Not sure exactly what you're asking but this was the OG setlist for Dreamforce that showcases 21st Century Breakdown being played before.. She? Interesting choice.

That set list is epic.  I wonder if the band thinks the inclusion of more 21st Century Breakdown songs in their set lists will curse the shows now, considering what happened to the sound system at this one.  What a shame 😢.  21ST CENTURY BREAKDOWN SQUAD RISE UP

Is it too early to think where the band goes from here? Saviors is that return to form record they needed but moving forward now what?

I liked Billie mentioning post punk as a potential direction when thinking about Saviors. It was actually something I wanted to see in the early days of our speculation about 1972.

Saviors somewhat gives me some interesting Warning vibes in the second half of the record and I wouldn’t mind them going more acoustic oriented again.

Saviors strayed from themes and concepts but they could essentially go down that road again. I think for it to be successful they would need a shorter and more focused tracklist. Would love a longer song again as well. People miss those deep and heavy GD lyrics from before the trilogy.

I'm still glad some others from the deepcutology were played: Wild One (played 5 times), Angel Blue (played twice), Peacemaker (played 6 times), Before the Lobotomy (played 71 times)

To add my previous post here, I forgot to mention that I’d also be ok with them going down the Beatles-esque rabbit hole.

Billie has proven to be a great songwriter in that style on numerous occasions whether it’s the takes on AI and 21cb or writing for These Paper Bullets or The Longshot. I’d love to see them work with Jeff Lynne and make something grandiose but market it in a similar way to Saviors. With Foamf they weren’t the most humble and they fell hard once the music was out. With Saviors they were confidently quiet and let the music do the talking.

If they don’t go down that road then they need to stay with Rob Cavallo.

Wild one is such a great song that should’ve been played more.

Angel blue too, I feel like it should've been a single.

I’ll take Jeff Lynne and I’ll take Butch Vig again. I’d love to even see Brett Gurewitz. They missed the boat when they didn’t hire Brett for Rev Rad.

They should never make an album with Butch Walker again and no more self producing.

A lot of the trilogy songs are not actually bad songs from a composition stand point. I think the biggest critique from this view would be the lyrics on some tracks.

Something got lost in the recording process and no it’s not as simple as guitar sounds. A level of energy did not get captured on tracks like 99 revolutions and Stay The Night. This becomes more apparent if you watch HQ live videos of these songs from that era.

If some of these better tracks were recorded during C&V and AI sessions there would be a completely different narrative.

I agree that they were not able to capture the energy that their live performances had for a lot of these tracks.  I remember watching videos from their Echoplex show and thinking Kill the DJ and Wild One sounded absolutely fantastic, but was slightly let down when the studio versions came out.  Since then, I’ve actually come to enjoy the studio versions a lot more, taking them for what they are rather than the impression of what I thought they would’ve sounded like based on that show.

I actually believe the production of the trilogy fit a lot of the songs better than the “American Idiot” sound would’ve.  When they released the OTIS remixes of Lazy Bones, Wild One, and Oh Love, I thought those were songs that actually benefited from the cleaner guitar sound and was surprised they chose to revamp those in particular.

Due to recent claims such as ''Saviors is the first album since 90s where Mike really gets to shine'' or ''finally Mike plays something different than rhythm on Saviors'', here are 10 songs where Mike Dirnt gets to shine with his unique and strong bass lines across Trilogy albums. I can always understand if Trilogy songs aren't for you, but constant Trilogy slander is tiresome, especially when it's about highlighting someones insanely good work on those records. Whole point of cleaner guitars on Trilogy records was to give more room to bass and drums, so those songs will have naturally many interesting bass lines going on. That also means bass can be heard loudly in mix, so if you're really fan of him and want to listen his bass work, listen Trilogy instrumentals. That's also why I didn't just include every single song where you can hear bass, because you can hear it on every single song.

1. Nuclear Family (pre-solo)
2. Stay the Night (pre-solo and post-solo bass lick)
3. Kill the DJ (post-solo, but whole song is groovy on bass)
4. Makeout Party (bass solo)
5. Stray Heart (bass intro)
6. Baby Eyes (Demolicious bass intro only)
7. Nightlife (whole song)
8. Missing You (post-solo)
9. Sex, Drugs and Violence (bass break)
10. Dirty Rotten Bastards (Hardest bass solo Mike Dirnt ever wrote)

Shoutout to Let Yourself Go, Loss of Control, Stop When the Red Lights Flash, Lazy Bones and Lady Cobra where bass presence is ridiculously loud and clear. Even when he only plays rhythm in these songs, god does it sound fantastic.

Then again, I've never met the man in person.

Basketcase currently has 984M listens on Spotify, with 689,000 plays yesterday.  What day do we think it's going to cross the 1 billion mark?  I'm going with February 26.

Still quite a way off from 1B but I think it’s gone up a lot recently, the anniversary should boost it.

That's so funny. I would never consider Billie having BDE. He just seems like a goofball to me.

I suspect that’s more “celebrity walking through public area, I’m busy, leave me alone” swagger than anything else.

Dang I haven’t heard them play Dilemma yet!  Im gonna listen more in the car now lol.  Something about hearing it on the radio and knowing others are listening to it too makes it sound better.
