Random Green Day Thoughts

It wasn't pulled after the DUI, that Q&A was after the DUI but the song was pulled in 2002 and he got the DUI in 2003. Since the band had happily both recorded it and planned to release it (and they're likely not silly enough to actually think that listening to that song would cause someone to drink drive) I'd assume that like Tim said it was only pulled due to fear of the possibility of a lawsuit from some fool trying to palm responsibility for their own actions off on the band. Whether that was instigated by the band themselves or someone at the label or whatever I don't know but since it was so close to being on there it's even in the artwork I'd guess the latter.

Anyone else remember when the only good quality version of the song that was available had insults directed at the person who ran greenday.net recorded over the top of the beginning and end of it as some sort of revenge against him by the person who'd put out the recording for unknown reasons? You had to choose between that and one of dreadful quality.

That's just really fucking weak. Blaming Green Day for someone's DUI would be like blaming Marilyn Manson for Columbine. Oh, wait.

Speaking of Walking Contradiction, I love it. Not even so much the overall sound, but the lyrics are easily some of the cleverest Billie has ever written.

Yeah I love the lyrics! They're so clever and entertaining they make it my favourite song on Insomniac.

It's hard to pick my favourite song on Insomniac, but Walking Contradiction is definitely a contender.

I kind of don't like to pick it as my favourite because it's so different to the rest of the album . Great song but isn't a good example to represent the album as a whole which is brilliant in itself. But at the same time it makes it easier to pick out, while all the wonderful fast and angry songs that make the album what it is are more similar to each other and harder to choose between.

I think the Mother Mary video is one of the best they've ever done. I love the bizarre camera angles. You can actually see the hair on his hands.

Yeah the lyrics are great and the music video is one of my favorites too.

Stuart and The Ave is your favorite.

There, I did it for you :D

That's a contender too, but Stuck With Me, Westbound Sign and Geek Stink Breath are in the running too.

You could still travel if you were really committed. Think of the poor South American or Asian fans that missed out all-together :(

It's not like I'm not committed to them. I just turned 18, I don't drive nor have a car, and the closest they play if not florida is Georgia, and how am I supposed to get up there? Like when they came south, I was probably 16 at the time, so yeah. And I have insanely strict Spanish parents so it's not like I could grab friends and adventure to a different state for a concert

Oh well, hopefully they come back soon

:ga: Florida Fans ftw

yeah I dont know either, it appears that most bands worth mentioning are avoiding us! I think the last time they came here was for the Breakdown tour, and I wasn't even allowed to go

Whatttt. I went to the August show in '09 at the American Airlines Arena in Miami. That's the only show I've been to since my parents deemed me "too young" to see them when they came on the AI tour. Then again I was only 8 at the time, so maybe they were right  But the 21st CB show Billie mooned us and his ass was on the big screen, so that was fun

Has there been any update on how Jason is doing with his cancer?

Not yet, I'm sure it'll be posted about in the thread for it/in some prominent place when there is though.

Every time I see 39/Smooth written, I read it in the misaligned font, even though it's the same as everything else in the sentence.

Can I take a moment to appreciate Nimrod? I love that they progressed with this album and experimented with different sounds but still maintained that raw and gritty attitude in their tracks. It also has some of the best lyrics Billie's ever written.

"Come together like a foot in a shoe, only this time I think I stuck my foot in my mouth." - one of my personal favorites.

I actually think the lyrics are better on Warning, AI and 21CB, but it still has some great lyrics:

"Where do we go from here and what did we do with the directions. Promise me no dead end streets and I promise we'll have the road"

I wasn't trying to say Nimrod had better lyrics than their other albums. Of course, there are fantastic lyrics in American Idiot and in almost all of their albums too. I was just mentioning the fact that it has some of my personal favorite lyrics. I really love the cleverness and sense of humor featured in that album.

There are great lyrics on all their albums, even the Trilogy has some. The Trilogy has more bad than good, but it still has some good ones.

I especially like that last part.

And Nimrod has Scattered. One of my all time favorites. And Redundant.

I agree! Scattered is fucking amazing. Definitely one of their best tracks.

One of the most sincere songs ever written.

Ah, to be 14, to wait for pirate copies of Nimrod to appear at the local flea market, to play Jazz Jackrabbit and have a D in math.

It's funny how that was my experience at 14 as well :D except the first Nimrod I found was an official copy at the flea market (but it was $0.25, had no case and couldn't play the last 5 tracks  )

Green Day connects so many people, and usually fans have gone through similar situations in life. Even though this is a tiny example, it's still pretty cool.

Agree. And that's an interesting coincidence. Know what would be fun? If we'd both write that out as blog posts. I haven't seen an on-topic blog post on here in ages. :)

Just realised my 20th Green Day anniversary is in ten days. :o
