Michael Mayer confirms that Billie will play the role of St Jimmy in American Idiot movie

So, we got When It's Time for the musical, what if they throw in a new song for the movie? :D

If this movie does actually go ahead it is likely another soundtrack will have to be recorded. That will be the 3rd time Green Day have recorded and released American Idiot, which is a very strange thought, as for another new song, why not :)

was just thinking - it'd be interesting to see how much effort he will put into playing St. Jimmy.

because it's a character he created, he can pretty much act however he wanted to really.

we've all seen his previous acting skills, so i'm looking forward to see the difference between those roles and this role.

I'd assume it's going to be a bit like he acted in the musical. Either way it would be better than anyone else playing the role.

Am I the only one who doesn't want this to become a thing? AI had its moment but I think it's beyond time to let it go. I think putting this movie out will just seem like they're coasting on the success of a decade old album.

Billie is so St. Jimmy no one would be better in this role.
They could put Tre and Mike to! Maybe Tre as a girl - he's perfect as a girl - he born to be a girl.

Why would it be like the musical - a musical is over the top acting.

He was definitely born to be a man, but that doesn't mean that he can't rock a dress.

I really don't want to see Mike and Tre in it. I feel like it would take away from the whole thing. Billie of course. He was in the musical and really became the part of St.Jimmy. He is that character, it's only right that he plays him.

The character in general will resemble the musical, but toned down and developed for a movie.

Sometimes I feel like they're left out and I really hate that.

Too bad, this isn't Heart Like a Hand Grenade, Michael Mayer or whateer his name is is working on this. If he could make a musical out of this, he can do the movie. They may have pushed it back, but now that Green Day's on break, I can see this being done in two years.

I can't think of anything I want less. It has its place in history but I draw the line at the musical. It's totally outdated now, and personally I think there's a risk of this sullying the album's legacy. Especially if Billie is in the lead role.

Not only is the general population sick and tired of "emo, guyliner Billy Joe", it will seem like they're selling out "once again"

Well, there is that. Not that what they do should be dictated by people's inaccurate perception, but even beyond that I just have no interest in this idea.

Same, but still - I'm not sure GDC alone can make it a box office hit

Haha, yeah, no way. I doubt it'll be intended as a box office hit, but if it is I doubt that'd go too well.

i wanted it to happen like 5 years ago.

i think the time has come and gone for it, but i would still definitely love to see it be made.

Utterly agreed. The fact that so many people in this thread genuinely think that Billie can handle himself in a leading dramatic role goes beyond baffling and becomes outright frustrating to me. While I don't know if it'd *ruin* the album's reputation (The Who bounced back nicely from the Tommy film), it couldn't be good for it. The album was meant to be heard, not seen, and the musical's extra songs and characters dilute the story's impact to the point of disaster. I would accept another disaster like the Trilogy to stop this from happening.
