Random Green Day Thoughts

I've been a bit bored the last couple of days I've been off work- so I decided to write a music, geography and football (Newcastle United) quiz for Mum and Dad. Upon seeing this quiz, Dad decided to test me on my knowledge of GD songs by playing them straight off YouTube- I got them all right!! BOBD, WMUWSE, 21 Guns, Hitchin a Ride, Redundant, Minority, Warning, and Troubled Times. He was surprised I got the all right, but it was too bloody easy ;)

I have a question: have GD ever/never sold programmes at gigs? Or is selling programmes at concerts something bands don't really do nowadays?? I was really surprised to see that GD weren't selling programmes at my gig, and they don't seem to have done it at all during the tour.

I'm sure that if they'd produced programmes it would have been an interesting read- interviews, pictures, factoids about the tour, posters, etc. I don't know how much it would cost to produce a load of programmes... but at the gig I went to there were massive queues at the merchandise stands, and people were spending a lot of money. I'm pretty sure that if programmes were available people would have bought them- I know I would've, and I'm sure a lot of people here would've.

Not many bands seem to sell programmes at shows anymore.  My mum has a massive collection of programmes from when she was younger and always wants to keep adding to it, but the only band that I've seen that sold them was McBusted (who were excellent btw).  I agree it would be really nice to see some programmes on future tours, especially if they're still only £5 like @jengd said.

I love McBusted and their shows really are excellent. They're probably my second fav band ever, after GD. :D

I would like to see GD selling programmes too.

In the pop choir at my school, we're going to do Good Riddance!!!!!!! :bunny:

We've been trying to decide on a more modern song that we could add instrumentation to for about a week now,

and it literally came down to a coin toss between that and sound of silence. The GD gods looked favorably upon me today i guess.

And now i've got about a month to learn it on guitar :D

That's awesome :D The choir I was in when I was at school did it too (around 2005). When the teacher announced the song I hadn't heard of it, but by the time we were performing it during assembly, I struggled to not sing it the way Billie Joe does, instead of the harmonies we'd be taught

I have one that I bought at Wembley Stadium in 2010 - I can't remember what's in it because I haven't looked at it in years but I actually remember being annoyed they didn't choose better photos!

Just saw Joey playing with Mojo and Cleo via a Swmrs page, I wonder if Rocky's still around :wub:

The dog that almost never seems to get mentioned is Mickey.  I've only seen one picture of him, I think on Joey's page.  I can't remember ever seeing him on Billie's page.

Oh yeah, I wouldn't even know if he hadn't mentioned the name on the Jeff Matika show. We need more pictures of them all, he's doing instagram wrong.

I've been watching some nimrod era shows on youtube recently and i really like the way The Grouch sounds live with the fully distorted guitars, I wonder why they decided to go for such a weak guitar sound for that song on the recording

I got 87/100 mainly cause the 39/smooth ones i never listen to seperately, i just listen to the whole record together, and never know the names of any of the songs:lol:

Thanks for the link to the quiz!

I've just done it and I got 79 right! I think that's pretty good for someone who only bought their 1st GD album 14 months ago and is still trying to obtain all the albums. It was mainly the 39/smooth songs and a few brain farts that stopped me getting more.

Even though I wouldn't consider myself a big fan of 1039, I really enjoy Don't Leave Me. The guitars are just so punchy and I love the harmonies

The first run through of the video I got 92 on the quiz. Some I missed because I was trying to remember a previous song  and yeah, most of them were 1,039/SOSH songs that I missed :D

YOU GUYS.

I finally saw a band whose stage presence is in the same vein of Green Day's in terms of crowd involvement / participation. It was The Maine and I just got back from their show and a guy got pulled up on stage! The lead singer was totally engaged with the crowd the entire night, start to finish, non-stop.

Green Day is the only band I had ever seen do these things to this degree, but The Maine has easily taken a second place, very comparable spot. Wow. Blown away.

I was considering writing up a post because I got a great video of some of it but I couldn't think of where something like that would go.

Was just day dreamin' how I'm gonna see the guys in 15 days, and then RevRad got into my head and I thought "I bet this song is gonna be fucking epic live".

..and then I thought, "I bet this song will get me so nostalgic after the shows are done".
