21st century breakdown is seriously underrated! I think they just picked the wrong singles. Especially the first one. Not that it's bad, just not the best choice.

So true. The title track in particular is severely underappreciated. Epic lyrics and the music video is the best I've ever seen.

But, every song that wasn't a single especially was. Think of all of the amazing non-singles off the album- Murder City, Horseshoes and Handgrenades, relentless heart syndrome, peacemaker,Viva La Gloria(little girl),American Eulogy, and Christians inferno are all great.

With Green Day releasing a new album and going on tour... all that new music videos and interviews... finally I have something to live for again. Rev Rad will come out exactly when I have to go back to university, so I'll have something that'll cheer me up and something to look forward to.

Do you plan to follow them around?

I wish! No, sadly I will neither have the time nor the money to do that. :/ I plan on seeing them at least once and, if I'm lucky, twice.

I'm not sure where to put this and it's a random thought so I'm putting it here. :P

So I was listening to "Having A Blast" in the car today and thinking or wondering if its theme is along the same lines as Bang Bang. It def. seems like it's a first person account of a terrorist or crazy person. Thoughts on this?

They're definitely similar thematically (written from the point of view of a disturbed mind), which Billie has actually said in the Kerrang interview. Personally I never thought about such an interpretation of Having A Blast before he actually mentioned it. I always thought it was more along the lines of Chump or Longview.

Having a Blast lyrics

I'm taking all you down with me
Explosives duct taped to my spine
Nothing's gonna change my mind

I won't listen to anyone's last words
There's nothing left for you to say
Soon you'll be dead anyway

Well no one here is getting out alive
This time I've really lost my mind and I don't care
So close your eyes
And kiss yourself goodbye
And think about the times you spent and what they've meant
To me it's nothing
To me it's nothing
To me it's nothing
To me it's nothing

I'm losing all my happiness
The happiness you pinned on me
Loneliness still comforts me

My anger dwells inside of me
I'm taking it all out on you
And the shit you put me through

Well no one here is getting out alive
This time I've really lost my mind and I don't care
So close your eyes
And kiss yourself goodbye
And think about the times you spent and what they've meant
To me it's nothing
To me it's nothing
To me it's nothing
To me it's nothing

Do you ever think back to another time?
Does it bring you so down that you thought you lost your mind?
Do you ever want to lead a long trail of destruction
And mow down any bullshit that confronts you?
Do you ever build up all the small things in your head?
To make one problem that adds up to nothing
To me it's nothing
To me it's nothing
To me it's nothing

The lyrics are disturbing and would probably be very controversial today with all the killing going on, but I definitely see a parallel to Bang Bang.

I don't think it's anything to do with terrorism, or even craziness.  I think it's to do with boredom, disillusionment and restlessness that eventually leads to the narrator having some kind of 'fuck this shit' breakdown.  For me, it's always come off as more metaphorical than Bang Bang.  I have days when I 'want to lead a long trail of destruction, and mow down any bullshit that confronts' me, but that's a million miles away from the disturbing wish for fame for mass murder that's contained in Bang Bang.

Bang Bang is such an angry and aggressive fucking song and I absolutely love it. Aggression is great and Green Day need more of it.

I think that's what I missed most in  the Trilogy. The songs were nice but where was all the anger? Horseshoes and Handgrenades was so aggressive and American Idiot was angry if not aggressive too. Less soft songs and more yelling please <3

Because I can't find the Unpopular Opinions thread: the WMUWSE video should never have existed.
Nor should that stereotypical poser bullshit of a JOS video, which is only slightly more able to be stomached.

But if a few million people think otherwise, maybe I'm in the wrong.

I fully agree. The dialogue in the WMUWSE completely ruined it. As far as JoS is concerned, I think it's decent, but I'm not very fond of the general style. Holiday and BoBD easily trump it.

Also, their Working Class Hero cover (and all their 21CB-era covers) is so good.

I've just dared to listen to Money Money 2020 for the first time ever with very low expectations. I have to say it's... actually pretty good. It's not my cup of tea and it certenly is NOT typical Green Day, but it still got some catchy riffs. Combine that with total humor (I laughed from time to time) and self-awareness and you get a good record, just brilliant in its own way. Spike is my favorite song from it.

I've seen that some people are still confused and can't tell for sure if they're Green Day, the reason for that is that Mike actually sings in most of the songs.

Agreed, most of Dookie is about frustration and boredom and wanting to break out of the life that causes it, I'd never considered Having A Blast to be actually literal.

I always thought Having A Blast was about how the scene is dying because people would rather destroy it with elitism than support acts that aren't underground. And to Beej it's like these people are either going to die from suicide or overdose as part of the EBPM, or live long enough to watch the scene fall apart anyway.

MoneyMoney 2020 introduced me to bands like Kraftwerk and Daft Punk, and eventually Devo....who are surprisingly as punk as a new wave band could be.

Mike's voice in Spastic Society =

Omg how many times do I have to see that horrendously-photoshopped rolling stone cover on social media.

My local morning news show called Green Day a 90's band and the really obnoxious traffic reporter who thinks she's just the funniest said that she thought their 2003 tour was a reunion tour.

Will be changing channels
