to be fair to them, They never mention Green day or Billie in anything so its not like there "using" Green day / Billie to get further :)

But GD and Billie mention them... In fact they're being promoted on GD.com/idiot nation.

I do really like it, probably even more than "Don't be a Dick". Such a great record! Guess I'll buy the CD as soon as I can :)

It tends to happen the other way around. Green Days Website and Facebook/Twitter have been promoting this new album. Emily's Army don't mention the link as much but official Green Day and non-official Green Day sites are promoting this new album for Emily's Army. I'm not saying there is anything wrong with this though. Its not like the way Will Smith promotes his son :P

As far as the album goes I do like a few of the tracks. Might download it from itunes later.

I gotta say, this is a Damn good album! For their age, they are already incredibly tight, and "Lost At Seventeen" show's an incredible growth in the band, musically and lyrically. Regardless of the fact that Billie Joe has helped the band with the recording, I could see these guy's doing really well for themselves in the near future!

I kind of don't want to listen to this album because I'd like for them to be successful without the support of curious Green Day fans... but at the same time, I think that's being a bit of a knob so I'll give it a go.

i get what you're saying but i dont think the press is a bad thing. Giving it a listen because you heard about it via a green day site is fine. Now whether or not you like it enough to buy the album, thats all on emilys army and they have to earn it.

I quite liked Don't Be A Dick, have to give this a listen some time. I'll be getting the new Queens Of The Stone Age album this evening though so it'll have to wait a bit :P

Agreed. 99.9% of people will have heard about them and listened to them the first time because of Green Day but that doesn't matter, whether you listen again or spend any money on them is what matters and that comes down entirely to whether you like their music or not.

I think Lost At Seventeen is fantastic. It sounds cleaner and the guitars are much better than with Don't Be A Dick. I haven't really sat down and listened to it yet though, so I'll probably have a better opinion once that happens. From what I have listened to though, it's a great album.

Billie has done a great job on the production of it too :D

they let Green Day post about them on their website and stuff though.. so they use them a little for fame haha.

Yep. It's a cover of the 1979 song by a band called the Fast Cars.

Disclaimer: I think Emily's Army works hard and have total musical integrity. I also really like a lot of their songs and think they have genuine potential.

That being said, it's sort of ridiculous to me that when I opened up my Rolling Stone app on my phone a few days ago, the list of "News headlines" were about the following artists/celebrities: Paul McCartney, Kanye West, Robert Plant, Nine Inch Nails, EMILYS ARMY, Carrie Underwood, the Grateful Dead, The Clash, AC/DC, and the list goes on (I'm literally looking at my phone app and copying the headline topics from a few days ago). Something is wrong with that picture, and that's the fact that somehow a teenage garage rock band, who doesn't even really have a huge following (like, they've never headlined a regular-size theater show), is getting extreme media attention amidst the greatest and/or most recognizable faces and artists of today (i.e. Kanye), or even of all time (Macca, ACDC...). I'm not saying it's a bad thing that they're somehow getting this publicity, it's just the weirdest thing in the world to me because they haven't exactly earned it through their popularity or talent. And I admire their music and talent, and know that they have loyal fans, but there's some kind of bizarre disconnect happening between the media and the band itself. There's really no good reason that they would be mentioned in more than a one-liner in Rolling Stone, and I'm not trying to say that as a hater, because again, I like them and their music. I'm honestly just dumbfounded by it.

I guess Rise Records/Billie Joe are just really good at publicity. Maybe Green Day should take a page out of their book.

This x10

I'm not going to discredit them or anything because they seem to have a legitimate passion for what they do and that's admirable, but it seems like (esp with the new album release) they're getting shot up too quickly and for no real reason (aside from the obvious).

I'm not too keen on Green Day's PR pushing them so much only because I feel like its going to attract the wrong "type" of fans towards them and I feel like they're gonna get pushed up into the spotlight too quickly for the wrong reasons.

I mean, they know that their fanbase is almost exclusively female teenage Green Day fans right now, and they seem OK with that for now. What genuine "punk crowd" they dream of attracting is unlikely given GD has nothing to do with that scene anymore and EA's music is equally poppy. It's hard to say what their widespread, mainstream appeal would be... but then again it always just comes to dumb luck and a hit single to send you to the stratosphere, and after that, original GD teeny boppers won't matter, they'll have their own set :P

I don't care much about anything. Having gone to a show in Oakland I can see they are definitely local heroes.

They don't have many fans where I live. The maximum number of actual fans that come to shows (not people who show up to just meet Joey, Adrienne, or Billie Joe) is about 20, and that will probably grow. In fact, a guy from my school just messaged me on facebook the other day saying he had no idea I was a fan and that he likes them too.

They have a decent amount of fans on the East Coast and a lot of fans around the world who wouldn't know about them without Green Day

People need stop blaming them and saying they're terrible. They aren't. They have two albums, which aren't extravagant in anyway, with songs that they wrote themselves.

It's not Joey's fault that they are so overrated. He wants to be in a band and he can do as he pleases.

And Billie Joe is proud of his son, he'll promote it as much as he wants. I don't love the idea but it's happening. Just put that aside, listen to this album, and don't expect 1991 Green Day. Think of them as a local band consisting of 4 boys, because that's what they are. If you do that I'm sure you'll enjoy it :)

Like Clockwork (new Queens of the Stone Age album) is a million times better than Lost at Seventeen. No comparison.
