Don't know if this is the right thread (feel free to move to a better thread), but which GDC members do you miss the most/ least?

Most: End of the World

Least: Steven Seagull, the Jake guy

Well sometimes Steven Seagull is a pain but sometimes his comments just make me laugh

Just came across this article and it annoyed me more that a negative article about GD would because it's like it couldn't decide if it was a positive or negative article? I feel like the writer wrote it from the perspective of "guys, I know everyone hates Green Day but hear me out, they've got some redeeming qualities." Anyway, it irked me and I felt the need to share...

I have only read the title and subtitle and I can feel you already  :pinch:

Edit: I've read the whole article, I think I'm a bit bothered mostly with the beginning and the end. What's the "defense" for? If she chooses to use that word in her title, it should be more clarified. (I imagine what she must've heard or read for coming to this, but that not being spelled out makes me uncomfortable.) She also refers to American Idiot era in her subtitle while arguing that RevRad has been a renewed spotlight for the band - which I completely agree with!

Positive and negative article... not one I would want to recommend for someone who's never got into the band.

I saw that and read it and was left wondering what on earth point if it was?  I guess they had a small gap to fill and that fitted, told nobody anything and couldn't decide to be positive or negative.  Also, pretty lazy to not really mention Revrad, just embed a link to RS.  Useless piece of writing.

“In defense of Green Day” is such a shit title for an article. Why is she defending them? What have they done that warrants defending? Ugh. Also I have no idea what her point is - it’s not “listen to the new album” because she doesn’t even mention it.

She mentioned the current era in a positive way, but I'm left with the feeling her motivations for this title and everything that follows it in the article aren't being expressed. I said just above that "I imagine what she must've heard or read for coming to this," and I was thinking of the criticism she may have witnessed here and there towards Green Day, like we probably have all seen or heard. Perhaps she wanted to take this in consideration. She did it in a clumsy way.

I've seen "worse" (way more ambivalent than that), but it was so annoying I didn't keep the link. If I find it again I'll post it maybe.

I actually think that article was very positive. In the US, GD is widely thought of as a "teenager" type band. Even though there really are millions of people of all ages that are fans, most people that are not assume, only kids like them. For example, when hubby and I went to the first show in March, he told me afterwards that he thought it was going to be us and a bunch of kids. He was really surprised to see such a mix of people.

I think what the author is saying is that she kind of fell into that trap, now she has rediscovered them and realized that they are not only still great but great for people of all ages. And she is encouraging others to either discover them or rediscover them.

I actually thought it was a very good article.

I think if she'd heard or seen negative things about the band she should have mentioned them in the article, because as it is the title doesn't make sense. There's no indication of what she's "defending".

And the only thing she's really saying in the article is "I liked American Idiot as a teen, listened to the album now and yeah it's still good". She said good things about the era but not the album specifically, so she never really dispels the idea that GD are an old band who don't make new music anymore.

It's so annoying that so many other bands I follow keep spamming their youtube channels with live footage, and we still get absolutely NOTHING from Green Day. They didn't even upload the Global Citizen performance in their own channel! Someone should have woken up their damn promo team by the end of September, not Billie.

Bit late but random chat about GDC itself is best off in the GDC Regulars Club

Yeah I think the title bothered me the most too. Like I know a lot of people think of their youth when they think of GD but I feel like the general consensus is that they're a solid band not just a crappy pop band you later realize was never actually good. I also don't think they need defending when they're still filling large venues and putting out number 1 albums.

Yeah, I miss @End Of The World too. Wonder where he is. What happened to that Jake guy, if I may ask? Did he delete his profile himself or was he kicked out? I somehow missed that, only noticed that his older entries are now shown as "guest".

The problem that I have with articles like the one that @gaslight13 posted is that they suggest that Green Day is a band that is hated by most music critics and music fans out there. But this is bullshit. Most people acknowledge that they are a very talented band and almost everyone I know likes their music. It is true that they are not as commercially successful as they were back in 2005, but they had a no.1 record last year, they can still play big venues and the quality of their music is as high as always. There is no need to defend them. If you take a look at the reviews to all of their albums, you will realize that almost all of their releases were met with (very) positive reviews. Some music snobs who think that a band must be hated as soon as they sell more than 1000 records may hate them, but I refuse to think that they are one of the most hated bands out there. That's just ridiculous.

I agree 100%. I don't know many people I'd call "fans" but I don't really know anyone who dislikes them. Even in the punk scene (which is surprising).

He just wanted to leave and asked to have his account deleted. But anyway like I said above talk about GDC should really be in the GDC Regulars Club

I definitely agree with you, but my experience has been a little different. Some people have rolled their eyes and such if they see me wearing a GD shirt, but I don't think I would call them a band that everyone hates. If anything, I think they're a band that people love to pick on and pick apart with the whole punk/not punk thing, which who even cares about that? All that should matter is whether or not the music is good, which it is!
