Guest
Rolling Stone have compiled a list of the 100 best albums of the 90s, with Dookie charting a very respectable 30th. Millions of us made time to listen to Billie Joe Armstrong whine as he and his band of Bay Area punk snots won America's heart with fast guitars, bouncy drums and the fakest English accents ever recorded. Their hits fit together like a stack of Pringles: "Basket Case" takes off with a case of the creeps and a melody that plays tricks on you, while "Longview" and "When I Come Around" vent the usual teen spirit with groovy hooks that the Bay City Rollers would have appreciated. Green Day took the booming Cali-punk revival to middle America: Cuter than Muppets, funnier than Weird Al, Green Day showed no signs of growing up here — which made their later transformation into politically charged arena-rockers that much more remarkable. Read the entry below, and check out the other selections. http://www.rollingstone.com/music/lists/100-best-albums-of-the-nineties-20110427/green-day-dookie-20110502

Annie, get your gun
it's the best of the 90's. But American Idiot it's not a 90s album Well, when I'm dumb, I'm pretty dumb
Blond-O-Sonic Shimmer Trap
I think they have all the right albums in there (mostly), just in the wrong order. I'd have Pinkerton, OK Computer and probably Morning Glory much higher (and I'd have a second Outkast album ATLiens as well as Aquemini) but that's personal preference. Only glaring mistake is that The Chronic is way too high compared to Illmatic.

Gwen Stacy
Only 30th? Dookie had a huge cultural impact and shifted the state of rock itself. Top 10 easily.

J&TheNight
Nirvana made two in the top ten? Pretty damn generous. I won't argue it either. I haven't listened to Pumpkins Siamese Dream in forever, and I think I will now.
belinda jane
the 90's was a massive era for new music i think. with hip-hop and grunge and all, so i think 30 is a reasonable position.

J&TheNight
In Utero took me by surprise I didnt lppk at the full listen was Mellon Collie listed? That should be listed higher than Siamese Dreams I didn't see it on there, but I only looked through the top 30. I need to go through those two and see which I prefer, but I always remember Mellon Collie better than Siamese. Honestly, I think In Utero kicks a lot of ass. I can't say for sure if it's better than Nevermind or not, but it's close. No one cars about Bleach

Akshat
Oh come on, Dookie should definately be in top 10. And AI in top 5 of the 2000s P.S-WHERE THE HECK IS NIMROD?
Guest
P.S-WHERE THE HECK IS NIMROD? Nimrod had literally zero cultural impact and had one major hit single.
amdr182
An album who had such an impact all over the world, dominated the media and conquered a lot of the teenagers who were trying to believe in the death of the great Kurt Cobain should be much, much higher. Top 10, at least!

I don't know about dookie, but seriously WHERE THE HECK IS NIMROD?! That was my first thought as I got into the top ten past Dookie, that Nimrod would show up in there. Nope. Damn shame. Nimrod had literally zero cultural impact and had one major hit single. I thought it was just Top 100, not Top most influential or impacting records. Did I miss that?
