Anaïs.
Anyone can write a boring ass nine minute song. Letterbomb holiday and american are the only songs i like. Breakdown was ok but boring. Also didnt like how they think theyre big musical geniouses and tre refers to billie as lennon n mccartney in one. Ive been a fan of green day for twenty yrs but come on. And by the way who can actually follow the story in either american idiot or breakdown without the band explaining it.1. On the contrary, anyone can write a three-chord pop song with teenage-diary quality lyrics. Writing a nine-minute song with the cohesiveness and the quality lyrics of "Jesus of Suburbia" is damned hard. 2. "Genius" is not spelled that way. And whatever Tre thinks of Billie's ability has nothing to do with the quality of their music. 3. AI is actually very easy to follow for a rock opera. 21CB, as has been stated time and again, does not have a narrative as such.

November's Storms
Guyliner.nuff said. As a rule I never respect any argument that ends with those words. Are you suggesting guyliner made them make a better album with AI?
Morning_zombie
I hate new sound, it seems that they made guitars even weaker for some songs (8th awenue serenade, missing you, sweets 16 - are TOO weak) I hope they will finish their remixes with "loud guitars". But surprisingly I can't stop listening to the trilogy...

Spike
Guyliner.nuff said. Obvious troll is obvious. No im saying green day as a whole through that period holds no interest for me And your argument for that is their use of make up rather than ANYTHING to do with the music? Disagreeing with your dislike for American Idiot, especially because your justification for disliking it was that they wore guyliner, means we're acting like we're in the band? That's... wow. You're entitled to your opinion but that doesn't mean you have a sound argument.

Gwen Stacy
I feel like the Trilogy is Green Day's White Album. In both cases there are songs in the final product that are great additions to the band's work as a whole and that I love to pieces, and then there are the songs that never need to have seen the light of day. If they would've cut the fat out and structured it better, this could have been one hell of an album. But the half-baked songs are always going to drag down the final product. The difference is that the White Album had three very talented songwriters, while the Trilogy had one churning out the same number of songs. Thus The White Album only has a couple of serious missteps ("Wild Honey Pie", "Revolution 9") while the Trilogy is full of them. Also, The White Album is genuinely experimental, full of different sounds and styles to keep the listener's interest; no such luck with the Trilogy. I feel like the Trilogy only had a few serious missteps (Nightlife, Sex Drugs and Violence), while the rest of the songs that aren't great (Carpe Diem, Baby Eyes, Fell For You) are just bland. Not terrible, but not great, just blah. In contrast I feel like The White Album jumps from brilliant to unlistenable. Experimental sure, interesting? No. Just frustrating. Hermione
Hate to break it to you, but 2004-2010 was more "Green Day being Green Day" than the Trilogy ever was. AI and 21CB represent genuine artistic growth; Uno represents them trying to go back to something they're not anymore.Nah, both times were equally Green Day being Green Day. Just because you don't like something or don't think it's as good as other stuff they've done it doesn't mean it's any "less Green Day" or that it was any less inspired. It just means you don't like it as much. What were they trying to go back to? It doesn't sound like any of their other albums (and they never said they were "going back to their roots" or trying to sound like Dookie, that was just made up in a crappy article and then perpetuated by wishfully thinking fans). Growth doesn't have to mean going in more complex direction, it can mean going in a simpler direction sometimes too. They did 3 albums with a retro rock and roll feel, sounds different to anything they've done before to me.
