What the fuck is a train buddy?

Something Ken Pepper and myself did as a joke between us. Ask Ken.

I still don't get it when people rank the Trilogy together. I mean, they're three different albums, how does it make sense?

I love every single song on the trilogy and I rank them higher than the others I posted so it works for me, maybe not for other people though.

I agree with him, and if you think that all three albums are of the same quality, it's just easier to rank them together.

LOL Seriously, if I put every song in the trilogy in order, in a playlist, I could listen to that bastard the whole way though and have a blast just singing along to every song. Demolicious makes some of the songs even better!

Tré is miles ahead of the other two, and Dos is easily the worst thing to ever bear the name of Green Day. Uno is somewhere in the middle, I guess.

They're still all in my bottom three Green Day albums, regardless.

Yup, totally agree with you there!

It's just pure Green Day to me, and I love every second of it.

Not sure exactly how to word this but my favorite songs are the ones where Billie writes about his marriage/relationships in an apologetic type of way like Worry Rock, Church on Sunday, Scattered, Redundant and such. I really relate to him best when he's in that mode and just wants to make things right for his past mistakes.

How. How is something that is soooo far from anything Green Day's ever been "pure Green Day"?

I swear I'll be posting this til I die but the trilogy lacked everything that made their previous work standout.

  • Mike-Billie Harmonies
  • Basslines
  • Billie's iconic sneer
  • A coherent theme/message
  • Lyrics that could easily form a connection with a majority of listeners.
  • Top notch production (Referring more to their latter work here)

Maybe, instead of having some of my favorite lyrics in my signature, I should just put really bad ones from the trilogy to make a point.

I just think they're fun albums. I don't think about lyrics, I don't think about how the snare hit sounds, I just sing and bounce around like an idiot to it. Dats it mane. Some people need more out of the albums and I just don't, maybe thats why they appeal more to me..

I understand that sentiment completely, but they have other albums with better melodies throughout. Dookie comes to mind.

I don't know what to tell you besides I just disagree with you. I feel like the trilogy is 37 classic GD tunes, I connect to the lyrics, and I feel that Mike's signature basslines are more present here than the three previous albums. The harmonies are different, and while I prefer Mike's harmonies, I think Billie does a fine job with them. I have no major issues with the production, at times it could be better but it doesn't detract from the music, and on certain songs I think the production and clean guitar tone really work.

And I agree with that! I ranked AI, Dookie, and Nimrod all above the trilogy :D

Edit: At least we can all agree that Green Day are fucking amazing am i rite? :ga:

well this is an opinion thread haha

Yeah fair point :P

I love it when artists reference things they encounter as musicians. For me, it feels a bit contrived when they're millionaires and still write as though they're working class. American Idiot was different because it felt like more of a story, but 21CB never really resonated with me for that reason. I love the music, but the lyrics irk me a little. That said, in Viva La Gloria! when BJ sings: "I can hear it like a jilted crowd" it gives me goosebumps.

Dunno how that's relevant to anything but we were talking about lyrics so... :P

When talking about 99 Revs a year or two back, Billie said that while he technically is part of the 1%, his roots and background is most definitely part of the 99%, so I guess that could be one explanation.

Doesn't stop 99 Revs from being a pretentious, bandwagon hopping load of wank, though.

Unpopular opinion? Everyone on this thread secretly loves the Trilogy. They just say they hate it because they're tsundere and can't admit their true feelings.

Do I win?
