DeJennsitized
Love the GD anniversary talk I remember buying American Idiot and BIAB at the same time in January 2006 (and remember the exact moment I heard my Are We The Waiting for the first time), but the date I got into them must be before that. In fact, I'm thinking it must have been the first half of 2005 as well, because I used to watch the music channels before school and I remember BOBD getting heavy airplay but Holiday less so (as a new release maybe?) and I was desperate to hear it again i also used to listen to Yahoo radio on the computer and I heard a bunch of songs from Warning and Shenanigans. And my school choir were learning Good Riddance for the Spring Concert which must have been 2005. Also, being around for 21CB was amazing. 2009 and 2010 was such a great time for me. 19 hours ago, Whatsername_123 said: I have no clue what day I officially became a GD fan. But I wonder how many crazy fans have kept the receipts that they were given whenever they bought a GD album from the record store ? (I've still got all of mine). It might seem crazy keeping the receipts, but I've put them alongside my concert ticket and newspaper cuttings from my gig. I kept a scrapbook around the time I got into green day and I kept the sticker and receipt from my Shenanigans CD I'm sure I have the BIAB sticker too. Popular Post Hermione
FBHT times were the best. Best surprise ever when they just mysteriously turned up out of nowhere with 6 free songs when there'd been virtually nothing but silence from GD for a few years. And it was so much fun being new on GDC (which was actually Foxboro Hot Tubs Community for a while ) following their US tour and hearing all the crazy details of each show and reading Myspace updates from the Rev. Great times.

herewegoagain
Y'all are making regret so much not exploring GD further during my two short phases in 05/08. So much fun missed Regarding anniversaries I've been trying through playlists to find the exact date I heard either Too dumb to die or Bang Bang on the radio in November and it's doing my head in that I can't But - random thought: ¡Viva La Gloria! is surely some of their best melody work

MaraGreenDay
I wish I was around GDC during FBHT and 21stCB, but I wasn't very interested on being on the internet during that time, Idk why thought lol, I was aware of Green Day news through music tv channels and I visited GD.com a few times at month, but that was it And I only visited the official website waiting for tour dates in México I don't remember when was the first time I heard about the existence of FBHT, but I still remember when I bought the cd, and I became so obsessed with them haha. letsdanceon
Not that anyone cares, haha, but I think I've at least narrowed my gdaversary to a month... i found nothing in my personal stuff to give me clues, but I found out that Mtv added the Longview video to its "Buzzbins" clips (popular videos they would play often) on March 28 of 1994. Therefore, I would assume if it was on heavy airplay I would have seen it in April of '94, especially if my cousin thinks we were buying Dookie by May. I am satisfied with a conclusion of April 1994 as my Green Dayaversary 😆
Hermione
I found out about FBHT on Teletext . Used to read the music pages on there and I didn't have an internet connection at the time. But luckily I did shortly afterwards.
unextraordinarygirl
Unlike a lot of you, I didn't grow up with Green Day. When I discovered them I was already 27. But I could still relate to what they were saying. I was still young enough, even though I was already out of college and had a full-time job. Hermione
We should start calling them Foxies again . Their official nickname was Tubbies (or FBHT - from their logo) but for some reason we would call them that.

Okay this is not related to this at all but I just wanted to say that I clicked the link "GD.com" and I died because this is where it got me. To not go off topic, me and my dad looked through old boxes full of CDs in the basement and we found multiple homemade CDs from 2005-2008 with tracks like Working Class Hero (the GD cover) and BOBD. We did have great taste back then.

(Other than like, Andres of course) I also frequently get it mixed up in my head of which threads were GDC and which were GSB. I think I was more active on GSB. And then one of the first-ever forums I joined (possibly pre-dating GDC) was Fear The Dogs, a Mike forum. Which...seems so distant to me now that I'm half convinced I'm making it up. But the people I wound up closest to were the people in the Green Day thread on the Mibba forum. A small niche, but lots of fun during that 21CB era.
RedundantIdiot
I first heard GDs music when AI came out and I liked to listen to their music on the radio, but it wasn't until last year that I actually decided to buy their CDs and immersed myself in their music. When I got a new job, the last pay slip for my old job (when taxes were taken off it) was enough to buy an iPod that I'd been looking at for a while, thanks to the pay from my shitty old job. I then decided that I quite fancied having some GD on my new iPod and before I knew it I'd given my soul to this band. When I came home with a copy of AI (my 1st GD album) my parents were shocked... I don't know why as Dad has since said that he was also listening to them a lot around the time of AI. When the tickets for the UK gigs went on sale I was worried they'd say no to me going.. but they didn't. Even now that I've seen one of their gigs, I still feel as if they are questioning how I've gone from buying my 1st GD album last year to being a big fan of them! Maybe if they'd got tickets to come with me to see the most outstanding gig I've ever seen, then maybe they'd understand why I like GD so much. pouty bitch
I notice that a lot of people on this thread are saying that they had known about Green Day for a long time, but didn't really become a fan until last year. It was the same with me, but I thought I was the only one. Thank God I'm not. I became a casual fan around about July last year, but since then, I've listened to more and more of their music and now I own all of their albums and I consider myself fully part of the fandom. So, more people are becoming proper Green Day fans, and I have also noticed that a lot of young kids are going to see shows on the Rev Rad tour. Why is Green Day gaining so many fans now? Also, some people on this thread have said that they stopped coming on GDC around trilogy era, but now they have started coming back on regularly. Why is that? Is it because there was a lack of wow in the trilogy, or is it because you have gained a lot of love for Rev Rad?

We really are fandom twins I stopped posting at one point too, and came back for a few posts every few years (trilogy announcement, Hall of Fame induction ceremony) and then came back regularly last August. I recognised Hermione as well and a few others. It's always been GDC for me though. I had no idea a Mike forum existed, that's amazing, lmao. 1 hour ago, G-L-O-R-I-A said: Also, some people on this thread have said that they stopped coming on GDC around trilogy era, but now they have started coming back on regularly. I left around 2010, came back and made a few posts when I saw that picture of the guys holding up the albums, and then left again. I don't think the trilogy really inspired me to talk about it that much. But the weird thing is I came back last year before the album or even Bang Bang was out, so maybe I just had a feeling it was going to be good, lol. I wouldn't say I stopped loving Green Day before that but I kinda stopped following all the non-album stuff, like Billie's acting and the side projects. Which I suppose was a result of not coming on to the forum

Why is that? Is it because there was a lack of wow in the trilogy, or is it because you have gained a lot of love for Rev Rad? Well like I said, I was in college and had just started Film School. My interests shifted to actors and movies and tv shows. My main fandom went to How I Met Your Mother and Neil Patrick Harris tbh. In that, I also was growing into and understanding my own queer identity and, as much as we have the Bisexual Billie conversations, GD wasnt relevant to me for that part of who I was. But in branching out, my musical tastes expanded. I found the value in good pop music and became a pretty serious Mika fan. In that time, there just wasnt anything happening in the fandom to regain any serious interest. When RevRad came out...idk it was exciting again and I wanted to talk about GD again. And this is THE place to do that. It just feels to me like I had to go do some self discovery for a while and branch out into other types of interests. Also, yeah, I never was a casual fan and then a while later became one. Whenever I get into something like that, I have to go all in lol
Popular Post herewegoagain
I think I've successfully turned my brother onto Green Day for real We were driving to my dad's yesterday and all of a sudden Jaded(!) came on the stereo. Turns out it was an Essential GD type of playlist on iTunes that he's been getting into. We listened to that, Brain Stew, Geek Stink Breath, Redundant and Bang Bang amongst others on the way there, it was a nice little 'moment'. To top it off he's thoroughly enjoying puppet Billie on instagram, there's no turning back from that

Yeah they had quite an active Myspace as it was before Facebook took over. There were strange photos on it and they'd give updates about what was going on and post surprise new songs before the album was out (Broadway and The Pedestrian). After each show on their US tour the Rev would post a blog full of his 60's style slang (Sting sting! Baby girl!) talking about the show they just played and signing off with a mention of the next place they'd play. But tragically all the blogs were deleted when Myspace got rid of all blogs with no warning The end of the last message is quoted on GDA here. I might have a look later to see if I can find any more that were reported/quoted there.
