Beerjeezus
Sometimes he would slouch too much when playing. It's not the best position for singing and he probably doesn't want to have a hump on his back either.

Popular Post Wretched & Divine
Another amusing anecdote about my mum and Green Day I was telling her about Matty Healy (lead singer in The 1975) being pulled onstage to play bass at a Green Day concert when he was a kid/teenager. Me: Matty was onstage with Green Day when he was a kid Mum: What? How old is he? Me: 27 Mum: ... when did Green Day form? Me: Uh. In the 80s. Her: How old is Billie? Me: Um, 43? 44? Her: HOW LONG AGO DID WE SEE THEM?! Me: The first time? Eleven years ago. Or seven years ago for the second time. She then proceeded to have a bit of a meltdown and demanded I show her a recent photo of Billie, which she was incredulous about and thought was from the AI era

I told her he was 33 at the time and she said: "he looked good back then and he looks good now!"

I don't know how exactly it started because it's been years but I think we saw him on TV and mom joked that I like old bands and dad said "no he's young, he's young like me" and since then, Billie has been as old as my dad no matter his actual age. In fact, he's permanently 50 in this household.
StuckWithRob
Random thought... when Billie Joe changes the lyrics of Holiday to "pulverize the Donald Trump tower" it doesn't really make sense, as the original lyrics: "pulverize the Eiffel towers" relates to how the Bush government discredited nations such as France who opposed the Iraq War and would destroy anything that gets in the way. So the new phrase doesn't really fit with the other lyrics. If you're sarcastically suggesting to "Sieg Heil to the president Gasman" etc. you should also suggest not to pulverize but to perhaps popularize/legitimize Trump towers, but then the next line "who criticize your government" doesn't fit with the re-write either. So while I like Billie Joe's attempt to modernize the song, it doesn't really work. As much as the American Idiot songs still resonate today, in the detail they very much belong to an anti-Bush rather than anti-Trump perspective.

I did a cover of holiday for an event earlier this year, I modernized it by saying "sieg heil to the president trump man" which I thought made way more sense.

That's very cool too but Trump Towers are actually a thing so "pulverize the Donald Trump Towers" sounds way more powerful to me, no matter if the point of view gets a little bit confused.

findsolaceinrock
Random thought..I never really liked the studio version of the song American Idiot...the intensity and anger of the lyrics do not really present themselves in the music (the vocals especially). Fortunately, the first time I listened to that song, it was in Bullet in a Bible, when I was watching American Idiot live on YouTube. I was completely mind-blown by raw power of that song, and how the people cheering during the solo actually made it sound like a revolution. Even now, I always listen to the live version, and I almost always skip the album track of American Idiot. Seriously, compare the music and vocals of this- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TSa8H7eIKaM to this- Although I know that most of you would have seen these already, I urge to listen to then one more time.

Live versions are better though. I tend to skip it too but I do like the transition from it to Jos

I didn't realize how much more it actually resonates with me because I usually like studio versions better but you have a good point. Just like when I listen to the live version of JOS that stays with me more too. Certain songs when I think of them the broadway version actually comes to me like Too Much Too Soon.

lizziebix
So I showed hubby the Still Breathing video when it came out. Thought he didn't like the song (not sure about the video). But he came home from work telling me that the local alternative radio station played it and he really liked it.

Was on my way out this evening and heard Still Breathing on the radio as well. Then on our way back, about an hour and a half later, the same station played it again. It's starting!
