blueshadows
Someone on a Broadway board mentioned having read a script by Michael Mayer 6 months ago and says it is an ambitious 2.5 hours project. Not sure how accurate but if true then it sounds really promising. The person mentioned some more details about it. here: http://www.broadwayworld.com/board/readmessage.php?thread=1096441&dt=21# Edited October 8, 2016 by blueshadows

He did the job pretty well. I can't comment on the whole movie as I have not seen it. But even after seeing the trailer, I can comment that Billie can act and I hope he does some lead roles.

He did a really good job of it, and this will be a film of the musical so I guess not too different. It's not really the same as a normal acting role as it's mostly a musical performance and it's basically just a bigger version of his own on stage persona (like when he performs St Jimmy with Green Day), so it comes to him more naturally. Can't get a much better role for him than a singing character that he created and is part himself! There's time for him to do things other than music, experiencing other things is part of life and if anything helps add to his creativity.

I have seen many footages of Billie playing St. Jimmy and he was good. Now I realized that this would be more like musical not "normal" movie. For me he's just not a good actor and that was my point. I'm not like "Billie should only play in Green Day". I really appreciate that he's doing something else and his other ideas are not related to Green Day (I'm really greatful that Green Day as band isn't part of Foreverly). I just think that he shouldn't play in movies but that's only my opinion

I still enjoy watching him whether he's good or not though , plus it seems like he really enjoys it and gets a lot out of it, so I have no objection.
Popular Post stories and songs
He kinda blew me away playing St. Jimmy on Broadway. He was very emotive, and added a lot of little details to the performance that fleshed the character out. And for the singing side of the performance, he was amazing. I went with my parents and my mom was thinking he wouldn't stack up well next to classically trained Broadway singers, but to this day she talks about how incredible he sounded. I think it's cool that he likes trying other creative outlets, whether it is acting or just trying out a different genre like he did with Norah Jones. I love that he's open to trying new things and doesn't limit himself to staying in one box. He's super talented, so he definitely should keep trying new things.

I really hope they use just the album tracks and not add in any Breakdown or RevRad songs.

Of course it's changed hands so many times in the last 12 years who knows what to expect. I'm also torn on the format. I know it's probably going to be a kick-booty musical, but part of me wants it to be a straight up narrative. Kind of like when they were making the first Scoobie Doo film and I wanted it to be a dark, gritty film with a real greyhound that didn't talk or anything. Would have been a cool film but I knew it would never happen. Perhaps American Idiot will be kind of like The Wall. Or it will do something totally new and exciting. Either way, you better believe I'll be in theaters opening day, and early!

It is the most exciting show I've ever seen. 21 guns is one of the best scenes in broadway ever. I also saw the production, saw it on tour (so no Billie in it ), i enjoyed the show due to the amazing songs (obviously!) and also for the nice staging and lighting. However I did feel the show is a bit thin on the plot side. So I think a shorter show would make the story even more so. But that's just my opinion. Also Broadway shows are expensive to create and run, which makes the tickets rather expensive. Broadway shows are also typically around 2 hours to 2.5 hours so I think it's not really possible to be shorter than it already is/was and charge an amount of money that would make it profitable. Popular Post desertrose
Green Day give update on ‘surreal, offensive’ ‘American Idiot’ movie Last month, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong confirmed to NME that the long-awaited film had been given the ‘green light’ by US network HBO, and that he’d be reprising his role at St Jimmy from the Broadway and West End musical. The movie adaptation of their seminal 2004 politically-charged album has been long-rumoured since the records release, before reports emerged in 2011 of Tom Hanks wanting to produce it, before the film was finally confirmed in 2013 and playwright Rolin Jones revealed he was ‘finishing up’ the script back the following year. Now, the band have given an update on how the project is taking shape. “HBO is into it, and now we’re dealing with a re-write right now and it’s going good,” Billie Joe Armstrong told NME. “I think it’s going to be a lot different from the musical. It’s kind of, more surreal but I think there’s going to be parts of it that might offend people – which is good. I think it’s a good time to offend people.” Armstrong continued: “I think there’s just going to be a lot of imagery that we couldn’t pull off in the musical in the stage version. You know, I don’t want to give away too much, but it will be shocking in a way which makes you think.” http://www.nme.com/news/music/green-day-give-update-on-surreal-offensive-american-idiot-movie-1860372#lgwhJtcHWCY6HUel.99
St. Jonny
Awesome! Can't wait. Shocking, and offensive is what I like in a movie. I wonder how much younger they will make him look if that is even possible.
Beerjeezus
Well I hope he's not kidding This can be either very good or very corny and even though I keep going on and on about how they should stop milking ai, I'm hoping for the best
That Dude
The album is a masterpiece. The musical did it justice and I hope that the movie is treated the same way. It needs to hit hard like the album. It would be nice if Tre and Mike were in it as well but not totally needed.
Hermione
Great! Wasn't particularly excited for just a movie version of the musical (other than seeing Billie in it ), this sounds much more interesting!
RougeRogue
See...I can't decide if they're making the musical a movie or doing something new for no reason. The word choice in that article makes it sound very different, but to me, the most logical step is to do the musical as a movie. In other words, what I'm saying is, are the keeping the Johnny/Will/Tunny storyline or making something new? I think the latter choice is a mistake and highly unnecessary. I'm fully expecting a Rent-esque adaptation but to me they aren't being very clear when talking about it.
Heather.
I wonder if "shocking" means like Jesus/religious imagery gone wrong---kinda like that art we saw of BJA on the cross or whatever. IDK, it's cool but I'd rather see something that focuses more on the emotion and less on the shock-value.
