Michael Mayer confirms that Billie will play the role of St Jimmy in American Idiot movie

Someone on a Broadway board mentioned having read a script by Michael Mayer 6 months ago and says it is an ambitious 2.5 hours project. Not sure how accurate but if true then it sounds really promising.

The person mentioned some more details about it.

HBO means boobs. However I don't like the idea of Billie acting again... He's not a good actor imo and I think he should focus on music.

He is a great actor, I have not seen Ordinary World, but in the trailer you can see he can act pretty well.

I would love to see him doing some movies.

He was very good in Ordinary World.  I agree with you, I would love to see him do more.  I think he shows alot of potential, especially in more comedic roles.  He was excellent in Haunted

I would love to see Ordinary World, but in the trailer you can see he really fits the character of an ordinary man, living a simple life, a kid and a wife.

He did the job pretty well. I can't comment on the whole movie as I have not seen it.

But even after seeing the trailer, I can comment that Billie can act and I hope he does some lead roles.

He was good, you will enjoy the film.  It is really cute.

Have you seen any footage of him playing St Jimmy on Broadway? He did a really good job of it, and this will be a film of the musical so I guess not too different. It's not really the same as a normal acting role as it's mostly a musical performance and it's basically just a bigger version of his own on stage persona (like when he performs St Jimmy with Green Day), so it comes to him more naturally. Can't get a much better role for him than a singing character that he created and is part himself!

There's time for him to do things other than music, experiencing other things is part of life and if anything helps add to his creativity.

Point taken. I have seen many footages of Billie playing St. Jimmy and he was good. Now I realized that this would be more like musical not "normal" movie. For me he's just not a good actor and that was my point.

I'm not like "Billie should only play in Green Day". I really appreciate that he's doing something else and his other ideas are not related to Green Day (I'm really greatful that Green Day as band isn't part of Foreverly). I just think that he shouldn't play in movies but that's only my opinion :)

Yeah I do agree that he's not the best at acting. I still enjoy watching him whether he's good or not though , plus it seems like he really enjoys it and gets a lot out of it, so I have no objection.

i think people would've complained if someone else did play st. jimmy anyway, so it's good a member of green day is confirmed to be in the movie.

and billie can just get acting lessons from his best friend, Paul Rudd :P

Paul Rudd will be Jesus of Suburbia and when he goes nuts he turns into Billie Joe, HAHAHAHA.

I really hope they use just the album tracks and not add in any Breakdown or RevRad songs.

Considering 21CB tracks are actually in ai the play, your hope is fruitless

I heard them talking about the movie a long time ago, saying they wanted to "streamline" it and shorten it from from the Broadway version, so I might get what  I want.  Of course it's changed hands so many times in the last 12 years who knows what to expect.   I'm also torn on the format.  I know it's probably going to be a kick-booty musical, but part of me wants it to be a straight up narrative.

Kind of like when they were making the first Scoobie Doo film and I wanted it to be a dark, gritty film with a real greyhound that didn't talk or anything.   Would have been a cool film but I knew it would never happen.

Perhaps American Idiot will be kind of like The Wall.   Or it will do something totally new and exciting.   Either way, you better believe I'll be in theaters opening day, and early!

The whole show is 1 1/2 hours  if they take out 21CB it will be shortened to acommercial.  Have you seen the show?  It is the most exciting show I've ever seen.   21 guns is one of the best scenes in broadway ever.  Lnoe was so beautiful on stage  if they take out 21cb, it won't be the same show

Going to see the musical was probably one of my best experiences EVER.  It was amazing but I feel like it could have been great with just the original 13 tracks: 57 minutes, 12 seconds and BLAM it's over.

I also saw the production, saw it on tour (so no Billie in it :(), i enjoyed the show due to the amazing songs (obviously!) and also for the nice staging and lighting. However I did feel the show is a bit thin on the plot side. So I think a shorter show would make the story even more so. But that's just my opinion.

Also Broadway shows are expensive to create and run, which makes the tickets rather expensive. Broadway shows are also typically around 2 hours to 2.5 hours so I think it's not really possible to be shorter than it already is/was and charge an amount of money that would make it profitable.

Awesome! Can't wait. Shocking, and offensive is what I like in a movie. I wonder how much younger they will make him look if that is even possible.

Well I hope he's not kidding

This can be either very good or very corny and even though I keep going on and on about how they should stop milking ai, I'm hoping for the best

The album is a masterpiece.  The musical did it justice and I hope that the movie is treated the same way.  It needs to hit hard like the album.

It would be nice if Tre and Mike were in it as well but not totally needed.

Great! Wasn't particularly excited for just a movie version of the musical (other than seeing Billie in it :P), this sounds much more interesting!

See...I can't decide if they're making the musical a movie or doing something new for no reason. The word choice in that article makes it sound very different, but to me, the most logical step is to do the musical as a movie. In other words, what I'm saying is, are the keeping the Johnny/Will/Tunny storyline or making something new? I think the latter choice is a mistake and highly unnecessary. I'm fully expecting a Rent-esque adaptation but to me they aren't being very clear when talking about it.

I wonder if "shocking" means like Jesus/religious imagery gone wrong---kinda like that art we saw of BJA on the cross or whatever.

IDK, it's cool but I'd rather see something that focuses more on the emotion and less on the shock-value.
