I dunno if I’d say a massive leap from Kerplunk for me the only difference between Kerplunk and Dookie is the recording quality lyrically and musically they’re on the same level

I wouldn't say it's quite the same level but I do agree Kerplunk and Dookie are similar. Probably more similar than any other two GD albums (not counting the trilogy separately), Welcome to Paradise fits equally well on both for one example. Kerplunk kind of seems like the practice for Dookie . I guess that makes sense if the major label liked Kerplunk and signed them and gave them access to a great studio and then it was time to make another album following on from that.

Mine would probably be Longview, When I Come Around, Panic Song, Hitchin' a Ride and Redundant (also in no particular order)

EDIT: Brain Stew, Burnout and 2000LYA would be Honorable Mentions

Same with Longview and when I come around, king for a day. I can never keep a straight face with that song

For some of them*, I'm partly influenced by the way Billie sings them nowadays (I like it better). So my favorite pre-Warning songs may be The One That I Want (yeah! ), Christie Road*, Basket Case*, She* and Walking Alone. Coming Clean, Armatage Shanks, 86, Panic Song and Scattered being honorable mentions.

Yeah. Looking at it now I realize I should have added Who Wrote Holden Caulfield. Maybe I should do a Top 20 list!

I have no idea why but there's SOMETHING about Church On Sunday i dont like, i guess? Every time i listen to Warning  i get a feeling of "ugh Church on Sunday is next" and i have 0  idea why i always dread it? Its a great song and its catchy and well done there's just SOMETHING about it that makes me not look forward to it and i have 0 idea what it is >.<

Allow me to correct the intro to your essay

You may remember that I have recently made a post pointing out the earth is flat in Green Day lyrics. What's interesting and usual about Billie's imagery of flat earth is the fact that it's possible to walk to its edge, which logically rises the question what is behind the edge amd if the narrator is there to jump over. In FN there's a line about looking over the edge quote! standing on the edge of the world / looking down the edge of the world and the same image is repeated in SB with "as I walked to the ledge walked out on the ledge/are you scared to death to live/I've been running all my life/just to fine the home that's for the reckless restless!". In this essay I will explore how Green Day's flat earth is actually a poetic espression of Kierkegaardian leap of faith.

More seriously, by reading this I just caught another meaning in Forever Now. Thank you :D

Haha thank you for the corrections. I was typing in a hurry and hasn't listened to those songs in a while, so the misquotes were bound to happen. I'm such a bad fan

I'm glad you like my interpretation - it was originally meant to be a shitpost, but the more I think about it, the more I like it. I've been listening to that song for months and kept saying that it's a bit shallow (talking about Still Breathing), but now I had a sudden realization that it's in fact existential. I like to believe that. :P

Just to annoy me my mum one suggested that the chorus means "If I promise to go to church (with you) on Sunday, will you go (to church) with me on Friday night?" as if they both really want to go to church and are just deciding which days to go . This is the only thing that now bothers me about it.

To church on a Friday night? That sounds more like she's a Christian but he wants to go to a synagogue and they decide to practice both faiths

Anyone else ever feel like the pre-chorus of Stay the Night would fit really well into Nuclear Family? Like, not necessarily lyrically, just when I'm singing along to Nuclear Family I always feel like the line after "Ba-baby baby it's a blowout wow yeah" should be "I gotta know if you're the one that got away." Idk, I just feel like it would flow well.

If you're not afraid to see with precision a chewing-gum in Billie's mouth, here's the perfect badass-Billie-chewing-gum video. :toocool: Not even talking about the end how sassy Billie gets rid of his chewing-gum.

I wanted to post this in the fangirls thread first, because of the great quality of the video, and as to illustrate my favorite hair of Billie's, and also because I was delighted to see that chewing-gum so well... but I'm not sure that would be the general reaction!

So what do you think of the chewing-gum the way we see it here? fangirlworthy? cute? funny? disgusting? :D

Funny... and slightly gross at the same time. All I can think about is... somebody is gonna step on that wad of gum and ruin a perfectly good pair of shoes.
