbreviations. What is SDV?

It's a great album, but Kerplunk is my least favorite. I used to think that 1039/Smooth was my least, but it's much better in my opinion. Kerplunk just has a lot of songs that I could skip.

Sex, Drugs & Violence (I'm assuming)

Yeah, Sex, Drugs and Violence. I'm just too lazy to write it out :P

I actually prefer Stop drop and roll to a few Green Day albums

Rest is great, I don't know why so many hate. I'm sure if GD play today, everyone would be praise that song. It is a better anthem stadium rock song than Oh Love to my taste.

86 is the song that resumes Green Day's stance about life. It could be a little bit poor in lyrics, but when you know all the story, the song gets an awesome twist.

I find Sex, Drugs and Violence pretty interesting. I think that it represents a BJ's though about getting back in school and finish his last few year or years, but as a millionaire right now, is senseless.

I lost the rest of my head and my ideas. Don't care 'bout it.

Me too! It's utterly fabulous and on a par with the rest of their stuff musically and lyrically.

You got me backwards. I have high respect for 86. And for that matter, Insomniac as a whole.
