I hope it does go ahead, although I know it will be a long wait (even if they start filming this year, which is unlikely). I don't think you could have such a film, without Billie Joe's (singing) voice being in it, well you could, but to have the best chance, his voice has to be there somewhere, and where better than his 'alter ego'. I would also expect the others to have some sort of cameo roll at least, and play the soundtrack, as was done on the Broadway Cast album.

They guy who played St. Jimmy in the music video is still acting, and actually just had a role in the Evil Dead remake. He was the one with the long blonde hair, the teacher. However, I think I'd prefer somebody else.

As for his film version of "American Idiot" for Universal Studios, he expects to finish it by the end of March. (Michael Mayer, who staged the 2010 Broadway production, is attached as director for the film project.)

"The idea is to get it a little dirtier and a little nastier and translate it into visual terms," he says. "There's not going to be a lot of dialogue and it probably should be a little shorter, too. After that, it just takes it's 'movie time' in getting done."

"In case any Green Day friends are interested, here's some things I learned at the musical tonight:
Extraordinary Girl just doesn't work without the flying. Michael Mayer was apparently very upset it couldn't be included.
The musical wants to go to Australia, but no one down there is interested in having it.
The movie is gaining pace and is apparently 1-1.5 years away; the script is being properly worked on now. Tom Hanks is still involved.
Billie is most likely going to play St Jimmy; his name on the credits being a big expected drawcard.
