Brain Stew in 2013 was the only one at a non-club show, so I'd hardly call anything from that album a standard part of the setlist for newer fans. That argument for omitting the album entirely really doesn't hold water, either, when everyone on GDC is always using the "think of the new fans who have never been to a show!" argument to justify why they have to play literally half of American Idiot and almost half of Dookie every night. I could do without hearing one of those songs to hear Geek Stink Breath once in a while. I don't think that's asking much. I'd even omit 2,000 Light Years Away at this point. It's not like that's a radio hit. New fans are not who I see setlists being catered to- it's casual or former fans that seem to be the majority at every arena show Ive been to. And let me tell you, regarding my last one, it absolutely was awkward to be around that crowd for a huuuge chunk of the songs, especially 2000 Light Years Away. Not that my ecstatic self cared all that much in the moment- I went as crazy for every song as if I was in an enthusiastic crowd. Tbh, the only RevRad song that stuck well was Bang Bang. Good Riddance had the most singing response. All the Dookie songs did fine. Everything else did not seem like many people were familiar with it and I said in my recap, I think they picked up on the lack of crowd energy from the get-go because they were not anywhere near as out there as they were in Brooklyn or even just other stuff Ive seen over the years. So my point is that shitty casual concert goers ruin energy of the crowd when they dont know the songs. I would argue that's the band's point with a recent hits-based, consistent, setlist. And as they keep going, yes, I do think songs will get replaced with more recent things and other albums will feel snubbed. I can definitely imagine a world where Minority/Warning songs get dropped. Unfortunately this band that we love is still big despite perceptions and extends to a lot more people beyond GDC. Those people's expectations and preferences will likely come first in arena settings. Although, sidenote, who the fuck are these people I see shelling out 100+ bucks on seats for a band they only somewhat know. I only spend this money on them cause they a massive part of my life 2 hours ago, TracksAtChristieRoad said: seeing some news from relatives down in Florida that the state has issued state of emergency with hurricane Irma approaching. specially cause the boys are playing Tampa tomorrow hopefully it doesn't effect the show, i was also thinking about Austins show given what has happened there if they still will be able play the venue? Maybe Miami but not the whole state lol. I havent heard any kind of warning. Irma is supposed to make landfall at Cuba, not Florida head on. I know Im far enough up the state for it to be just a matter of heavy tropical storm-like rain, and Tampa isnt THAT much further south. It will be totally fine, its happening tomorrow lol. RougeRogue
@AlissaGoesRAWR I am now laughing at myself because I just remembered you were at that show with me lmao. Which begs the question- did you not feel the lack of energy in the crowd the same as me? I know we were in way different spots, but I can tell you that down by the pit and those first 10 rows, it was lame as fuck.
herewegoagain
Love waking up to Green Day on the radio, got my current fave BOBD this morning Funnily the same station played 21 Guns on the morning of my first show in January, then I grew to love it later and was roughly one week and some adverse weather conditions away from getting to see it live Don't know what exactly but I'm sure it means something.

Honestly I think the awkwardness comes from being in a seat, not from the setlist choices. Being in the pit always seems to be a better experience in terms of experiencing the raw energy at a concert. That was my first time in a seat for Green Day (besides their Rock Hall induction) and it did feel a bit awkward in the back, but at the same time, no, I never once thought "man, this place is dead" during one particular song. There has been at least one first-time concertgoer at every show I've been to this tour though who is always going nuts to hear their basic hits, which I've found fascinating since they've been around so long. Like, "oh, thank GOD they're playing Jesus of Suburbia tonight!!!" type stuff. They've clearly never heard of setlist.fm.

Ive always been in seats (until today!!!) and truthfully Im just as energetic, if not moreso because I have more space to just be ridiculous...much to everyone around me's dismay, most likely. I think there's a lot of value in having 2000LYA though and idk if we give it credit. I most certainly never would have expected to hear anything pre-Dookie live in my life. We're all gonna have such different perceptions of their shows considering their 21+ year career. Some of us have seen everything, some nothing, some inbetween. Theyre never gonne please us all I suppose.

AmyxLongview
Does anyone else really like Murder City? I never see it talked about much but it's one of my favorite songs. It's not as complex as most of the other songs on 21CB but there's something really special about it to me.
Popular Post Psycho Britney
I love how BIAB can still unite people! A random story, but I travelled to a music festival at the weekend and started chatting to some people on the shuttle bus. My love of GD came up, and it was shared. I can't remember how it came up, but I said my first GD show was at Milton Keynes, and one of the people I was speaking with said it was their first ever concert. They went for a friends birthday, and so did I! I was saying how I went on the Saturday, and I wished I'd been there for both days. This person was there on the Saturday too!! What a small world Haha! I just thought this was a cool random story I'd share.

I believe it's Prague-only but you can listen online. They love Green Day. I often hear them play trilogy songs, live recordings and sometimes other rare stuff like covers or State Of Shock. The fun part is that I didn't really know the song when I first heard it on the radio (might have listened to in once years ago), but when I heard the intro I was wide awake in a second, turning it up because "that's Billie playing" but my normal early morning reaction to Green Day is "oh wait I know this band, what's that, Nirvana?"

Not sure who posted it just now or why, it says official but it's not and there are oddities about the sound, but I think it's a great watch, one of the very first shows of that time. Also, the guys look great, although I prefer Mike blonde but there is some nice short shirt action from Billie, sorry straying into fan girl territory! I spotted this too and added it to my watch-later-list, but it's not available anymore. The person seems to have deleted it and the channel seems to be gone also. That's so strange. And so sad.
