Usually around now with the shitty weather and the lack of holidays, my SAD kicks in bad. But Green Day has given me something to look forward to and we keep getting blessed with new pictures and interviews from this era. It's so nice. On top of that, I've been having so much fun on the thread. I'm always lurking on GDC, but the surge of activity had been keeping me sane, especially at work. Whenever I need a break from angry emails or managing someone's calendar, I just come to GDC for more Saviors discourse. And it's a nice change of pace. The forum was so divided on FOAM and seeing the barrage of negative opinions kind of brought everything down. It's been so nice reading everyone's thoughts on the album and just the general excitement that's in the air. The boys are truly back. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such an overwhelmingly positive response to one of their albums since I joined GDC in 2010. No matter the fandom, people get nitpicky and fight because you’re just so deep into whatever the thing is you’re a fan of. It’s easier to be critical and easier to take stuff for granted. This period has been SO happy and Saviors seems like something most fans agree they love, which is awesome. The vibes around the band are also a complete opposite of the FOAM vibes, which I personally very badly needed. This entire era has been wonderful. I feel like I stepped into an alternate universe of what I wanted the era post-RevRad to feel like. I took the longest break I ever had from Green Day over the past few years and it was shitty. I missed this so much. And started doing crazy (but good!) shit like “MAYBE ILL READ 52 BOOKS A YEAR” to try to fill the endless void they leave when they’re not in my life lol. (It didn’t work. I think I was really sad the past few years when I think about myself then vs now.) 4
Popular Post pacejunkie punk
I've been focusing much more of the last few years on side projects rather than any new Green Day material. Since 2017 it's been The Longshot, Coverups, The Network and dipping back into Pinhead Gunpowder and Foxboro HT. So while there's been plenty to listen to, there was definitely a lack of excitement over actual Green Day music. This hits different and it's a joy to not only have this music now but to see the response out in the wild too. I've been tuning out the crap like Fantano and Pitchfork. I only want to soak in the positive energy right now.
Popular Post Robbie1039
The release of Saviors really got me at the height of my fandom for this band again and I am THIS CLOSE to just snapping and buying everything I want in the GD store. This includes Saviors on vinyl, the Dookie anniversary pack (probably on cd), the Insomnac anniversary vinyl, and the Nimrod anniversary pack (probably cd version too). I’m sure they’re going to release something to celebrate the 20th anniversary of American Idiot too!!! I need to start picking up some overtime at my job or something in order to justify these purchases because I feel like I’m about to splurge big time. And it shall be glorious 😎
Cali89
Got the People magazine today just for Billie's article. Can't remember the last time I bought a magazine, this was worth it 3

Popular Post Slave To The Network
Whatever happened to the love for 21CB? It's the 15th anniversary of that album this year too. I get that Dookie and AI are taking the spotlight because they are the most influential album's and they are more impactful anniversaries, but it makes me sad that 21CB is getting left in the dust. Honestly, I would much prefer hearing 21CB and AI in full rather than Dookie. Or even Insomniac. Dookie has never really been that high up on my list of favorites and that's probably unusual, but that's how I feel. It's depressing that there isn't really a chance of hearing 21CB in full again until like 2029. I wish they could celebrate it this year. I'm so happy that I will get to hear AI live in its entirety, but 21CB is so special to me because it's the album that got me into Green Day in the first place. AI and 21CB together would be a real monster of a show. I'm not sure if the boys would be able to pull that off without completely exhausting themselves every night. Dookie's a pretty short album, but 21CB is up there in length with AI. That would be my dream concert, though.
The 99th revolution
IIRC, Billie confirmed he doesn't like playing 21CB songs because it reminds him of the stressful times during recording or smth
Slave To The Network
I wonder if, now that he's in a pretty good head space (or it appears so), his feelings would change on that matter. Maybe he'd really enjoy playing those songs live again if he approached it from a better place. Or maybe not. Who am I to say? I hope he changes his feelings about that, though. He worked so, so hard on that album and I would argue it's second only to AI. It's a shame that he associates the record with all of the stress and personal hardship he went through more intensely than the pride in having created something so wonderful. But I get it if it's really difficult for him to unlink that in his mind. A lot of the times it feels like no matter what we'd prefer to do, our brains have other ideas and won't listen to reason.

It is important to note that it's not only Billie Joe who feels this way. Mike has said it on more recent interview (Rolling Stones or some other one) that 21st Century Breakdown was a miserable record to write and I do remember clearly how Billie acted during that tour. 2010 was not too kind for that man and his anti-technology (or anti-Steve Jobs) rant during American Idiot was just pinnacle of his meltdowns during that tour. He even threw guitar once at Tre because of how pissed off he was. I fully understand why re-living all of that is hard. Not only it was ridiculously difficult record to write but all the shit that happened during it..

Popular Post solongfromthestars
I'm going through all the Green Day stuff I've saved over the years for the GDA Tumblr and I found this – a screenshot of the booking screen for tickets to the American Idiot musical on Broadway. Random but there probably aren't any other screenshots of it floating around now. That was the first time I saw the musical and I still get the warm fuzzies thinking about it. 5
Popular Post Miko
I watched MSG @ 2009 performance today and jesus christ how ridiculously fucking beautiful moment it was when Billie took a fan from audience during Are We the Waiting and just constatly hugged her. Fan was crying her eyes out. It was truly one of the best fan interactions I've ever seen.

Maybe it's been enough time to recover somewhat from the trauma of that record to perform it. I noticed they added 21 Guns back to the setlist after like 10 years or so without it during Hella Mega, and KYE has been a staple. Maybe it's going to be baby steps with this one. I'm okay with however they need to approach this to be comfortable with it. I just hope it's sooner rather than later because I love this album so much.

More I think about it, less I think it's truly that hard to play some 21CB songs during shows. Know Your Enemy is of course the only song from 21CB to be played on every tour. 21 Guns was played occasionally during Revolution Radio Tour as part of acoustic encore and Murder City has been played sometimes aswell. Before the Lobotomy and Peacemaker made one-off return in 2013 in that disaster of a show that is called Dreamforce where PA system was blown out due to rain. In that same show 21st Century Breakdown was supposed to be brought back aswell. East Jesus Nowhere was part of their Australia tour in 2014, but is otherwise forgotten. Other songs to my knowledge have been completely abandoned. Makes you wonder if in 2013 The Boys just decided to man up and play some of the songs from the record, but due to how disastrous that show was, they decided to bury the record again in to the sand. I think it's just a coincidence, but it would line up perfectly with their mixed thoughts regarding 21CB and seeing it as a sign that you know what, fuck this record. I truly doubt we'll hear any of the forgotten songs again. 21st Century Breakdown, The Static Age and American Eulogy were all 21CB Tour staples but haven't been played even once since that tour. I'll give it fat zero chance that we'll ever hear Viva La Gloria (either song) or other deep cuts again. Shame. It's a beautiful record. 1

You forgot about Last Night on Earth, which they busted out at the Spark Arena 2017 for Billie's mom, and then at two 2023 club shows. Viva la Gloria! was also played at Dreamforce, but only as a sound check.

Viva La Gloria was played at Dreamforce soundcheck aswell? That's wild. They really loved 21CB specifically for that show.

They also did Before the Lobotomy, Peacemaker and Wild One, most likely to memorize for their performance. But if that is the case, did they slate the title track of 21CB from the setlist before the soundcheck?

Not sure exactly what you're asking but this was the OG setlist for Dreamforce that showcases 21st Century Breakdown being played before.. She? Interesting choice. Ah, I understand now. I would theorize that they had fun during soundcheck and decided to throw 21st Century Breakdown to setlist without soundchecking it. After all, it's arguably records most epic song.
