Do you think the reason Green Day had no pyro, stage props and the run this tour was to do with lack of sales?

I doubt it, I don't think they make most of their money from selling CDs, it's touring that makes money. They've said that they lost money on the 21st CB tour because of having such a big show and still keeping ticket prices reasonable, so it's probably that they couldn't afford to do that again. In fact Billie indicated that they likely wouldn't be doing that again before any of the trilogy albums came out so pretty sure they'd already decided on making the show smaller before they knew anything about album sales. I imagine they felt that a tour supporting less grandiose albums didn't need as big a show, so they might not have thought it was as big a sacrifice to make as it would've been if they'd tried to do things smaller on the 21st CB tour.

By the way a question like this should really be in the Q&A thread, this thread's big enough so we should try to keep it for unpopular opinions.

No worries, just always trying to make sure not everything gets posted in this thread :D

I miss that as well! Just viewing wise it means that twice as many people can be on the barrier and loads more people get a good view for some of the show. I don't care about pyro and other stuff at all but I hope they bring that back in future. Surely it can't cost that much :P

Only around $20,000 a night :P

I hope they do smaller shows next time they tour, Emirates was too big for me tbh :P I got second barrier though, wasn't too bad I guess.

Uptight is one of the gd songs I instantly think of to show Billie's better lyrics. He writes best when he's self depreciating and snarky I think.

I think the demo of Missing You may have cracked my all time top 10 Green Day songs. I loved it anyway but to hear it with some balls is amazing.

'We all want to go to heaven but no-one wants to die' is one of the best lyrics in the Trilogy, even though it wasn't on the Trilogy.

Shame it's a Peter Tosh quote, isn't it?

I guess that shows just how bad the rest of the Trilogy lyrics were if someone who isn't in Green Day can write a better Green Day lyric than Green Day can

Though as someone mentioned recently, I also quite like 'you led me to the well but wouldn't let me drink, swallowing my pride and I never even got the taste' from Ashley, so maybe that can take the mantle of being one of the Trilogy's best lyrics.

well ik restless heart syndrome and uptight were compared before, i think it had to do with buildup

I wouldn't say uptight is a release of tension so much as a "Thanks fuck that long, dull verse is finally over!". RHS feels like a climax to a really tense short story to me.

Probably one of the reasons they didn't see it fit to be on the trilogy.

I would love to see all that at a Green Day show. I imagine it would make the show more impressive, like the gummy sweet on top of an empire biscuit. But Green Day do put on fucking amazing shows without it. The show I was at was something special :-)

:shok: It's probably my favorite of theirs.

The only Green Day covers I outright hate are Kerplunk and 1,039. And while I'm a fan of the Trilogy's neon colors, the photos of the guys leave much to be desired. :P

Why's that? They make a lot of references in their lyrics and music, and it's not a 100% direct quote.

its essentially the same they sub 'everyone' for 'we'. And I think because that line is really the lyrical centerpiece for the song it would be good reason not to use it. Are there other GD songs like that? I understand referencing and small phrases but that is a long one to me by song lyric standards.

Insomniac's cover bugs the hell out of me only because the colors are so washed out. In my digital collections I use a more saturated version.

Explain this treachery

Brutal Love is okay. While it does showcase BJA's above average vocal talent, it does so at the expense of being too long, awkwardly structured, and not particularly original.

Basically what C-dawg said. Everyone shits themselves over the song and honestly it's not that great. It's awkward, long, drawn out and its melody is rather generic. What do the lyrics even mean?

Old toys

This plastic heart

Loners and fools

Are tearing me apart

Bad luck

Bitters and soda

Anguish and shame

The modern fool

Bad sex

Buy me a train wreck

Something for my troubled mind

...?

People's reaction to it reminds of me DRB. It's not THAT good, and seems to try a bit hard to be more epic than it should be. I can think of plenty of more emotional, relatable songs with more epic tension or whatever than Brutal Love. Plus, they tried swapping Good Riddance for it as a concert-closer. Um, fuck you. No.

Aww Kerplunk is cool. Warning is the worst, how boring can you get? And what makes it even worse is it's so obvious it should've been the awesome lightning man on there!

Not sure if popular or not but i like Fuck Time.

I know lots of people in this thread don't like it on the trilogy much but in general I'd hope it's popular. It caused a sensation here when they first played it (9 or 10 times) at a Foxboro show, was hugely popular for a long time. I like it on Dos as well, of course it doesn't have the same energy as live but it's still great.
