Tbh, more of 21st CB in general. I mean, is it my personal favourite album? No. The same also applies to the trilogy. But only playing one song of 21CB and completely omitting the trilogy just makes this setlist seem a bit old. Putting the emphasis to much on AI and Dookie hits and underrepresenting other albums (as well as completely omiting Insomniac, wtf?) makes this setlist seem further stale. To top it all off, they rarely to never change it and this includes RevRad songs. I mean, we still haven't heard 3 songs live (seriously, I'd kill to see BOTW live! So frustrating that they won't play it! That would be such a high energy song!).

The Beatles
So I'm doing a creative writing course, and one of the tasks was to write about a book/play/film/song or album that has stayed with me and why that is, so I wrote my feelings on why American Idiot has stuck with me for over 10 years - was wondering if it was similar to any of you guys? This was a stream-of-conciousness thing so it's not that well put, but you get the gist. Spoiler American Idiot album by Green Day. The entire thing. It told the story of three characters, but in a way that wasn’t overwritten. This allowed me to use my imagination to fill in the gaps between the songs. The emotions were so well done and spoke directly to me. Armstrong’s voice had a lot to do with that - his perfect tone for each one, like the coldness of Whatsername - but the lyrics were incredible. Each song wove together, and as the album progressed it referenced back to previous chapters. Like ‘you’re not the Jesus of suburbia. The Saint Jimmy is a figment of, your father’s rage and your mother’s love, made me the idiot America’, which sort of summed up the entire record, and also debunked previous story. It was like the main character, the narrator, was fighting back to his old idol Jimmy. He had realised Jimmy wasn’t a Saint, he was full of shit. And that although he opened up with ‘don’t wanna be an American idiot’, he knew he was and it was because of Jimmy. Well, in my own personal rendition of American Idiot. Another thing that captured me when I was a kid was the aesthetics and layout of the lyric booklet. Which makes a lot of sense, it’s like the layout technique of poetry; the way things look on a page is really important. The handwriting looked like the narrator had written down his story, the handwriting was emotional (which I didn’t even know was a thing). It was written over and bold at the important parts, and sometimes at what seemed like the less important parts, which made me ponder those particular lines. The end song, Whatsername, is like a flash forward in a prologue. Forgetting you but not the time, did you ever marry old whats his face? It’s like the narrator is now looking back on the story he has told, and the love he lost. I made a point to burn all of the photographs is just such an amazing line. She went away and then I took a different path. It’s such a vivid telling of a guy making himself move on purposefully from this girl, the detail of the photographs makes the lyrics so three dimensional. That’s one of the reasons (the non-musical ones) of why this album will forever be my favourite record of all time. It’s such a stupid and corny thing to say, but it actually did honestly change my life (I don’t know why people shy away from saying that about modern popular things). It's like all great masterpieces of art should do. 1

pouty bitch
I have a friend who isn't very much of a Green Day fan, but she knows quite a bit about them because of me, so she knows that John was the drummer on 39/Smooth and Tre was the drummer for the rest of the albums. Yesterday, she asked me something along the lines of "since Tre's been the drummer for so long, do you ever forget that it's not him drumming on 39/Smooth?" Now that I think about it, I never really notice the drumming on 39/Smooth. I was never a "drummy" person, but when I started listening to Green Day, I suddenly became interested in the drumming. It's just occurred to me that 39/Smooth is the only GD album where I'm not immediately drawn to the drumming. Tre is the only drummer I can think of off the top of my head that really draws me in to the songs. Don't get me wrong, John is a good drummer in his own right, but he just doesn't capture my attention like Tre does.

What are your thoughts? I thought they did really well! It's always nice to see that Green Day gets honoured by being covered, but listening to a Green Day song with someone else singing than Billie always makes me cringe. It's just me though, I have a thing with cover versions. I've never even listened to the full musical cast recording, to be honest. 19 hours ago, MillenniumFan said: But only playing one song of 21CB and completely omitting the trilogy just makes this setlist seem a bit old. I don't necesssarily seek out 21st Century Breakdown or the trilogy when I'm listening to their songs on my own, because they're just not my favorite albums as a whole, but they do have some highlights I enjoy and at this point I'd take anything new in the setlist. And completely omitting Insomniac goes beyond criminal, as far as I'm concerned. It's just inexplicable.

I hear a lot of people complaining about Insomniac getting snubbed, but that and sometimes Jaded have been present for some time. Their catalog is HUGE. I think we're going to have to start expecting a missing album in favor of the newest at some point. And truthfully...I think most of Insomniac is pretty forgotten by most of the radio-listening general public.

Popular Post jengd
For those 21CB fans (I love this album), this appeared on YouTube a couple of days ago. Not sure who posted it just now or why, it says official but it's not and there are oddities about the sound, but I think it's a great watch, one of the very first shows of that time. Also, the guys look great, although I prefer Mike blonde but there is some nice short shirt action from Billie, sorry straying into fan girl territory! 4
Billie Hoe
I was listening to Misery earlier and about the line "he liquidated his estate" and since I didn't know that "liquidate" was an actual money-term, I always assumed that he literally turned his money into liquid by spending all of it on alcohol and then finding misery in the Height

And truthfully...I think most of Insomniac is pretty forgotten by most of the radio-listening general public. I've seen them seven times in the past four years, including three club shows, and I've only seen four songs off Insomniac played live, none of them more than once. Brain Stew in 2013 was the only one at a non-club show, so I'd hardly call anything from that album a standard part of the setlist for newer fans. That argument for omitting the album entirely really doesn't hold water, either, when everyone on GDC is always using the "think of the new fans who have never been to a show!" argument to justify why they have to play literally half of American Idiot and almost half of Dookie every night. I could do without hearing one of those songs to hear Geek Stink Breath once in a while. I don't think that's asking much. I'd even omit 2,000 Light Years Away at this point. It's not like that's a radio hit.

I've been watching to see if it affects the Wednesday show as well on the Alabama Gulf coast. But Irma isn't supposed to hit until the weekend and is more likely to go up the East coast so they should be well clear of it by the time they leave the Gulf area Wednesday night. What's the issue with Austin? Isn't that further inland? Have they had flooding?
