Like, that is literally all I needed to read. Ever. I felt so selfish thinking "he didn't even thank the fans during his speech," because he was obviously super nervous and overwhelmed. But God, I just read this and now I'm sobbing in the work bathroom. He shattered my heart with this post. It's so perfectly written. <3

I was thinking the same way that you were. I was a bit sad that he didn't mention the fans in his speech but at the same time I understand that he was so fucking nervous and overwhelmed and he just kind forgot. This is absolutely beautiful! I fucking love this man, I fucking love this band!!!

I wish I had a way to contact the lady who asked me "Why do you love this band so much?" at the induction ceremony. I'd send her a screenshot of this Instagram post.

I watched Billie's speech 100 times and didn't realize he didn't thank the fans. Probably because I put his own talent above my own contribution to Green Day  Like, I know no musicians would be anywhere without their fans, but it's hard for me to count myself as a reason they're in the Hall of Fame  Thanks Billie!

He randomly posts these things on Instagram that make me bawl my eyes out while I'm trying to go about my life, lol. He always writes so beautifully and in such a heartfelt way.

Everything he said in that post was just... perfect. "For me to try to put it into words almost feels awkward." The feelings are mutual, Billie.

I agree with him on the word "fan", as it can be...truly tacky sometimes, especially when it comes to musicians who are sensitive and handle things with their heart.

And having truly grown up with Green Day and going from a 12-year-old kid who could fit straws in place where the last baby teeth used to be to a 32-year-old person who makes her own decisions, works as she pleases and so on; I...sort of shivered now. Goosebumps.

If you think about it, the band has always treated the fans like family. They have posted photos of their homes, vacations their lives. How many times has Billie posted baby pictures on tbt. I think that is part of the reason we are so invested for so long. It's not just the music, they have made us part of their lives.

Green Day has been a part of my life for only half the time they've been in yours, but I feel the same way. I think back on the last 10 years — how much I've changed and grown up, and all of the things I feel like I've gone through with them, and I'm really at a loss for words. It's like this weird little montage plays in my mind. I won't lie – I don't think it's necessarily "easy" to stick by one band's side for years. Because we're all always changing and shifting, and not necessarily in the same ways. It's one thing to love a movie – its script will never change. Loving a band is something completely different, because you've buckled up for a ride in which you have no idea where you're headed next. It's more like an actual relationship than one could ever really get being a fan of a film or even an actor, because it's just all so... real.

But I read things like his post, and it comes into very clear focus why I've stuck around for a decade. Because there is something about this band – even when I'm frustrated with them or taking a break from them, that just fits in my heart. It's a bizarre thing to describe, but there is a very specific feeling I get when I get to see Green Day perform live that I don't get any other time. They could just be good musicians, and I'd like the band as much as any other one on my iPod. But the fact that I love a band who appreciates and respects us, a band made up of incredibly kind, funny, talented people – that is what sets them apart.

Such a touching thing to read. I love this band, and I literally owe them my life. They gave me something to look forward to when my world came crashing down. American Idiot, and the fact that I had a concert to look forward to was the only thing that kept me alive. I am forever grateful to this band.

I just read what Billie wrote to fans and this is the nicest thing ever <3 I'm new to the GDC but I'm a Green Day fan for a loooong time and I feel moved. I'm so proud of this guys! :)

Oh man Bille what a sweetheart. That made me tear up. And I have grown up with these guys. 2004 when I was 13/14 years old and discovered these guys with the American Idiot video. The rest is history as they say. I love them and its just heartwarming to see Billie post something like this.

Also #MikeforPresident ;)
