I've seen my concert in green day on the road for the last year & a half - hopefully not for too much longer - memories😊

Exactly. I get excited every time I see a Green Day shirt. I don't care how big of a fan they are, I just like that they're enough of a fan to wear a shirt. I'll to anyone in person about Green Day, even if it's just about Boulevard of Broken Dreams.

Same, even if it's just both agreeing that Green Day are cool it's great! Wouldn't cross my mind to try and test how big a fan they are.

I can see both sides to it, on one hand it's always cool to see people liking Green Day to any degree but it is annoying when someone turns out to not actually be as much a fan as you'd think, like I was wearing one of my GD shirts at uni once and someone came up to me saying they were a fan too, I asked them what they thought of the Trilogy and they had no idea what I was talking about, I explained and they said they only really knew the old classics like American Idiot and 21 Guns.

This confirms my theory that Trilogy caused very little harm to their reputation outside gdc :P

Yeah but then it's still like, who cares? Would be even cooler if they were as big a fan as you but there's nothing wrong with liking something more casually. Everyone has things they're a fan of but not a hardcore fan of.

Thinking about this I dispute that there's anyone who'd wear a Green Day shirt who only knows one song. Ramones or Rolling Stones shirts being worn by people who barely know who they are I get because they're iconic designs, but realistically Green Day shirts aren't cool enough to wear unless you like them :P

There's nothing actually wrong with just being a casual fan, it's just annoying to see someone and think "great, someone I can talk to about music" and then find you actually can't.

There are a ton of kids at my school who wear GD shirts, and I know that a lot of them have only listened to AI and 21 Guns. I'm not too pissed about it. Green Day is one of the biggest rock bands in the world, of course there will people who have only heard the hits wearing their shirt. However, I think that the communities that pride themselves on being less mainstream and more "fringe" don't deal with it well, like the hardcore punk (and maybe hardcore hip hop as well) fans and most of the metal community. A large part of their identity is based around being underground.

You can still talk to them about the Green Day they do know though. Every day you meet people who aren't a fan of them at all and it's not annoying, so can't complain on the rare occasion you do meet a fan just because they're not a big one :P

Really? Didn't know they were regarded highly enough by kids these days for that . I'd consider it a compliment to the band that they like those songs enough and consider them cool enough to wear a shirt with their name on it.

Them knowing very little doesn't really lend itself to conversation though, with people who aren't fans at all it's easy because I can just avoid the subject entirely but with people who know a small amount trying to talk to them usually just ends up with conversation trailing into nothing fairly quickly because I run out of things to say on such a small scope.

The only harm the trilogy did to green days reputation was make all of reddit think they are sell outs. Mainly because reddit has nothing better to do than to critique every little thing about the universe. Outside that you are totally right.

I guess it's not going to lead to as long a conversation. I'd still consider a bit of Green Day chit chat before moving on to something else or ending a conversation to be a good thing though, better than nothing.

Oh yeah! There are plenty of kids (including yours truly) who love to sport GD merch. I see GD wristbands, jacket patches, tees, etc. all the time passing through the hallways.

I met an 18 year old who'd never heard of them the other day, so this is good :D

That might be less rare than people wearing T-shirts withought being fans. I met like 4 people in gd t-shirts in all my life. Two of them were diehard fans.

It would be really cool to have Billie break out the harmonica again for #12.

I had a dream last night that Green Day covered Mambo Nr. 5.

It was weird but in my dream I thought it was still pretty awesome.

LOL That would be a weird crossover but they do have the horn section.
