For those of you that don't know Trouble was Billlie's girlfriend 

I saw an interview on youtube and Billie said he had a gf nicknamed Trouble. I think he said her name was Erica.

Yes her name is  Erica Paleno (nicknamed Trouble) and he said it was the longest relationship he had been in and it lasted a year and a half. Here is the interview if you are interested  Some factoids:  the couple met in Gilman and Billie left home and moved into a warehouse (which inspired songs like Welcome To Paradise) soon after and described Erica as his first serious relationship. Erica is often mentioned in books about the band as having inspired many of their early songs such as Christie Road and she was interviewed for the book Nobody Likes You. If you are wondering...yes I did just flip to the back of one of these books and scan for her name in the index

So here is my theory and I may be wrong but here it goes; I think that all the songs written about and for "Amanda" are really about Erica and he still has feelings for her.  Yes, I went there! Scandalous!

Nah that's another girl (I assume Amanda is her real name since that's what he's said) who he went out with for about a year while writing Dookie, the one who went away to study in Ecuador when they broke up who he's said he wrote Amanda, Good Riddance, Whatsername, She, Sassafras Roots and several other songs about, the "one who got away". Erica was earlier.

I don't think that's the same person. Her name is not Erika/Erica PELINO it is Erica (also known as Arica) PALENO. Two different names.  The Erica we are talking about is still very good friends with Billie and remains involved with Gilman Street according to herself in the interview she gave in Nobody Likes You. In that book (and others) she was described as Billie's first muse and explained how he wrote Christie Road for her because they (Billie and her) used to sneak away there to watch trains. Spitz (the writer) stated that Erica was Sweet Children's first fan and many of the songs on their records are about her. 

 

Oh and to clear up confusion Erica began dating Billie when they were 16. They were still dating after he met 80 (and wrote the song 80..). After they broke up (in 1991) he dated Amanda (Erica used the name Amanda in her interviews so I believe the name is not invented by Billie) who was a "militant punk" who wrote her own fanzine and basically embodied punk and rebellion. She dumped him, broke his heart and he is still lamenting it   Amanda as we all know inspired pretty much the majority of Green Day songs including basically the American Idiot album...well Whatsername and all that jazz etc (thank you Amanda you beautiful person ) Phew. 

 

Have I invaded privacy enough for one day? ?  Oh how about one more picture of Billie and Erica from prom. It's OK, not private it's all over the Internet since before the internet existed

The Arica Pelino credited in the book you listed is listed for doing research, archives and photography. She isn't listed as having had any relationship whatsoever with Billie. Spitz book Nobody Likes You literally interviews her and he isn't going to get the spelling of her name wrong. There may be more than one girl named Erica but Pelino and PALENO are different names. I can't see why she would change the spelling of her last name. Anyway it doesn't actually matter 

 

I'm just amazed how much Erica looks like Britt in that picture with Billie

All of this is very interesting! Thanks for sharing. Do you mean that Erica Paleno talked about Amanda in her interviews? 

I'm not sure we can know for sure who is who, as people often spell other people's name wrong (just take Billy Joe/Joel as an example, and he's wideley known). In this post you are talking about Billie's ex-girlfirend all the time, differenciating her from Mike Pelino's sister, right? But that girl in the photo with Mike Pelino looks a lot like the Trouble girl in the photo with Billie! So I'd bet they're the same person, it makes sense if Billie is still in touch with the girl that he got her brother to tour with them, too.

Anyway to answer both questions above- yes Erica talked about Amanda in her interview. She stated (among other things) that after she and Billie split up he dated Amanda some time later (as in she was his next serious girlfriend). She talked quite a bit about Amanda. I was surprised that he had been in a relationship with Erica when he met 80 and then went on to meet and have a serious relationship with Amanda after that. So in short no...Erica is not Amanda lol. Billie had many girlfriends I'm sure. The ones named here are just the major or long-term relationships that end up in books and the likes. I mean Erica and Amanda both inspired many songs and Erica has the honour of being known as the first Green Day fan. Pretty damn cool ?

Just to reply to this I don't see any problem with anything you've posted, it's all stuff Billie and the other people have discussed publicly and it's relevant and interesting in relation to songs.

 

I enjoy Mike's enjoyment of fan art. And right on Billie, I wonder what kind of songs he's coming up with if he's writing at the moment!

I thought that Amanda was Erica, and that Amanda was just a fake name Billie used. I read Nobody Likes You twice, but it ha been a while. Do you know what page her interview is on? I'd like to take a look at it again. I thought 89-91 was Erica and then Billie was with Adrienne after that? Cause it is surprising that Billie would have a relationship with Amanda after he met Adrienne and wrote 80 about her . We need to make a timeline!!
