Random Green Day Thoughts

Recommended Posts

Today my coworker was telling me about a photo her friend shared with her of Billie and was trying to find it on her phone, then said "Oh, I think it was on his Instagram." and I was like "Oh! Yes, I know the one. I hate it so much! It's the worst! " Then we were laughing about it and how he hopefully won't make it his profile pic like he usually does with stupid shit like that. I also told her about the recent (and cute, normal looking) Billie sighting at an airport and how he was super sweet to the person as always. It's nice to have someone at work to talk with about these things.

Also today, I saw "BJ" spray-painted on a post in a parking lot while I was on break and of course the first thing I thought of was Billie.

So I was showing some Green Day videos (among other things) to my students today in class after they handed in their tests (we have spring break next week), and one brought up how his sister acted in American Idiot at another local college a few years ago! Really hoping a local revival comes my way soon.

Anyone else listen to these guys?

They go extremely in depth on every album with a lot of details I've never found on the internet.

Every now and then they make a minor mistake, like thinking Brutal Love was based on Elvis, haha.

But seriously, they go in depth on every album, song by song and it's fantastic!

Are these guys on GDA?

My coworker did lights for a college production of AI and they've worked on a lot of shows, but they said that it was by far their favorite to do. That made me really happy and I told them about when I got to see the original run on Broadway with Billie as St. Jimmy and how unforgettable that was.

So jealous! I would have loved to see this on Broadway with Billie acting.

I quit them after a while because they began to get way too negative after AI period and seemed really uninformed on a lot of things that might have changed their opinions on the music it just started to annoy me after a while. You don’t have to like everything but with regards to the later stuff they didn’t even seem like fans. You need to know your shit to presume to do a podcast on a band. These guys need to do their research before their opinions can carry any weight.  I much preferred The Nimrods podcast.

I will check out the Nimrods. Right now I'm listening to these guys talk about Tre, and they keep talking about how bad the Trilogy is, but they basically love every song from it, haha.

I have 6 gigs in as many weeks this Spring/Summer (1 GD gig) and it is crazy to keep on top of when they were booked (2019 or 2021), where they were booked (Ticketmaster, Gigs & Tours, venue website), and what type of ticket each gig has (postal, print @ home, e-ticket, unknown). You've got to be well organised (and slightly crazy) to go to so many gigs in such a short space of time.

I watched a movie tonight and in one scene a character was saying they can't adopt a dog because look how much they have going on already and they named all the pets they already had as the camera cut between them. One of the pets was a small python named Billie (and I know it was Billie with an "ie" because that's what the CC said).  Thought that was funny.

And, as I have planned, I've gone to Toledo! I've heard Holy Toledo! song right before I knew I had a chance to come here, such a coincidence. The town itself is very beautiful, perfect to listen to Green Day while walking through narrow streets.

I have missed my last bus to Madrid, and I'm not regretting spending the night here! Really worth visiting, if not for Green Day, I probably wouldn't have even come here.

At first I thought you were talking about Toledo, Ohio!  But when you mentioned Madrid I realized my mistake.

But glad you had a good time.

Storm Brulee would be an interesting album title.  Dangerous, yet tasty.

You made me think “sticky” which is Frank Carter And The Rattlesnakes last album, very good, give it a listen.

I've heard that one several times.  Darn good album and I am on the borderline of being a fan.

Green Day used to bring fans on stage kind of whenever, not necessarily just to play guitar or sing. Do we think they'll ever do that again? Like, what's a fan supposed to do if they can't play guitar, but want to get the chance to be pulled on stage? Is that supposed to be a motivator to get people to learn guitar? I would absolutely die to be pulled up and get to hug Billie, but I can't play guitar and I'm sure as hell not going to sing in front of anyone, especially Green Day themselves.

I'll only ever get to hug Billie in my dreams, unless by some ridiculous odds I see him outside of a concert situation (like seriously, how do fans just run into him? That's fucking insane!).

If you do Know Your Enemy, it's only two lines and you don't really have to sing. I used to sing in a choir, but I just screamed those two lines like a strangled cat  I doubt I could've sung anything well on stage with Green Day. Actually, I don't think I've ever heard anyone sing Know Your Enemy particularly well, or at least not noticeably, but then it's such a brief moment that there isn't really any time to notice. Just put your hand up when he asks for someone in Know Your Enemy without thinking about it beforehand and you won't have time to think about it, you'll just do it.

Honestly, I know it’s wonderful but bringing three fans up is too much for me, it takes too long.  I could live without Knowledge and the Kiss cover.  They have such a brilliant, huge back catalogue of their own, I don’t want to hear covers at a show.

I'm torn on the fans because whilst I think just Know Your Enemy would be enough, I feel bad saying that and there are always people who don't get up there themselves, but go crazy for it just because they've never seen or heard about it before. I could definitely live without covers though and saying that is guilt-free :P I feel that way whenever one of my favourite artists plays a cover at a show. I want to hear their stuff, not some other song I wouldn't bother listening to otherwise. Then again, I often see people going insane to Bohemian Rhapsody but standing still through Green Day's set, so I suppose some people really do want to hear covers over original songs.

I think a lot of that is just excitement, I join in before the show and I fucking hate that song.  I’m annoyed at myself afterwards 😁
