I'm not trolling. It's straight up annoying.

There's a difference between annoying fan entitlement and giving opinions about their possible future we're speculating about.

Read Pikachu's old blog post on fan entitlement and how frustrating it is.

It (clearly) isn't an example of fan entitlement though. Save it for a genuine occurrence of it.

I hadn't heard that! Thanks for sharing! More and more I'm starting to think I'd be OK with the new album taking on a true Nimrod/Warning era vibe. The trilogy had a touch of Warning, but not enough of it to make it good. The songwriting is some of my favorite.

Well, anyway, I agree too, I would be happy with anything that doesn't have the sound quality of the Trilogy, but the Warning/Nimrod vibe is great and is the quintessential Green Day sound for me, so I wouldn't be suprised if there were a few songs similar in style on the new album. Throw in a loose concept, some AI epicness and beautiful 21CB vocals, and a piano ballad, and you've got a Grammy winner for sure :) Not fan entitlement, just opinion, since everything's up for speculation anyway.

No more AI, no more 21CB please!

Two albums are more than enough.

It would be my wish for Tre to get behind the mic again; but its all most impossible to see it happening !.

So new Green Day album in the fall, and Geezer out at some point later this year... ya know what would be fucking awesome? Billie Joe hosts an episode of SNL with Green Day as the musical guest.

Yes! Have you heard the original version? I think I prefer the International Superhits one but the rough one that was a Waiting b-side is cool as well

Totally agree! One of my joint favourites. I love the wordplay in All the Time.

Can't believe I never knew these were different versions, love this, thanks for sharing.

Yes! I loved All the Time growing up, but it took years to fully pull it apart and understand what was actually taking place in the song.
I never heard alcoholism/drug abuse described in such an accurate yet round-about way. And that in itself describes how easy it is to fall off the wagon. It's like he first starts with social drinking/other, and all of a sudden he finds himself breaking resolutions to quit and lying to himself about how it makes him feel.

so in regards to that whole Maria demo version... the version from the waiting single is actually what I'm more familiar with. I remember ordering the waiting 7" when I was 14 and I was super pissed because the mail carrier didn't deliver the package on time because my dog was on the front porch, and I paid extra for faster shipping and that totally ruined it. also, my dog was super sweet and also super old at the time and totally harmless. anyways, rambling aside, the demo version is awesome, so much more energy. I have International Superhits but never listen to it because I'd much rather listen to an album than a collection of singles, so I had to listen to that version earlier to remind myself of how it sounded, and it was pretty lame, slower and kinda lifeless. the demo was so much better.

Today in the gym the S&C coach put his iPod on, and just as I was getting to the tough part of a set of RDLs Basket Case came on.  It made me smile, which gave me the strength to finish the set and made the endorphin rush even better :P. Never knew he was into Green Day.

Just listened to the non-album track Too Much Too Soon (1st time I've heard it)- does anyone else think that it sounds similar to Murder City?

I can see where you're coming from, but I don't really think they are that similar.  The pre-choruses have some similarity in terms of style and song structure, but aside from that the chord progressions are different and the general feel of the songs, at least for me, is hugely different.  Both are awesome songs though, and have been my favourite songs at separate times.

Just a sheer thought of people passing a fanfic off as John Kiffmeyer's bio back in the day cracks me up.

I've gotta see is!

Quote

Al was born John Kiffmeyer, a young boy who ran away from home at a young age. Due to unknown causes, he had an accident just outside the city of El Sobrante, California, leaving him unconscious. John awoke, losing his memory from what seemed to be a fall. He found himself in a strange area, near a sign that read "El Sobrante." Still recovering from his injuries, it appeared to say, "Al Sobrante" to John, and so he mistook that to be his name.

Finding nothing for him here, John ...now Al, continued to run until he came to a house on a hill. There he met a boy named Frank, playing his drumset in his garage. Amazed with his talent, Al begged Frank to teach him how to play. Since Al knew nothing about his origin or where he came from, Frank let him live in his garage. Years later, Al was playing Frank's drumset when he was discovered by two boys who, ironically, were looking for a drummer. Since Frank was out practicing with his band, and he had a drumset over there to play, Al packed up Frank's own drumset and went along with the boys. Together, they formed a band called Sweet Children, who eventually changed their name to Green Day.

Because Al did not like sunlight very much, Green Day always played indoors, where it was dark. Then one day, the boys were making plans to play a gig in the town of El Sobrante. Al froze, confused about what he was hearing. Billie and Mike explained to him that El Sobrante was a nearby town. Al became very anxious to play there, hoping that he would find answers to who he was and where he came from.

After their show was over in El Sobrante, Al ran out the back door, searching the night streets for a sign. Hours later, he came to an abandoned house. The name on the mailbox said "Kiffmeyer." ...Could this be what is left of his home?

Making sure no one was around to see him, Al broke into the house, hoping to find answers. He found what he was looking for in an old, untouched bedroom. There, he found a picture of him as a young boy, on the back was written "John, 1981." Finally, he knew who he was. He was John Kiffmeyer. From that day on, he went under both names, switching between the two for fun.

When Green Day became rather popular throughout the West Coast, Billie & Mike decided to go on tour. Al/John decided that going on tour would be too much for him, not wanting to leave the security of his old house. So he told the boys that he was going to college, and left without a trace to the old Kiffmeyer house. They say he still lives there today, only coming out at night, for he hates the sunlight. Sometimes he goes to night shows in Berkeley, playing with different underground bands, never rearing his head in fear that he may be tempted to leave El Sobrante, his home.

Let's talk about how great JAR is. I've always loved this song since I got the Angus soundtrack back in 97 (or maybe 98). great bass into, very energetic drumming, huge guitar sound, nice solo, and I really like the vocals.

I knew it came out between Dookie and Insomniac and I also knew that they demoed it for Dookie, but I never looked into the recording specs until yesterday. I assumed before that it may have been recorded during the Dookie sessions but left off the album, but that's not the case because JAR was recorded by Kevin Army and Dookie was recorded by Neil King and mixed by Jerry Fin. Kevin Army recorded Insomniac, so i guess it's possible that JAR was recorded early in the Insomniac sessions because it was mixed by Kevin Army and not Jerry Finn. The drums and the bass are a little thinner than the Finn mix on Insomniac, but the guitars sound great, they have just enough high end in them so  they aren't lost in the mix, and I love how loud they are

I love the fact that J.A.R is not on insomniac , it's sort of an angry concept album and J.A.R is very relaxed song .I'm a big fan of insomniac , it's a deep, serious album but if i would put J.A.R on any album it would be pre-Dookie stuff. or i wouldn't put it on any album at all.

On the other hand,it could make a great ending to an album "All i wanna do is.." that would be a cool ending. But still,i love that it's not on any album.

Mike's songwriting is also great.

The drum sound on the studio recording of JAR is awful. I never noticed until someone on here mentioned it and now it's all I can hear... good song though

I wonder why they  stopped playing  21 Guns live. I find it overplayed, in fact I thought it was a good idea to take a break from it but this weekend I went to a friend's birthday party and someone was just blasting it when I entered the house and that moment made me realize how powerful it is. It must be super awesome live.
