Also I don't think he gets enough credit for his jumps. I know they're often off of a speaker but there are a lot of 20 year-olds who wouldn't be able to do them, especially the split kicks.Mike too. They're both really athletic.

Exactly, you either got it or you don't, and I definitely don't either. And yeah I think Billie is one of those people who is good at so many things it's ridiculous. I mean don't forget he also paints/designs guitars and has rebuilt a car engine. I'm gonna go out in a limb and say he's not gifted in math. Can't have it all.

I honestly think I would break both my knees if I jumped like he does. I get pains in them just walking around so jumping would be so painful and I’m eleven years younger than he is so I have no idea how he does it

I wonder whether he'd still be able to do the splits in St Jimmy. I haven't seen him doing them so far on this tour.

He hasn’t done that in years. Seems that went away with dropping his pants onstage. Maybe at 45 he thought it was time. 😄

I laughed so hard when he said he can't drop his pants in front of people who are old enough to be his kids.

I thought he said something like once you’re older than most of your audience you can’t really do that anymore. I forget the quote.

I've always wondered how academically clever he is, and what subjects he is/was good at or not so good at. For a start, there's the whole creative vs academic theory, and we can't deny that he's very creative - this would imply that he's not too academic, however he does seem like a very intelligent man. He likes reading and, if I recall correctly, he also likes poetry, so he's probably good at English Literature. And I presume he's good at English Language too. He always makes an effort to learn to little phrases in foreign languages when he visits other countries, and sometimes he sounds pretty good, so he must be okay at foreign languages. I feel like he'd be quite good at History too, but I've always wondered what he'd be like at Science. Or Geography.

And I second that he's maybe not so good at Maths. From my personal experience, people who are good at English don't tend to be as good at Maths, and vice versa. This would suggest that he's not so good at maths because he seems more of an "English person" than a "Math person."

OTOH, they say musical ability pairs in the brain with maths and those who are good at one often are good in the other, they are both left brain skills or something.

ETA: sorry @Jane Lannister !

Yeah, I heard that too and it definitely is true of some people, but I know a lot of fantastic musicians who are no good at math or at least not outstanding/talented. And I know people who do great in math/stem subjects but were so bad at playing music that they had to give up on the subject.

It's ok! :P

I think it's because she's not all that familiar with the song. I think it's super sweet. Also, I think she was teasing me a little that I want to involve Green Day at our wedding  I think it's better than the song she thinks is "ours," which is Madness by Muse. I don't find that one as sweet.

Hmm. Sounds like you have some converting to do, my friend. ;)

I think lots of creative people are really intelligent but struggle with mainstream schooling.  I think he’s very deep.

Yeah, that sounds about right. There were a lot of people in my school that were better at creative subjects than academic subjects, and they were seen as "stupid." I feel like I was one of the few people that noticed their intelligence, and the fact that they just struggled to apply themselves because of the school environment that they were in. It's pretty sad really, when I think back on it.

Anyway, to stay on topic, I agree with whoever said that Pinterest is the best place to find GD pics that you've never seen before (along with tumblr). I've just found this absolute gem on Pinterest and it was originally posted on tumblr::lol:

Billie is extremely flexible, I’m extremely jealous. I was just talking to the guy I’m dating the other day that it’s sad how people like Mick Jagger and Billie Joe move better than we do.  I think Billie is a very clever man, and definitely good at English. He’s a fantastic song writer.

Also, that mariachi photo ^^  I used to have that as my phone background along with the one where he’s in a purple dress

The painting thing, it is in his genes... you can learn many things from his family tree.

I know most people think When It’s Time has shit lyrics

I relate so much with those lyrics! And I think it's a great song for a wedding. If I'm lucky enough to get married one day I'd take it over Last Night On Earth.

I personally never had more than honorable results in maths at school, but sometimes I found the little something no one else had seen. I never really trained anyway at school, I felt broke all the time. I have a math spirit I notice more often since I finished school, quite oddly. Creative talents such as drawing or music showed up more easily, because school allows some free space to express on these matters, while not really when it comes to maths. Still, I remember finding out that a math exercise as wrong, I proved it and the teacher called the guy who had written it, who said he'll get it corrected in the exercise book :toocool:

I think you nailed it with the mainstream schooling thing. I don't buy into the idea that you're either good at math/science or you're creative. I know too many people who are good at both, neither, etc. But US public schools have one way of teaching and if you can't quickly figure out how to play the game you're basically told you're dumb from a very young age. Most kids then give up on the core subjects at that point and never even know their potential in those areas. In Billie's case, he was encouraged to be creative at a young age, was surrounded by creative people and probably praised for his musical achievements, and clearly got the message at some point early on that he was stupid. I guess the one up side to him getting that message is it caused him to focus all his efforts on his creative abilities!

I hope he doesn't still think he's stupid though. I saw a comment someone left on one of his more political instagram posts this past year that said something to the effect of "Billie, you're great at what you do but you're not very smart" and I went off on the guy. I don't usually engage with assholes on the internet but it pissed me off so much that this dude was calling Billie dumb. When someone already thinks low of themselves in a particular area and you have the nerve to reinforce that, that's just so shitty. He had two typos in the comment as well and Billie corrected him on one of them which thoroughly amused me

Very good points, and at least our schools in the US right now are really failing more than ever as far as having a really narrow focus of what "smart" means. Especially with standardized testing and the "everybody has to go to college" message being constantly pushed. Billie  is obviously a very smart guy, and also as I said gifted in multiple ways. But I shudder to think about what road he would have gone down if he hadn't had Green Day, because by the time he was 16 he thought he was a failure in every other way.

Billie's jumps are amazing! I was just thinking that the other day. When I see those pics of him mid-air it blows my mind.

I found this in an September article, about Billie and Mike's jumping skills:

"Intense and raccoon-eyed, with a little aging growl mixed into his faux-British sneer, Armstrong still sounds as good as ever, and hasn’t lost much pep from his step, marching in double-time and leaping around the stage like a hobbit hopped up on Pixy Stix. Drawing, perhaps, from his Broadway training for American Idiot, he often struck exaggerated, operatic poses, playing much bigger than his compact, sprightly frame. Armstrong was matched leap for leap (and then some) by the sinewy, athletic Dirnt, who flexed, pogoed and executed the odd flying split-kick."
