What if Lost at Seventeen sold more than Tre? Lol.

As funny as that would be that would never happen lol

Like Clockwork (new Queens of the Stone Age album) is a million times better than Lost at Seventeen. No comparison.

That's right dude, Like Clockwork is the greatest album of 2013. I'm seeing Queens of the Stone age in a few months! WHOO!

It's quite something when a band that doesn't even have a Wikipedia article gets such extreme media attention :P

Lucky! I might go see them in Dallas in October, but I most likely can't go... :(

I love Emily's Army and I've seen them twice in the last two years and met them after the show both times. I even gave a Blue Replica to them to get signed by them and Green Day and then have auctioned off to raise some money for the real Emily and cystic fibrosis.

They put on a high energy, fun show. Does their music sound like Green Day? Not any more than a bunch of other Green Day influenced bands, but, yes, I went and saw them BECAUSE of Green Day. Only because I never would have heard of them otherwise.

And, really, if there was "no connection", this thread would have been closed because there is a thread already opened in the "Other Bands" section or at least moved to that section.

I'm in the process of downloading their new CD now and regardless, I want to support this up and coming band as much as possible.

Mmm, I'm interested in checking this out, I guess. I never got into Don't Be A Dick; I found it generic and forgettable for the most part, and I do struggle to take them seriously, given their "connections". That said, they're a pleasant listen and the reviews suggest that this is an improvement.

I really liked "Don't be a dick" so I was excited at the idea of this new album. I listened to it and even if I like the first album a little better so far, I think it'll grow on me. Still, I bought this album cause it's good stuff! I discovered them because of GD but I don't like their music because of GD. I wish I could see them live but I might wait forever before they come to France!

i wish my band had a famous daddy so we could become popular on all the wrong standards.

I love how people say things like this as if a) Emily's Army are international superstars and b) Joey Armstrong is the only child of a famous person ever to follow in their parent's footsteps, so to speak (which, yeah, in such a heavily gossip-inclined culture as ours is always going to make news).

This may surprise you to find out, but even outside of the arts, who you know is very important and makes a big difference in the sort of opportunities available to you. It may not always seem fair, but that's the way the world is, whether you're famous or not.

Disclaimer: I think Emily's Army works hard and have total musical integrity. I also really like a lot of their songs and think they have genuine potential.

That being said, it's sort of ridiculous to me that when I opened up my Rolling Stone app on my phone a few days ago, the list of "News headlines" were about the following artists/celebrities: Paul McCartney, Kanye West, Robert Plant, Nine Inch Nails, EMILYS ARMY, Carrie Underwood, the Grateful Dead, The Clash, AC/DC, and the list goes on (I'm literally looking at my phone app and copying the headline topics from a few days ago). Something is wrong with that picture, and that's the fact that somehow a teenage garage rock band, who doesn't even really have a huge following (like, they've never headlined a regular-size theater show), is getting extreme media attention amidst the greatest and/or most recognizable faces and artists of today (i.e. Kanye), or even of all time (Macca, ACDC...). I'm not saying it's a bad thing that they're somehow getting this publicity, it's just the weirdest thing in the world to me because they haven't exactly earned it through their popularity or talent. And I admire their music and talent, and know that they have loyal fans, but there's some kind of bizarre disconnect happening between the media and the band itself. There's really no good reason that they would be mentioned in more than a one-liner in Rolling Stone, and I'm not trying to say that as a hater, because again, I like them and their music. I'm honestly just dumbfounded by it.

I guess Rise Records/Billie Joe are just really good at publicity. Maybe Green Day should take a page out of their book.

I feel like Rolling Stone has done a lot of very weird things over the past few years.....but, I will also say that being listed as a highlight story on the RS app is not quite the same as, say, getting a feature article to yourself in the print issue. Much less something really huge like getting your picture on the cover. So, while I am fairly certain that RS's interest in Emily's Army is entirely related to Billie Joe producing their albums and Joey being their drummer, they've not really inflate them *too* much. The fact that most people outside of Green Day fans don't really know them is proof enough of that.

Oh yes I'm quite certain that this is the case :D, hence why it'll have to wait it's turn for me to listen to it. Not trying to actually compare them though haha, they're totally different things.

Is this the band that will be carrying the torch after Green Day retire (if they do) ?

I just get that feeling that they are ..... For some reason

Oh, that's too bad man. I'm seeing them in Bonner Springs, KS. I think that's a few shows before the one in Dallas. Well, have fun if you go! :D

Im expecting a rolling stones deal out of Green Day

I don't see them retiring anytime soon.

As for Emily's Army. They are going to College. All of them. Unless they become really famous, this band will probably fade out within 3-5 years by the time they all receive their four year degrees and (hopefully) continue to get even higher education.

In fact the only one who appears to want to continue in music is Joey (who said, "I remember the first time I played onstage, and I thought to myself, 'I want to do this forever.'") Maybe he'll drum in a different band one day, and we'll have to go through all of this AGAIN. Except Joey's gonna be in his 30s, maybe even have his own family, and still use the "Some kids go fishing with their dad's to connect with them, and for me and my dad it's music" example whenever asked about his father.

I'm just hoping that with their next record deal, the media will kind of "settle" with this Billie joe's son thing. It has gotten better since their early interviews. What I like about this album is that they are older, and they don't really sound like children anymore. Songs on DBAD like Ho-Loween and The Gutter really made them sound like children, hence the connection "Billie Joe's Child"

So as they age they will have fans who will get into them who may not even know who Billie Joe Armstrong is. People (even boys, which shows people can like them for their music, not their looks) at my school are getting into them (I have no idea how, they've been saying youtube) and some of them have told me to my face that Green Day sucks. (also showing that Green Day and Emily's Army sound very different)

Well another rant over.

I think their next album shouldn't be produced by Billie Joe, they need to just step away in that sense. That way at least their would be a lesser association. Still, I think they do try very hard to make things happen on their own, and maybe it's just me but I don't really hear early Green Day or much Green Day at all. But if you do hear Green Day of course you do, let's face it, they all probably grew up listening to Green Day. It they'd grown up listening to Train, they'd probably have a Train thing going on. I can't really blame them for what they sound like.

I listened to their new album a lot since I last posted in here and I have to say that I love it a lot. Even more than I thought first but yes, it's amazing, totally my kind of album :P

Anyone notice on the song "The Rescuers" that the guitar around 2:36 is pretty similar to the thing that Billie plays after the solo in American Idiot live?

I don't think they'd be signed to Adeline if Billie wasn't his dad. They wouldn't even be a band if Billie weren't his dad. He probably would have took up a sport or something. When your dad is a millionaire pop star musician, you're probably going to pick up an instrument, but they certainly wouldn't have any fame if not for Billie.

I'm listening to it now and, as with the first album, I'm completely unimpressed. I really like Joey for taking the backseat as the drummer and letting his "lesser known" mates go up front. But still, I don't like this group at all. They have nothing in their sound that makes them stick out, for me anyways. There is nothing new or interesting with them, and I really feel that a second album out already is ridiculous. Unlike a group I felt similar about, (cage the Elephant), they really haven't grown on me with their second album.

Avenue starts out with a green day sound too.

I sort of agree with this as well. I just don't know if they deserve this much exposure yet. It doesn't feel earned.

Just to clear up some things, since some people seem to not know too much about Emily's Army.

They're on Rise Records now, not Adeline. It's been two years since Don't Be a Dick came out. There were also two years between 39/Smooth and Kerplunk!, so it's not too soon to be releasing a new album. Joey has been drumming since he was like, what, four years old? So he's not exactly staying in the shadows by playing drums. He is a drummer. He also drummed in a jazz quartet at his school. It's what he does. They aren't 15 or 16 anymore, either. Max is almost 20 and a sophomore in college, Joey and Travis are 18 and going to be college freshmen, and Cole is 17 and going to be a senior in high school.

Believe it or not, Emily's Army actually has a sizable fan base that likes them for them and not just because of Joey. I have seen them live and they put on an awesome show. Max is quite the showman. They make their shows really fun and enjoyable. I'm actually seeing them again in a couple weeks and can't wait.

As for Lost At Seventeen, since I got my download on Monday it's been practically all I've listened to. I really, really like it. It's not just a generic pop punk album as some have said. If you take a minute to really listen to the songs you'll see that it is not that at all. I really love how they can go from sounding like a power pop band right out of the sixties in one song (Jamie) to a band that sounds like 90s punk rock in the next (Gübermensch). I feel like it's hard to assign a genre to them, unless you use a generic label like punk or rock or alternative or something like that.

I also understand that people aren't going to like them, okay, that's understandable, but at least try to not to be rude about it, okay? There are actually some people, like myself, that do like their music and aren't in it just for Joey. Yes, there's a connection to Green Day blah blah blah. It's okay to like them if you discovered them through Green Day. That's how I learned about them over two years ago now. There's actually a lot of bands I wouldn't have found without Green Day, so I can just add Emily's Army to that list. What's not okay is to only like them because of their connection to Green Day. Anyways, my rant is over. I was just tired of people saying things about Emily's Army without even knowing anything about them.

Meh. After listening to The Rescuers, they seem like another generic pop-punk band. Then again, they're fairly young yet. Certainly aren't as talented as Green Day were at 18. Not that many bands were.

I think they've gotten 100 times better since DBAD, but I look forward to when they're 100 times better on their third album :P

And I don't like to compare anything to Green Day really, but I might as well add that Dookie was their third album and 39/Smooth is a classic but pretty shitty  So I'm looking forward in general to watching Emily's Army progress (or not... )
