I had to take away all my Green Day posters from my room walls. So sad

I'm so sorry, that's so sad :( I had to do the same last week, it's kind of heartbreaking

I'm stupidly tired and blasting Nimrod stupidly loud because I spent the night subjecting myself to Sandinista and need something to get it out of my head. It seems to be working.

Rotting is the second best song on Shenanigans, second only to the great You Lied. Never considered what it'd be like live but I think it'd be really cool, I'd like to see Billie sing it before Good Riddance.

How can that be when Suffocate and On The Wagon are on Shenanigans?

They're up there as well along with Desensitized and Do Da Da. All very good :P

I'll throw in Scumbag and HaHa Your Dead as well.  Damn good album.

So basically the entire album is class  it's probably my favorite next to Nimrod, which is where most of those b-sides are from anyway right? I always wondered which ones were from Warning though...

Yeah Suffocate, Desensitized, You Lied, Sick of Me, Rotting and Espionage are all originally Nimrod, the best stuff. Scumbag with its excellent lyrics by Mike and the Outsider cover are Warning, not bad either.

Interesting. I thought Scumbag and Outsider were recorded during the Nimrod sessions as I remember listening to them nonstop prior to Warning. The sound also seems distinctly Nimrod to me. Were they released as Warning B Sides or is my memory just blending eras at this point? I am sure I could easily Google the facts but I will take your word as you would know better than I.

I like your call of Desensitized, Suffocate, etc. as being some of their best material. They were incredibly prolific and creative during this era. I have been listening to a playlist of my top GD songs lately and Scattered, All the Time, Uptight, Jinx, Haushinka, etc. are on heavy rotation. When you listen to these songs you realize how incredibly proficient they were musically (harmonies during Scattered, bass lines during Jinx) during this period. The lyrics (i.e. the Grouch) were superb. And while it felt like they had been on the scene forever, I think they were 27 at the time, maybe 26 or even 25 when recording and even younger when writing.

I know we as hardcore fans recognize it, but for such a huge band, I feel they are terribly underrated at times. The Nimrod era was still early in their career arc, but the music still continues to amaze me every day. I can say the same about each one of their albums, but Nimrod flew under the radar at the time, and is arguably their strongest work to date. Other albums were more polished (AI, 21CB), or immediate (Insomniac, while a bit of a Dookie hangover, still immediately punched you in the jaw with its grit and angst, and Dookie was a splash of cold water during the at-times sleepwalk that was grunge).

There is so much to love about the band. I can't wait to hear what they're currently working on.

Billie Joe turns 44 this year. When I started on GDA he turned 32. This year will be my 30th birthday. What the fuck.

We have a thread for you?

Did anyone have issues buying/renting HLAHG from Google? I'm trying to watch it on my Roku TV and it says it can't be played due to licensing issues.

Side note, I was 12 when I got into green day and 14 when I first joined the forum, now I'm 22! Jesus, Andres I practically missed out on watching you grow up

I know I'm late, but I thought You Lied and Rotting were originally from the Insomniac sessions? The credits in the Shenanigans liner notes match with those for Insomniac.

Ahh I was only going by which album's singles the songs were b sides of so I'm probably wrong! I wonder is there actually an accurate list of where all the Shenanigans songs were originally from?

Not as good as I once was, can't pull all of these from memory :P

Suffocate - Time of Your Life Single (1998)
Desensitized - Time of Your Life Single (1998)
You Lied - Time of Your Life Single (1998)
Outsider - Warning Single (2000)
Don't Wanna Fall in Love - Geek Stink Breath Single (1995)
Espionage - Hitchin' a Ride Single (1997)
I Want to Be on TV - Geek Stink Breath Single (1995)
Scumbag - Warning Single (2000)
Tired of Waiting for You - Basket Case Single (1994)
Sick of Me - Hitchin' a Ride Single (1997) [Originally titled "Sick"]
Rotting - Time of Your Life Single (1998)
Do Da Da - Brain Stew/Jaded Single (1996)
On the Wagon - Basket Case Single (1994)

These tracks have been repeated on soundtracks, deluxe versions of the albums, and again on later singles, but these should all be the first appearance for each song :D

Are we only counting official ones or have you got so lax as to forget the one in the Dookie demo sessions? :P

I'm only counting official releases... I have no clue when those demos first surfaced on the web, so I wouldn't be able to pin a "release" year to it if we counted that version.

So I was at Walmart the other day and noticed American Idiot on the shelf!  I looked at it and sure enough they carry edited version of american idiot now.  When did this happen and how does everyone feel about it?   Also, I've got Like Sunday Like Rain on pause in the next room.  So far...it's okay.
