It's an homage, losers.

But yet if someone say Miley Cyrus did a song that rips off say Hitchin A Ride people would be screaming rip off...

No, just no. Don't poison our minds with such a thought.

The difference being we all know The Kinks had an influence on Green Day, whereas Miley isn't a Green Day fan as far as I know.

I cringe every time Billie randomly makes random grunts and screams.

What do you mean?

Like the YEAHHHH in She.

Or the monster burp in Geek Stink Breath?

Like the YEAHHHH in She.

I know what you mean and I completely agree. Doesn't fit, and sounds lame.

Yeah sure

I know what you mean and I completely agree. Doesn't fit, and sounds lame.

I know right? I'm glad Billie doesn't do it as much anymore.

I know what you mean and I completely agree. Doesn't fit, and sounds lame.

Yeah I never ever tried to do it because I thought it was lame.

OMG how could anyone not like that plaintive yelp in She??? I think it fits perfectly, a little release of frustration. I don't think any of those noises are "random", they appropriately express emotion, add atmosphere or humour or go with the music in a song.

It's an homage, losers.

Precisely. The whole album is full of homages to older songs, they did it openly and I'd say it's a key part of the album.

But yet if someone say Miley Cyrus did a song that rips off say Hitchin A Ride people would be screaming rip off...

Ironically Hitchin A Ride is already a rip off of Stray Cat Strut by the Stray Cats.

To be honest, Warning/Picture Book isn't exactly an original riff, just up and down the A scale. It's probably been done many times before and since.

You guys use the term "ripoff" any time a song has the same chord progression lol.

Hey I mean Green Day could just go around and add a little slice of dance music to a bunch of otherwise solid songs and then call it their own.

cough Avicii cough.

That to me is ripping off. Not what GD does.

I live in the U.S., but you have to admit, all Green Day fans are jealous of those who live in the bay area

Of course, those are Extra-Lucky hahhaha

Um, I live in the U.S., and I'm nearly 5 years older than you, and I just saw them live for the first time this past year... just because we live somewhere doesn't mean we're automatically capable of seeing them, nor does it mean we aren't able to complain about that. The U.S. is a big place, and there are plenty of areas in it that they don't hit. They haven't been to Ohio in 10 years and it's one of the most populated states. I can imagine there are plenty of other areas that haven't ever seen them...

I'm understand and I think you're completely right.. I know the USA is a big place.. I supposed there are states that Green Day almost never go, obviously.

But also you have to understand that thanks you are just living in the USA you have like an advantage to those who live here in South America or Asia.

I see them once, here in Venezuela.. But that dream of see them again here is almost impossible.. If you sometimes get out of your USA's bubble, you can see Venezuela is passing through a BIG crisis.. No one will come to do a show here, at least not in the next 5 years..

However, is true you can also barely see them, but you can take a plane or something and go to a near state where they are giving a gig.. You have a chance at least..

Here in Venezuela (for example) its almost impossible to find "plane tickets" to go to the USA or Europe and If you find some, are ridiculously expensive. And also you have to find a "USA's Visa" who aren't like in others countries.. You have to pass through a fucking Odisea to get one.

I know those are different countries and different problems, but think about this.. I understand your point, can you understand mine?

Yes, I understand. All I was trying to say is I think people who have never been to the U.S. have a warped view of what it's actually like. And getting a plane ticket does cost money, which many people don't have access to, even living in the "USA bubble." I've never been on a plane in my life, actually.

By definition that what it is...

If Ray Davies was the type to sue he could have easily won the case... But since he doesn't believe in that but still...

I think really it's only a "rip off" if they copy something and try to pass it off as totally their own/wouldn't admit to it. Then there's sampling where they copy and give credit (as on Brutal Love), and paying homage where they deliberately and openly make it sound similar as a tribute and compliment to the song/artist (as they do may times on Warning, for example the verses of Waiting sound just like Downtown and Billie even sings the word "downtown" to acknowledge it), and just coincidences where it happens to be the same chords or have some other small similarity just by chance. I don't think Green Day's really ever done anything that fits into that first "rip off" category, only the other stuff and there's nothing wrong with any of that.

I think Hermione just won this argument.

I dunno, the American Idiot riff sounds like a pretty shameless ripoff to me, but beyond that I can't argue with any of what Hermione said!
