Random Green Day Thoughts

Nearly two weeks too late with this thought, but here goes! I've always loved practically everything about Letterbomb and always thought of it as one of the "undiscovered" gems on American Idiot. I honestly didn't think I could adore it more, but after hearing it in Dublin, I have a new appreciation for the song, which is surprising because y'know, I thought it was such a flawless song to begin with and nothing could make it better! Billie's Trump-bashing and speech in the middle also complimented it wonderfully

Same, always loved Letterbomb but still get surprised every time I experience it live because it's just SO amazing and absolutely magical. And Billies speeches are a nice touch!

It will be my friend's birthday in a few days. I wanted to buy Revolution Radio for her because she wants the album and she always asked me to bring mine when we meet. I went to the music store to buy it and asked a guy to help me to find it because the shelf was empty. His computer says there are 2 copies available, but it seems the music store lost them. We were unable to find the cds. :( Gift card instead...

They will have been lifted :ermm: that's what has usually happenened when the stock doesn't match the shelf. A shame!

I thought about it too. I've been working in stores for the last 13 years and yes it does happen from time to time that something is missing. But 2 copies gone? They were there 2 weeks ago when I went to the store and the guy told me the store did its inventory last week.  I wasn't lucky yesterday.

Poprocks & Coke is such a refreshing and calming song to listen to! I was listening to my Green Day playlist on shuffle earlier, and it came on straight after Take Back & Basket Case. As I was obviously headbanging wildly to TB and BC, it felt nice to have a mellow and more subdued song following them that I could recover to! I also love the message of Poprocks & Coke, and I just can't help but think how cute and appropriate it would be for a wedding playlist!

My daughter made a video for her younger sister on her birthday to that song. It was the way I heard it for the first time and was so cute, full of pics and vids of the two of them, it's become my association whenever I hear the song. ❤️

I was proofreading something at work the other day and almost crossed out "Billy".  Then I remembered that it actually can be spelled that way.

Thanks for giving me a good laugh today:lol: Love this.

This has to be one of my favourite performances of this song (certainly this tour). Simply magical.

I feel like such a bad fan - I've only just realised that Tim Armstrong is in the music video for Bang Bang.:sorry: I knew he directed it, but I didn't know he was actually in it.

Letterbomb has always been one of my favourites and I'm so happy they finally play it live more often. I remember Billie saying it's his favourite song on AI, so I always wondered why they rarely played it live. The "Where will all the martyrs go when the virus cures itself and where will we all go when it's too late" line is incredible and I got goosebumps every time I heard it live.

I adore that line as well, especially when all the instruments come kicking in afterwards and the entire crowd unleashes into a frenzy!

Is it just me who really dislikes the way tre looks now? He looks like a 50 or 60 year old with crazy dyed hair (or what hair he has left), and maybe it's time for him to ditch the guyliner. Definitely looks older than anyone else in the band. And this coming from someone who thought he looked his best during the trilogy.

I wasn't always sure, but I'm so sure now! I'm finally done crying/moaning/sulking about not being able to see them back in 2009/2010 (even though being a fan since long before then)

I'm still not over it but almost. Revrad era made up for it so I'm not bitter about it anymore but a bit of regret is still there.

Oh yeah, some amount of regret is certainly still there for me too. I mean, they played in my city in 2009, I saw posters everywhere, I so desperately wanted to go! But, alas, it wasn't to be... :(

To think that show was also the one immediately after the gig at Olympiahalle in Munich (MTV world stage 2009)...

I'll be honest: At first I was a bit disappointed when I saw live videos of Green Day in 2012/2013. When I saw Billie struggling with alcohol, drugs and his voice and the band seemingly falling apart. I still wasn't quite convinced by the gig they played in my home town in January of this year either (I also wasn't feeling very well on the day, it has to be said).

However, the last leg of this tour (Festivals and open-air gigs in Europe) and the gig they played at Greenfield, where I had the opportunity of seeing them once more, was the turning point for me. Seeing Billie smiling as much as he did there and jumping around on stage was fantastic! That was exactly the kind of Green Day gig I had always dreamed of witnessing, after seeing BIAB, AAF and countless other performances online!

I prefer Tre with slight longer and messier hair.  Don't think he's looking that bad, he probably struggles with his weight a bit as he can, and will need to, eat like a horse on tour but then needs to cut back or the pounds will pile on.  Loving the blue hair though, but never thought the eyeliner looked as good on him as on Billie.

sorry, that seemed random, hadn't realised the chat had moved on.

They were awesome in 2009/10 but in February too.  Don't know how they manage to keep so energised and their enthusiasm up the way they do, guess they just love what they do.

I see what you mean, a bit of regret stays.

Yes, even though I was excited about the music, Billie's vocals and the general bad mood sort of brought me down. They simply didn't sound as good as before.

However, I went to the January show ready to have a great time - and I had. I went to the summer show knowing that it was going to be fab and I wasn't wrong. I don't know if this tour is actually different, but they were fantastic. Better than I could dream of.

One of my friends once said that he saw a Green Day concert (on YouTube, I suppose) and that it was really bad. He said that "their frontman" couldn't sing and "the drummer" wann't good either. I've always asked myself which performance of them he saw 'cause all of the pro-shot footage I know ist great. I almost felt personally attacked :D

He probably saw iHeart. It's the only bad pro-shot performance I know of plus YouTube kept recommending it to me all the time until lots of new revrad footage came out.

Ah no, there are plenty of badly mixed pro-shot recordings which ruin the performance. When did he say this (just to narrow down the options)? It could have been Rock Am Ring 2013 (Vocals awfully mixed and Billie wasn't in top form, don't know about the bad drumming know. After listening to the Hyde Park Broadcast I once again know that Tre's drumming is as good as it ever was. Everyone has bad days though...) The other Rock Am Ring recording was poorly mixed, so was the recording at Wiltern... Or it could even be Reading 2013.

I know, it's considered almost legendary by most here. But fact is, Billie was very tired on the day and it showed, Tre's drumming also wasn't at it's peak (understandably), he messed up the drum fill-in in Burnout for example...

Still, this is all nit-picking as none of the above are really bad...
