Billie Joe hates his fans!!! :P

That's the only logical explanation for his inflicting the Trilogy on us. :P

I actually really like the in-your-face neon theme of the Trilogy artwork—it's just the crappy Instagram photos that ruin it for me.

I don't know, man, it just really fucking depresses me. Just looking at the Trilogy artwork and forgetting what it's attached to, it looks like so much fucking fun. I just really wish that they'd pared it down to a double album, really fucking focused on getting the lyrics perfect and livening up the arrangements/dynamics, worked with Vig again instead of Cavallo, and actually had the balls to record it live with dirty guitar tone. I'm just picturing the vibe of Exile on Main St. with Green Day doing it and oh my shit that could have been the best thing ever. That, in the end, is why I so despise the Trilogy—not the poor quality (though it does suck balls) but because it was such a disappointing delivery on what was promised.

I feel the same way about the neon theme. I love bright colors, and I was so excited about the possibility of bright-themed merch. But then I see the end product and I'm just like... eh, meh. The Instagram photos kind of suck (especially Tré's, BJ and Mike I can deal with) and I just cannot handle the cheesy skull stuff on everything... I'm just not the type of person who is going to wear skull merch, and they put it or the Instagram photos on, like, everything. :P

I might even be able to handle the skulls if the albums were any good, but as is I'd be embarrassed to wear any Trilogy merch out in public due to its promoting albums that are shit (which is why when a well-meaning friend bought me a Trilogy shirt for Christmas—well, not bought, stole from Hot Topic :P —I was relieved that it was inadvertently a woman's shirt and thus didn't fit me).

I just got a T-shirt at the show I went to, since not getting a shirt was basically not an option.

I'm so sorry. :(

If it makes you feel better, I was 22 and that was my first show... So you'll probably end up at your first show sooner than I did!

I first saw them when I was 13 :ga:

But yeah, the merch was crap. I hated how they tried to sell them in a box set with the CDs too, it just seemed like such a crap idea.

Silence, Tomnomnom.

Honestly, the box sets were pretty cool. I loved the lyric booklets, and it really wasn't a bad deal, because if the tour would have been a typical tour length the Idiot Nation membership would have been worth it for early access to tickets. It's a shame the Tré booklet was rushed to print and didn't have any of the cool quotes and sayings drawn into it. Kind of ruined it for me. And I lost one of my "X" buttons that came with it, when I had it on my purse. :(

Not sure if this is an unpopular opinion (I should hope it isnt) but it seems that when you are a huge fan but have not yet seen them live, everyone makes their show to out to be this AMAZING thing. Everyone just can't shut up about how AWESOME it is and it just drives you nuts because you want to see them so bad. You've seen the live footage, you've heard all of the songs a billion times, all you want to do is see them live. Then you actually see them live, and it exceeds all expectations. It is even better than anyone could have possibly put into words.

You were 21, you lying sack of shit!

But as for the merch, maybe they won't put out misspelled shit next time around, like your shirt  that was so cringe-worthy to me.

My favourite misspelled shirt story was when I went to see Manic Street Preachers on their Send Away The Tigers tour. A guy on the street after the gig was selling Send Away The Lions merch.

I love my black trilogy tour shirt. Its a slim fit with a skull & small writing of uno, dos, tre - & I am not just saying that because I am a trilogy lover - what I didn't appreciate was the $50 it set me back.

The Trilogy merch was a bit shit (so, basically it accurately represented the Trilogy).

But I wonder.... was the cheap production/etc., necessary to help recoup the band's losses from the 21CBD tour?

Did the 21CBD tour lose money?

I have an opinion about the Trilogy:

When I first heard the Trilogy, i thought it was the greatest thing they've ever done. But now when i look back, and listen to stuff like "Makeout Party" or "Troublemaker", i keep saying that "this isn't the Green Day that i know".. because for the past 4 years all i ever listened to was stuff like 21st Century Breakdown, American Idiot or 39/Smooth and Nimrod (to name a few albums).

To be honest, i'm slightly in the middle with the Trilogy now. I like most of the songs, but stuff like "Fuck Time", "Troublemaker", "Oh Love", "Makeout Party", or "Kill The DJ" it just doesn't appeal to me that much and i tend to listen to them less only because i don't like them that much.

But i have fallen in love with Tre more now, I believe they did it right on that one. Just for Uno and Dos, I just felt that they were trying too hard... but that's just how i feel about it

Oh, and I thought it was bad that the bootleggers outside 99 Revs were still calling it the Uno, Dos, Tre Tour  (but really, the white shirt from the 99 Revs Tour spelled Uncasville, Connecticut wrong. I fucking cringed and iirc it was the only shirt left in Alissa's size so she was stuck with that one).

And the prices were RIDIC. I know that merch, particularly merch sold at concerts, is expensive, but $40 was a new low (or high) for taking advantage of sentimental fans, especially when there were so many official shirts being sold at places like Hot Topic, Walmart, etc.

may as well have just bought the official merch for that price tbh.

Speaking of merch, my new strategy is to go to a few concerts on the tour and not care about barrier at one of them so I can leave during part of the show and go get merch without having to struggle with waiting in line.

Oh, no, I'm saying that that was the price for official merch, and it was the official shirt that nobody at Bravado or wherever proofread the cities for (but I didn't make that clear)!

Merch-buying is SUCH a crapshoot. Like you said, lines can be killer and impossible, especially if you're in a hurry before or after the concert (as I often am when I'm getting a ride). Since I'm big, my size is either the first one to sell out before a show, or, it's the only thing left after the show

I guess that's a general problem, not a Green Day problem, but the prices are still something that, again, are really kind of insane.

I think they did lose money on the Breakdown tour, partly due to the high costs of the pyro etc.

As for the Trilogy, I loved it when I first heard it. I think that was something to do with the fact that it was new music, and because I was so excited, I couldn't make a proper, unbiased judgement on it. I then started posting more regularly on here and at first, I would get annoyed at people who hated on the Trilogy. Eventually though, I came to agree with most of what they said, and now consider myself a loyal Trilogy basher :P But as much as I dislike most of the songs, they do still hold a certain sense of nostalgia for the time when I blindly loved them.

Yeah, this is pretty much how I feel about the Trilogy. I did enjoy listening to Uno a lot in October 2012 and I miss when I thought Tre was God's gift to us all. Now I'm just realizing that while most of it is listenable, listenable doesn't mean something I get urges to listen to more than when it comes up on shuffle.

They better come to Minnesota next time, then. And Billie had better have his voice and his setlists back in order, God damn it.

Damn, Reading 2004 was something special.

one question I have about Reading 2004 was how the hell did some people know the words to American Idiot already? Reading was 2 days before AI was released as a single if I'm not mistaken.

Neither really matter when you're there though, it's just good to whine about later :P

It had pretty heavy promotion before the single was released. It'd been on the radio a lot and the video was on Kerrang every five minutes throughout August.

I still think Basket Case from Reading '04 is one of the best performances of an individual song in Green Day's career
