Which covers are you talking about? You've seen him sing FOA live, right? You've heard him try to holler, right? (To be fair, maybe if he wasn't singing falsetto then it wouldn't be so bad) I mean, if he were to really dig deep, and do it right, maybe they could pull it off with Billie singing lead (he did significantly better than usual with Degenerate, so he can improve). Otherwise they'd need Kevin or Mike to sing (or maybe even Jason White). Kevin singing seems like the best choice. I already know he's got some soul.

Of course he screams, but it's when he's not you can hear it. The first cover I thought of was "That Thing You Do!" "That's Rock n Roll" is another great one that highlights his vocals. I can definitely hear some soul and rockabilly in that. It's not far to use FOA as a comparison to his other singing because that's him doing something new with....questionable results. But I've always thought Billie's had a great voice that can be sweet, soulful, and even a bit haunting like on "Macy's Day Parade." It's not always there, but there are certain moments where he's not screaming and shouting that you can really hear what a great voice he has. I know Kevin is my boy, but sorry Kev, I like Billie's voice more.

Wait, are you serious you don’t like Billie’s vocals? It’s fine if you don’t, I’m just surprised because I think he’s great, very distinctive and a great part of GDs success. His FOAM falsettos may not be your thing but he really can scream and growl, and sing with a pure, clear voice, be warm etc. I get that real vocal people think he falls in a slightly unusual place, I think I’ve seen him called a low tenor, but I love his voice and I think he’s used it to great effect in Money Money 2020 part I I. 4

Billie's singing is either really annoying (nasally, whiny, etc), just alright, or very beautiful. I've learned to put up with it, but I don't like it. His falsettos are weak as fuck. Sounds like a pre-pubescent boy trying to sing. Hell, he can hardly keep it in tune. While he can scream, hollering is different than screaming. (If you've ever heard the song "I Feel Good" by James Brown, then you've heard a holler. Sam Smith and Justin Timberlake have got a pretty good holler down too.). Hollerin' has got some soul behind it. Billie's attempted it, but like his falsettos, it's so puny. It's like shooting an arrow and it falls at your feet. Maybe it sucks because it's artificial. Maybe the lack isn't in his ability, but in his execution.

Popular Post Slave To The Network
Falsetto definitely isn't his forte, but no one is good at everything. I think Billie has an outstanding voice and is able to do a hell of a lot with it. He can bring forth raw, unrestrained emotion that many other singers can't imo. He can make it dirty and rough or clean, pure, and beautiful. His voice is certainly very unique in regards to its timbre. Whatever he sings still is very distinctively him, even when he tries to not sound like himself. It's fine if you don't care for it, but I just think he's a lot more skilled and has a lot more depth than you're giving him credit for. Try listening to something like Red Tide by the Foxies. That one gives me chills every time. Roshambo is another one where his voice always leaves me speechless. 7

All I said was that his falsetto's not it, he can't holler, and he doesn't have that much soul. He's a competent singer. I just don't like his voice.

Some songs I listen to so carefully and attentively because of the sound of his voice, the way he sings ❤ (Red Tide and Roshambo are even some of those!) Although with their last record I feel like his voice sounds too "thin," like weak And that wasn't the case in Love Is For Losers. I still like it, but I want him to sing SING 1

I completely understand if you don’t like his voice, I have artists who I feel exactly the same about, just can’t help it nor explain it, I just find it really interesting that you can then like the band, I know I can’t in my case. I think though, you have possibly picked his worst two live vocal performances in his entire career which seems a little harsh. Lots of people don’t like a falsetto, I’m not mad keen on it, but I will always support an artist trying something new and I think he totally nails it on Degenerate.
Popular Post Hermione
I think Billie's voice was the thing that made me get into Green Day. The majority of singers' voices are either annoying or uninteresting, and most singers in GD's genre all have the same affected whiny voice, and that stops me getting into them at the first hurdle. Billie's voice is wonderful to listen to. 10
Popular Post solongfromthestars
Videos don't generally do Billie's voice justice. When we first got videos of the RevRad Tour, everyone was complaining about his voice and before I went to any shows, I did wonder if he was going off a bit. As soon as I heard them soundchecking outside the venue, I knew I was wrong. He sounded so much better in person. I know even people who did go to shows said his heart wasn't in it when he was singing Still Breathing, but I never got that impression. Very occasionally I felt the band (not just Billie) were going through the motions in general but that's because they're human and long tours are hard going. I also only noticed because I went to a lot of shows. It wasn't at all obvious to people who hadn't. As for Father of All, this performance was so good in person (and the soundcheck was even better) that I went from hating the song to really quite liking it. It was one of the highlights of the show for sure. In this case I think he sounds pretty good on the video too. That could be bias because I was there (and I'm in the video so of course I enjoy it ) but it definitely wasn't at the time, since I thought the song was one of the worst things they'd ever done and expected to stand there cringing. Green Day proved me wrong as usual! 4
Popular Post Montclare
For me, Billie's voice is like a shot of dopamine or serotonin. I can come out of a bad meeting, put on GD, and, well, picture a long contented sigh and blood pressure going down. It doesn't matter what song it is. That's why I had such a hard time believing the Viva Death songs were him; I just wasn't getting that same feeling when listening to them. His voice just has an effect on me that no other singer's, even other favorites, does. 5
Guest
Billie's voice is amazing, and I think he has a lot more range than he gets credit for. I agree with what other people have said about how distinctive his voice is; no matter what he is singing, you know it's him when you hear him. OK, some of the FOAM falsetto wasn't my fave and I don't think it's his forte (Fink does it a lot better LOL), but that doesn't make him a bad singer. Slave To The Network
I have Fink's "aw-aw-aw-awoh" from Popper Punk in my head. It really gets me. Also the way he says amyl nitrate nitrite. I would listen to Billie Fink just read a list of chemicals for several hours. 1 1

Falsetto isn't my favorite for Billie but maybe he can take some pointers from Fink. He must've been practicing or something because his vocals on Degenerate are good! Downright delicious. If Billie wants to keep doing falsetto he should squash his beef and ask Fink how he does it. 1
