Blasphemy & Genocide: Unpopular Green Day Opinions, Part 2

Since I'm kinda getting tired of all the opinions on the Trilogy, I'm gonna post a different opinion.

Now I don't know if this is really unpopular or not, but I believe Nimrod is one of the absolute best albums Green Day has ever made. It is up there with American Idiot in my book. I have such an emotional connection with about 5/6 of the songs on there (and then of course there are songs like King For a Day, which is just fun).

I actually kind of like Little Boy Named Train

I never thought it was bad, but some of the lyrics are awful.

If I asked you again would you tell me the same?

I like Nimrod and its a solid album but I just never loved it. Not sure why

Same. I think it's one of their best, but I can't form any sort of attachment to it.

It's a decent album IMO, It's just really hard for me to listen to all the way through.

Nimrod isn't their best album but definitely has some of their best songs on it. Redundant, Scattered, The Grouch, Prosthetic Head and Uptight are all essential listening. The production is near-perfect too, probably only topped by Breakdown.

Agreed with Tom, Nimrod's production is A+. I do think it's one of Green Day's best albums. Does it lack the cohesion of an album like AI or 21CBD? Yes, it does, but nearly all of the songs on it are really beautifully crafted and are some of Green Day's most high quality work. As I've said in the past, Nimrod is proof that Green Day can play around with different styles successfully and in a way that resonates with their fanbase.

Nimrod. is definitely the album of theirs that I'd take to a desert island with me. And it's definitely their best album to just listen to on the radio while driving around on a summer day. So much fun.

I still say it's their best-produced, actually. The vocal filters on 21CB are nowhere near as bad as they are on the Trilogy, but they still are distracting, and the compression can be annoying. Plus the bass gets buried in the mix. On Nimrod., all of the instruments are perfectly balanced—the bass doesn't dominate but is still quite audible, and Tre's drums sound magnificent—especially on "Hitchin' a Ride" after the "1, 2, 1-2-3-4" in each verse, the kick is incredible. It's less flat than both Dookie and Insomniac without becoming overcompressed. The only song on the album that I don't like the production of is "Nice Guys Finish Last"; it still feels a little flat for whatever reason.

Yeah, I think the production on Nimrod is really top notch. It perfectly captures the sound and spirit of '90's Green Day'.

Yes! I like it too. I've no idea why. Call it a guilty secret.

Love Nimrod. 3rd Favourite album for me behind AI and Dookie. Brilliant album.

Production is nice and all but I still don't have Nimrod high on my list of favorites.

I'd rank em: AI, Insomniac, 21CB, Warning, Dookie, Kerplunk, Nimrod, Tre, Uno, 39/Smooth, Dos

The only song the album that really cracks my top 10 is Good Riddance. But there are some songs like Nice Guys Finish Last, Worry Rock, All the Time, Take Back, Platypus, and Jinx that aren't necessarily bad but they really don't do much for me. The melodies and vocals just don't match up to other albums overall for me either. But I can appreciate that they were diversifying their style a bit so when I rank it one spot above Tre I would like to note that Tre, Uno, 39/Smooth, and Dos are MILES BEHIND the rest.

Very good album but I could come up with a number of reasons why I favor the others more.

Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion or not, but I really can't stand the majority of Warning. The only songs I like off that record are Waiting, Minority and Macy's Day Parade.

Ahh Nimrod . My joint favourite along with the trilogy and 21st CB (I'm greedy). It's perfection, including (here comes the unpopular opinion part :P) Last Ride In and Take Back. Even though the songs are really varied I think they still succeeded in making it cohesive, it's very subtle but there's a retro/surfy feeling running through it which is cemented particularly well by the interlude of the really retro/surfy Last Ride In in the middle and makes the whole thing flow together despite it's twists and turns. And the absolute beauty of it is it's variety, of which Take Back is one of the most extreme examples. Can't fault the album.

AI not being a part of your top 3 is the most insane thing I've seen in this thread. Especially being behind the trilogy. :P

Castaway and Church on Sunday??

The best songs on Warning are clearly Macy's Day Parade (totes my funeral song, srsly) and Misery. So there.

I'm not a huge fan of the first two tracks on Warning, the rest is pretty ace though.

How was Take Back diversifying their sound though? It's standard GD fare, 3 or 4 chords, verse/chorus/verse etc., 4/4 time. The only difference is that Billie growls the chorus.

Well he'd never done growling on record before, so that fulfils the diversification aspect. Whether it's actually any good or not is another matter.

If you can't get into Castaway there is something wrong with you, though I agree that Warning is one of my least favorite albums.

I rank them: AI, Dookie, Nimrod, The Trilogy, 21st CB, Kerplunk, Insomniac, Warning, 39 Smooth. (From best to last)

What the fuck is a train buddy?

I still don't get it when people rank the Trilogy together. I mean, they're three different albums, how does it make sense?
