Heart Like A Hand Grenade

I enjoyed the film, but I don't like how it was presented.

I'm sorry if I seem like a bit of a jerk, but I have to pick apart some of your analogy

All of the songs were already there. It barely showed the writing process, didn't show any outtake pieces besides When It's Time, nothing about the B-sides, nothing was different in the demos.

John wasn't present and filming during the writing process (for the most part). We know that Homecoming wasn't finished at the time (all section we're written, but not arranged). Perhaps he was absent during this process. We also know that some of the songs took a long time to write, and were brought into the studio as a finished product.

How do we even know there was any outtakes from the sessions John filmed other than When It's Time? I don't think there are any. As for B-sides, Too Much Too Soon and Favorite Son were both from the C&V sessions. Mike recorded Govenator on his own. As for Shoplifter, you're correct on that one as it was recorded in those sessions, but it was never mentioned.

You can't blame the film for the demos being the same as the finished product...

What an odd movie, especially the whole JOS part in the beginning... I don't get it.

I think the short film that aired on FUSE in 2004/2005 is 20x better.

That was very funny because no one around me knew what was going on. We all waited through the credits to see if there was anything special, but the movie just started again.

Were we at the same theater? Tower City?

I do love how there's a demo up to the end of the first chorus of Extraordinary Girl.

I read that the original was 3 hours long and this one was an hour 40, weren't you there though in 2009?

I don't remember the original being 3 hours. I remember it being a little long, but not 3 hours. But i'm a terrible person to be certain because I'm really bad at remembering details. J'net and Beth (nobodylikesyou) would really be the best people to share any differences if they spotted any.

I read a review of the 2009 version a few years ago and reviewer said the movie was around 130 mins long

I wonder if this is related to how some theaters listed a 120 minute run time, when it sounds like it was, what, 90 or so (waiting until DVD so idk)?

The vimeo version is 1 hour and 36 minutes.  Or if you really want to be precise, 1 hour 36 minutes and 44 seconds.

Agree 100% the FUSE (I thought it was VH1  ) one was better.  I've decided it's because this film has ZERO narrative.  Like, there's no direction whatsoever, it's just a random collection of scenes that go in order of the album songs, but that's about the only thing tying the film together.

It didn't even do that right, it started with Jesus of Suburbia and American Idiot was later, I think last, but I don't remember.

When they were doing the head in a box thing they seemed like they didn't want to discuss Holiday.  So they didn't.    Perhaps when they release this movie again in eleven years they wil add Holiday to it.

:D this got me laughing a lot

The book hasn't come out yet, also the movie, TV series, coloring book...

I would LOVE for them to make it into a novel.  And movie.  Coloring book too, but I don't know about TV series.

Was anyone at the Alpharetta, Georgia showing Thursday?  Just curious if there were any GDA folks there.   Probably not, because the theater was pretty much empty.  Very sad turn out.  It was me (I'm 30) and a few groups of 20-somethings, and then a few teens with parents.

Yes, I had a black Rock Hall induction shirt on.

So, the general consensus is that HLAHG isn't that good as a Rockumentary but is good for people who want a mediocre film featuring the band and American Idiot performances that everyone has seen nearly half a dozen times on YouTube.

My local theater was nice and saved the poster for me even though I was unable to attend, but I got it today! This pretty damn big!

I just realized that this is the first time I've ever bought a Green Day related something blindly and wound up thinking "That was a waste of money."  I bought the VIMEO movie figuring if I watch it twice it's worth not renting, but I'm not even compelled to watch it twice.  I've never felt that way about anything Green Day before.

More importantly.  Are you a dad?  Did your fiance have a boy or a girl?  Is there a name?

These are the most important questions!!
