You're welcome *pats head*

But seriously, the Ramones sound nothing like Green Day, what crack pipe were you smoking?

Marky Ramone also said that, just saying.

I just laughed and sprayed ginger ale everywhere, thank you.

You would drink ginger ale.

Even Marky Ramone said Green Day sounds just like the Ramones.

I see that many have formed their own 'favourite' playlist from the trilogy, songs they liked the most. I see this as the achievement for Green Day. All these lists are so unique. There was this giant pool of songs available to everyone so there was something or the other for every type of listener.

Yeah it's funny, I'd probably lump Green Day into the same bracket as bands who are far more technically advanced (like the Foo Fighters, but forgive me if that's wrong as I'm not a big fan). I can't take the other pop-punk bands around them seriously enough to consider them equals in terms of style.

Foo Fighters are about as technically advanced as Bon Jovi

Actually, a lot of pop-punk bands are technically much better musicians than GD. Sum 41 have a lot of thrash metal elements in their sound, and bands like NFG etc. often bring alt-rock elements to theirs. Even Blink have some insane drumwork in the mix and their self-titled is pretty close to a pop-punk prog album.

Whereas Green Day have pretty much been doing the same thing for 25 years :P

I can't stand Let Yourself Go. The song is just way too repetitive when they use "Let Yourself Go" 5,000 times in a single song. Just..no. Same with the other songs that show other repetitiveness, as well as those that lack a creative definition in terms of how their lyrics are worded. Some of it, I feel is just too simplistic and feels like they've held no effort in writing certain lyrics, while there was some basis for excitement for what they were writing, they certainly disappointed in various aspects. Although, some of their other songs more than make up for that based on how their music flows and successfully grasps their concept, leaving it open to an alternation of classic Green Day.

My favorite songs from the trilogy though:

Nuclear Family

Amy

Wow, that's loud (Although it may sound a bit too overplayed to me)

Stay the night

Stray heart

I don't know how many that is cause I can't be bothered to count the total amount I've listed.

This. Chad Gilbert is a pretty damn awesome rhythm guitarist, and when Sum 41 still had Dave their guitar work was in a different league to Green Day. Even Blink have been more edgy and creative than Green Day for their last two albums.

I guess its been long enough since the initial euphoria of the trilogy to make a fair list of all my favourites. Here goes:

Nuclear Family

Stay the Night

Carpe Diem

Angel Blue

Oh Love

Stop When the Red Lights Flash

Stray Heart

Baby Eyes

Lady Cobra

Wow! That's loud

Brutal Love

Missing You

8th Avenue Serenade

X-Kid

Dirty Rotten Bastards

99 Revolutions

Come to think of it, that's actually quite a lot. They could have made an album the length of 21st Century Breakdown that was just as good, if not better IMO.

I mean he said Green Day sounds like the Ramones. Gosh

OH MY GOD YOU MYSOGINISTIC ASSHOLE JESUS CHRIST HOW DARE YOU SAY SUCH A THING ABOUT ME.

:P

What does that have to do with your gender?

Yeah I was going to say Sum 41 doesn't get enough credit for some of their music.

I also agree that Blink-182's music is far more complex in recent years. Their last album was horrible though, but still complex.

I tried to make a list of my 13 favorite trilogy songs:

Lazy Bones

Lazy Bones

Lazy Bones

Lazy Bones

Lazy Bones

Lazy Bones

Lazy Bones

Lazy Bones

Lazy Bones

Lazy Bones

Lazy Bones

Lazy Bones

Lazy Bones

In all seriousness though i don't listen to green day that much anymore but there are always times i put Insomniac or American Idiot or Nimrod front to back but never listen to a trilogy song if it comes on shuffle.Oh except from Lazy Bones :P

But Sum 41 is fucking terrible so who cares

:D

All joking and (not joking) Trilogy bashing aside, can someone please explain the appeal of Lazy Bones to me? I just don't get it.

I think it has a raw, honest emotion not seen elsewhere in the trilogy. People connect with it.

They really have, though. The production's certainly improved, but with very rare exceptions their songs have always been 4/4 time, 3-4 chord pieces with special attention to melodies. If anything, they've begun regressing rather than changing for the positiveMike's bass has been practically nonexistent since Warning, and Billie's begun recycling chord progressions rather alarmingly frequently.

Baby Eyes has like SEVEN chords

:ninja:

I will say it feels like GD restricted themselves on the trilogy. Instead of letting the songs flow naturally, it feels like they thought, no the songs need to be simple and kept with this old school mindset using and only playing like three chords on different tracks. The majority of the tracks come across as forced because of his. Yes a lot of their earlier work has basic structures and chords but it felt very pure and natural, this is probably why the trilogy didn't work as well. However tracks like Stay the night and Missing you are great examples of a natural yet basic sounding songs.

Hah, I think the opposite. :) For me, it is as though they played and wrote the first things that popped into their heads, and released that material without much editing. (Not in terms of production, mind you.)

Well I do agree, a lot of the songs feel like they need a lot more too them. For example Stop when the red lights flash could have had a brilliant bridge section like it does live, but it doesn't really go anywhere and just goes back into the chorus bit. Obviously some of the lyrics needed a bit more tweaking too.

I wasn't bashing, I was just disagreeing and saying why!

Well that's no explanation, that's just describing the structure of the song and putting words such as "great" before mentioning any specific element :P

Yep, and all specific elements are great, so it's a pretty accurate explanation :P

Saying something is great isn't a convincing argument (see all the arguments that talk about how great God is :P ).
