Random Green Day Thoughts

I always interpreted "stop when the red lights flash" as referring to sex and temptation in the context of the albums, since Oh Love is about sexual tension and he tells the girl/himself "don't stop when the red lights flash" (ignore the warning signs, give in to temptation). Then he says it as more of a phrase by the time things have escalated to "I'll make you surrender". The "red lights" = forbidden contact, so them "flashing" is a warning. It reflects the whole "forbidden love" theme.

I've never thought it's directly referring to his issues, but I guess we'll never know for sure since I doubt he'll talk about these songs now.

Right, see, I'm not debating what Billie (or Elvis apparently) meant in using the phrase, simply noting that there is no other place that phrase comes from than buses. Meanings aside, that is the origin whether Billie consciously realized he got it there or not.

And I personally love the mental image of Billie frustrated behind a slow ass bus, or sending one of the boys off to school and seeing it as it drove past and then getting a song out of it.

It means nothing special in my opinion. Just "stop when the red lights flash", literally.

But when I listen to the song I remember crashing my car on Need For Speed (it was on the soundtrack).

I have to disagree with you.  First, stop when the red lights flash is not a line in That's All Right.

not in Elvis version but it is in the GD version

No you are correct, but the poster clearly stated that Elvis must have sat behind alot of buses since that line was in the song, but it is not in the Elvis version which is what I was pointing out

A local radio started playing Still Breathing, it just came on a moment ago and I have to say this song keeps growing on me. I love it. I don't really mind the lyrics anymore and now I can feel more emotion in it that I originally would.

I've forgotten the existence of some Green Day songs due to having not listened to some albums in a long ass time, lol. Like I saw Android mentioned and I was like "wtf, is that a- OH RIGHT it's on Kerplunk."

I didn't even remember how it sounded, but a quick look at the lyrics made me partially remember the melody. It is indeed a great one.

I need to refresh my memory on the older songs, I used to have all that shit memorized. :P

True true, Green Day re-memorization can wait until I graduate. I need my brain space for college.

A radio station here played Revolution Radio a few weeks ago. I was in the car and my dad was talking about something. I just interrupted him screaming "turn up the radio, turn up the radio". They rarely play Green Day here.

A lot of the time I forget Insomniac even exists, if we're discussing songs that get lost in the brain matter. I honestly couldn't even name the tracklist off the top of my head and I listen to it even less than the Trilogy 😕 Oops? My go-to albums when I want to listen to Green Day, in order: Warning, Nimrod/RevRad, Dookie, 21CB. I rarely actually listen to AI from beginning to end.

WHAT! To me Insomniac is their best album!

Finally I don't agree with you lol

 Insomniac is too heavy for me. I would even go so far as to say it's my least favourite, if you were to wrap up the Trilogy as one because Brutal Love and Drama Queen are miles above anything on Insomniac for me 🙈

Totally agree. It's raw sound + power + speed + anger = GD at their best.

Exactly! I couldn't have said it better!

:really: Worse than the Trilogy!!! HOW?! Are you sure?! Just go back and listen to it. You need to be sure, I can't accept this < over dramatic
