Totally agree.  I wanted more writing/recording and storytelling, but all we got was farting, dirty jokes and Tre and Mikes naughty bits.  And live performances.   I enjoyed it a whole lot but there should have been more seriousness about the music in it.

boo! All I hoped for was that we'll see a lot of studio footage and hear as few bad jokes as possible. :(

That's a relief! Curious to know in what way it was not as impressive then.

Even smaller than Billie's.

So still no one found out about any of the showings in UK, Australia, Italy, etc?

unfortunately, no. :(

You have to love work at home, I just got paid to watch Heart Like a Hand Grenade.

For anyone else that watched it on Vimeo, did the audio match up with the video?  I felt like I was watching an old Japanese Godzilla film.

For all the fangirls out there, Billie looks fuckin' awesome!  There are plenty of scenes with sweat just dripping off of him, so it is worth the purchase just for that.

Forgot to add, the hot tub scene is disappointing.

Like alot of other people have already said, the film focused too much on performances.  Also, there was nothing insightful about the studio time they showed.  It was really just banter.  Someone had said that they mixed in the album for the performances.  They clearly did that for Jesus of Surburbia, but the other performances sounded like live ones to me.

There were a few interesting things to watch, like there is a scene where Billie is singing Give Me Novacaine acapella.  I just found it interesting to see him keeping time with his hand.  But there really not any insights into the creative process, just some interesting things to see.

Someone said that it showed that Billie was the serious one.  I did not get that impression.  I thought Mike was more serious and Billie was just a tiny, adorable goofball.  Tre is just a very, very strange man.

Overall, this film is 10 million times better than Live Freaky Die Freaky.  But, the best way I can describe it is that it felt alot longer than 1 hour and 36 minutes.

Question for those that have seen it.  What was up with those strange dancers during Jesus of Suburbia?  How did that tie in?

The main thing I remember of descriptions of the original version was that it apparently had a lot of weird stuff in it, like strange artistic sequences etc, so lot of the time it wasn't like an ordinary documentary. Was there not much of that? I wonder if there was less of it to make room for the live footage, or if it was just made more straightforward in general?

Also someone needs to tell me what's disappointing about the hot tub scene, surely a glimpse of nude Mike was all that was promised?

I saw it in Berkeley last night.

I too thought too many final performances. I remember seeing the MTV version, and there were more interviews with the band members on the couch. Mike talking about "being married at the beginning of the record, divorced by the end." I would have liked to have heard more of their thoughts on the writing process. I would have also liked to have seen more of how the songs came to be. Parts where Billie Joe goes "I have a great idea for an acapella part" and it is the beginning of Homecoming, is nice. But would have liked to see more of stuff like that.

Did anyone go to the LA premier and see John's Q&A? Any questions answered?

I forget who I was arguing with but someone swore up and down When It's Time was from Cigarettes And Valentines I think this just proved them wrong

Nah there was still some weird shit. The whole JOS sequence was vey very strange. As for the hot tub scene, it was still quite naughty. Mike and Tre a both nude, although only Mike's genitals were on display. He swims on his back and you see it, as when Tre messes with him, you can see it.

It does feel slightly more concise compared to the original, with more of a conventional feel to it. The original had some of that short film based on the album edited into some parts, but all of it was removed for some reason.

 men and their weird body parts..

I guess those animated/artistic parts were removed because they might have slowed down the movie's natural flow.

Thanks for the info! Good to know there's still some of the more unusual stuff in there.

I did enjoy hearing Billie talk about how people complain about this album or that album.  He made a lot of jokes about how Warning sucked, and how Dookie and Nimrod were the greatest.  And it's true.  on GDA, that's all we do.  complain about Mikes sideburns and how American Idiot isn't as good as Dookie.  But Billie's hot though.  Haha.
