Random Green Day Thoughts

Dude, don't feel the need to put up that wall to protect yourself. Don't let other people's opinions make you fear your own.

I wasn't afraid, I just anticipated Trilogy hate and couldn't be bothered to go through another debate.

I have always thought J.A.R was on Nimrod.. but today when I listened to the album in my car the song never showed up. I'm amazed.

Listening to the Having a Blast demo for the first time and those harmonies sound like they're off the Trilogy, and the intro to Pulling Teeth sounds kind of like State of Shock (before you ask, that's a good thing as far as I'm concerned). Also, that version of Welcome to Paradise is great.

EDIT: Not just Welcome to Paradise, I generally love the guitar sound on these demos.

EDIT AGAIN: Why did the end of Basket Case lead into 16, and why didn't they carry on? That sounded really good!

ANOTHER EDIT: The Instrumental one reminds me of another song, but I can't figure out what.

Yeah, that 16 track seemed to cut out, maybe they played it in full afterwards, but cut it off the tape. Maybe one day the full session will surface.

I'm going through the box of Green Day singles in the corner of the room, and I've found a home-made CD with a version of Minnesota Girl that's not live, and another song I don't recognise at all, both of them listed as Untitled New Song. It also has Food Around The Corner/Dominated Love Slave, Why Does It Always Rain On Me, Life During Wartime, some Christmas songs and some other stuff from the 1999/2000 tours. This is a good day.

Sometimes I just think about how powerful and meaningful GD's music is. Their pieces make me feel like no other band or song in the world. They inspire me. And I don't care what anybody else says, they deserve to be as successful as they are today. I am so happy my dad exposed me to their music, because who knows where I would be today without them.

Is it just me or is Billie slightly out of tune on the studio version of Going To Pasalacqua? Might be why I love the AAF version so much more.

I always wished they recorded that song is a more live setting like they did the BBC One Radio recordings. I pick those over the originals every day.

I always thought it was recorded live in the studio anyway? But yeah, there's obviously a different energy in front of an audience and it could have really taken it to the next level. It's still the best song on the album either way.

Are the Radio 1 and BBC recordings in front of an audience? They have a live quality to them but it's pretty controlled.

I don't even know really. Which ones are you referring to specifically?

Ah, those sessions are recorded live in the studio then tidied up and properly produced afterwards, which is why there's a good combination of the band playing live and being polished at the same time.I guess there's more energy because they only have one chance to get it right due to time restrictions rather than taking as long as they like in the studio.

Plus it has the energetic vibe of their live performance since it sort of is live. Honestly, I'd love an album of those kind of quality recordings.

Every time I listen to Demolicious, I remember just how much better the sound is compared to the actual Trilogy.

So do I, but then again I listen to the album versions and think they are cool in their own way. Actually I'm happy to have both the originals and the demos.
