The lyrics are great if you look them up. Trouble is it’s hard to understand what he’s saying on most of the songs so they get lost. I think the lyrics are more appreciated on Nimrod because they’re easier to hear with the cleaner, poppier sound but they’re just as good.

It was my least favorite album when I first became a fan (I was young and dumb) but now it's one of my faves. There are such great songs on it. in my opinion, it's incredibly underrated. Billie Joe's Fender
Insomniac is my favorite Green Day album, it has so many great tracks, both its singles like Geek Stink Breath and deep cuts like Tight Wad Hill are great to listen to. Dookie is great too but you hear those songs all the time and the album sounds very commercial whereas Insomniac takes away some of that that commercial pop sound and gives us more of a punk album while keeping just enough of that poppy sound to make it seem like the sequel to their previous effort as opposed to the band going in a different direction.
gaslight13
Came across this review today that reference's GD. If you don't know who Jeff Rosenstock is he's a REALLY small artist in the punk realm. Anyway, I thought this was quite the bold jab: " "USA" is a frantic, shape-shifting punk opera, like a "Jesus of Suburbia" stripped of the political shallowness of Green Day's American Idiot. MillenniumFan
Love that song! It's one of many songs that they don't play anymore as a result of their stale setlists these days...

Popular Post DeJennsitized
This is a really specific thing to rave about, but you know the live version of BOBD, and during the last chorus, during the line "my shallow heart's the only thing that's beating", Billie sings the last syllable in 'beating' lower than in the studio version? For some reason I really love that. I always sing it like that when I'm singing along now. He definitely does it that way in BIAB but I haven't paid enough attention to notice if he does it all the time. 7
MillenniumFan
Yep, that’s seems to be a more or less permanent change since he did it at other occasions too (AAF, Hyde park etc.).

My sister and I have a thing about it and when we see Green Day live we turn and grin at each other and/or high five when he does it . He absolutely does always do it, he must wish he'd done it that way on the album lol.

pouty bitch
Man, I've never noticed him do that in BOBD. #badfan I've just watched some BOBD clips on Youtube to see what you were talking about, and omg you're right, it sounds soooo good. I'll never be able to listen to BOBD the same way again. 1

I didn't even really notice it consiously til last night, when I was singing along really loudly in the car and realised I'd sung that note different on instinct

This makes me think of the high note he always puts on "But I can play the guitar until it hurts like hell" while in the album studio it lowers. He did it like the original version the first times they performed Forever Now live, in late 2016, but after that he just kept that high note and I can"t sing it another way now 2 hours ago, RedundantIdiot said: One year ago, the 10th January, the Revolution Radio arena tour started in Turin. Oh my God. And they've kept touring almost all this time. Since we've entered 2018, I can't stop thinking, almost a year since I first saw them live (3rd February). It seems like yesterday...

For some reason it makes me laugh when he changes notes live like that and whenever I come across an example of it I have to show my sister and she finds it hilarious too. Same goes with 21 Guns in the "Did you try to live on your own" part, where he sings "...like a liar looking for forgiveness from the stoooooooooooooooorm" - he stretches the storm soooo long, I fucking love it and always sing it that way. The studio version always sounds kind of boring compared to this

Marki.
I never stop to think about these little differences but I guess they're the reason I love the live versions so much I need to pay more attention to them now.
DeJennsitized
Not a fan of the "ohhhhhh"s Billie does during 21 Guns (he never seems to know how to end the note, lol) but I LOVE the piano before the last chorus

Guest
Today my hotel bill came back in the mail from my vacation and I just remembered the scene from Ordinary World when Billie's like "$2,000 for one night!?
