MillenniumFan
I didn't really think much about the cover of Warning. However, what I can say is I cringed when I first saw the trilogy album covers (although Uno was definitely the worst)...
Marki.
I never thought about the Warning cover as awful, I like the photos they used But the lightning man design would be a lot more effective and attention-grabbing, I guess.
Christian's Inferno!
I don't see the problem with the Warning cover. I mean, they still used the lightning man, he was just on the back of the album, right?

It's just when they had this really cool eye catching design that perfectly represented the album it was crazy to hide it away and use a mediocre photo of the band instead. It's the equivalent of using that random black and white photo of the band on the back of Kerplunk for the cover instead of the girl with the gun or hiding American Idiot's iconic heart shaped hand grenade in the lyric booklet. And I love the Uno Dos Tre covers . They're fun and Billie's smirk is excellent. I have a giant poster of them on my wall.
pacejunkie punk
I agree about Warning though I love any band photo, that logo was iconic. I'm glad they kept it through the AI tour, if you look at the set at Milton Keynes it was actually used more prominently than the hand grenade. I happen to be one of the core group that really loves the Warning album though.

Yeah, they should've used it and it might've attracted some more fans. Like, people might have saw that image and thought it was cool and might have checked out the album or the band. But it was released 17 years ago so it doesn't really matter now. I like how they used that logo in the Troubled Times lyric video too Yeah I think the trilogy covers were pretty cool. I get some of the complaints but to me, it was just them having fun with it and not taking it too seriously. The 21CB cover is my favourite, just the theme of the album goes so well with the cover. Like it is a kind of apocalyptic image and the music is sort of apocalyptic too and even some of the song titles. And of course the AI cover which is simple but powerful and I love how they reference it in She's a Rebel "Holding on my heart like a handgrenade"
pouty bitch
I like the Warning Cover, but I do agree that the lightning man would have been better.
Beerjeezus
I hated the trilogy artwork at the first glance and even though I got used to it, I can't say it's good. It's pretty cool, I mean the guys pulling faces and bright colors. But green and purple is a godawful color combination, that's all I have to say about Uno. It all looks like it's been created in microsoft paint but that was what they were going for I guess The idea is good, but the covers turned out a bit ugly haha Warning? Not much to say about Warning. The cover picture is pretty nice but not very eye-catching. I like that they went for a band photo though. It was different from their previous artworks and it's different from those that followed. And the album is different too! I don't know, the simple logo would have been more attractive (because the way the album cover looks, I'd guess it's a folk record or something mild like that lol) but I wouldn't call it bad.
herewegoagain
Awful is a strong word, but I could agree to the Warning album cover being boring or not very eye catching. I like it despite that though - it doesn't necessarily represent them as a whole but it fits the more serious (folky if you will) tone of the album imo. The lightning man logo is cool but I think the picture works just as well. I may of course be biased as it's my favourite album sentimentally/musically. It was in fact my entry point to the world of GD, although I won't claim it was the cover that pulled me in
St. Jonny
Warning cover is unique because it is the only one with the band on it, I've always liked the cover. Especially because they only did something like that once. Speaking of Warning, I was watching the 2001 Cologne festival show for the first time in a really long time and I forgot how many awesome and hilarious moments there were at that show. The guy who played Knowledge was good, I was surprised Billie let him do Basket Case in it's entirety as well, and aside from the palm mutes he did a pretty great job, killer memory for that guy! Then that part where the German voice comes on the PA babbling during Waiting and there still playing like what the hell? Billie yells "Shut the fuck up" and continues. Forgot how funny this show was, god bless youtube. Anybody not seen this set before?

kkpojpojpj
Oh, and my comment about the Warning cover being "fucking awful" might have been a bit of an overstatement lol. The cover is just so frustrating to me because it had so much potential, if only it had been executed better. It's the only one with a photo of them and the photo quality is so bad. Obviously it was done on purpose but I would love it if it wasn't blurry. And as others have already talked about, they had that lovely lightning man logo and it's such a shame they didn't use it on the front. Speaking of album covers; I love the one for Revolution Radio! It's so simple and I think that fits the album. I've only seen people talk about it negatively though. What do you guys think about it? When I first saw it online I was disappointed with it because a burning radio is hardly the most original idea and they've already done a radio with flames for 21st CB. But seeing it on the CD I like it, the quality is really good especially with the way it has texture and it does look very striking with just the radio and no writing. It's also cool that it's a photo of an actual radio really on fire rather than something put together digitally. Still not the most original of ideas but it's executed very well and looks good.

St. Jonny
Yeah he looks about my age in 2001. I felt the same, I'm like wow, he's an icon, and at 28, I cover his music. Perhaps I shouldn't have written mainly thrash metal music. He was 29 there I think, in a '98 interview he said he was 26 so. As if that guy got to play all of Basket Case with Green Day ON Blue none the less, that is as awesome as it gets really.

pacejunkie punk
There's a five year age difference between me and Green Day so we've gone through life stages at very similar times--school, marriage, kids etc. Our kids are now close in age with their kids and that's just weird.
