jengd
I love 21cb video, think it's one of their best but also like the AI era ones. Don't like Stray Heart, it's just weird and not in a good way and don't much like the animated one. What was going on with Kill the DJ, one minute they're out tearing around on motorbikes which looked good and the next walking through a nightclub?? I quite like ones filmed in the studio but we got enough of those recently, I think we need something new and innovative which they have done before.
UNICORN VOMIT
Havent listened to GD for ages but had a need to listen to AI today - probably had to do with hubby reading another police shooting with the guy having his hands up

Second favourite son
22 hours ago, Hermione said: I think the Oh Love and Kill the DJ videos are ok, but nothing special and they could've been executed better. The main issue I have with Sam Bayer is the cringeworthy JOS and WMUWSE videos, awful awful awful. I do like the other AI videos, and they were just right for the album and the band at that time. But overall I'm not a big fan of the direction he takes Green Day in, it's too poser-ish. I really like the WMUWSE video - it's the only music video I've ever bought (rather than received in a bundle or whatever). I find it quite emotional and that it captures yet another interpretation that can be taken from the song. I don't dislike Oh Love or Kill the DJ, they could definitely have been done better though. The same goes for Stray Heart - I really like the concept, but they haven't quite pulled it off in a way that does the song justice. I can't say who I want to direct the new videos until I hear the new material. A docu-video could be kind of cool, one with studio footage and backstage/behind the scenes footage - we haven't got that this time around and it would be cool to see that accompany a song. But I also like videos with a story (hence why stray heart > Oh Love/Kill the DJ), and what that story is depends too much upon the song to call now.

RedundantIdiot
For the GD songs that don't have music videos, I often wonder what they would have done had they done videos for those songs. What about Scattered? Or Platypus?

Well, music videos are with regard to style tied in to the concept and general style of the album and the song they are made for (aside from the style of the director). The music videos of the Trilogy are - for better or for worse - very different from the AI videos, etcetera. I hope that Webb returns. He has done an excellent job with 21CB and I think they should draw inspiration from that video. Just having them perform the song is a bit boring. They need a remarkable and refreshing video to accompagny a kickass single. If they go with someone new, I think Marc Klasfeld has delivered that with the latest Sum video. Popular Post Beerjeezus
It's hard to believe some of the older songs, especially on Kerplunk and Nimrod were written by such a young person.

I was thinking about that too. Those old songs are amazing, not so much for simply listening too, but as a testament to the brilliance of Billie Joe. I can imagine him sitting in Algebra or Biology class, bored out of his skull, his mind and heart a million miles away, creating those wonderful lyrics. At my High School job I'm sensitive to "those" kids, who hate school, who get nothing from it, but who are loaded with talent and creativity and potential, that the required high school classes don't nurture. As a music teacher I'm lucky because I get to give those kids they wouldn't get in the classes they hate.
PurpleIron1039
TIL that Ted Nugent and Scott Ian like Green Day, which I find really cool because I greatly enjoy the music of both Anthrax and The Amboy Dukes. I've never really agreed with Green Day's politics, which I was reminded of by Billie's latest IG post. I actually thought that how Ted managed to put aside his political beliefs to propose working with GD, even though BJA turned him down, and how he admits that he likes them, even though that's not the most popular thing to say in much of the classic rock community, was quite mature of him. Well, maybe it's because, unlike a lot of GD fans (because many tend to be liberal and Ted does say some very inflammatory stuff sometimes), I actually like Ted Nugent. I think that the way the media treats him is a bit like how they like to sensationalize and take Dave Mustaine's words out of context to get more clicks. I've watched interviews with both, and I actually think that they seem like nice people. Getting back to Green Day, I almost feel certain that the album will be at least fairly political, considering the amount of politically-charged stuff that Billie has posted on social media in the last month alone.
Dakke
With Billie's political Instagram posts lately (Orlando, Dallas, Trump), it's safe to say we might thematically get something in the vein of 21CB. Heck, if they'd reissue 21CB now, it would sell like hot cakes. Songs like 21CB, East Jesus Nowhere and Know Your Enemy are now maybe even more relevant than they were in 2009. That being said, the sound will be rawer ala Nimrod, maybe with some Warning-like folk pop influences in certain songs and with a very loose concept. Libertine Angel
I don't reckon it'll be as grand and dramatic as 21CB, I think we'll get something more raw, angry and generally fed up with shit.

PurpleIron1039
I was really surprised when Billie posted about watching Pantera: Behind the Music. I just never really fully digested the fact that he likes Pantera because it just seems so odd, because of some of the questionable things Phil Anselmo has said in the past and because Pantera just always seemed to present this very Southern aura (e.g. Dime's Confederate flag guitar), and we know that Billie's not the biggest fan of Lynyrd Skynyrd, at least. I guess that it's what I do with Green Day, though--separate the musicians from the music and enjoy the latter for what it is, without taking the members' political views into consideration.

I feel like all musicians watch each other's "Behind the Music" episodes as a way to get the info on each other without having to interact But in all seriousness, despite Phil being an asshat from start to finish, Dimebag was able to make friends with pretty much anybody so I'm not surprised if BJ was a sucker for his charm.
