And I absolutely loved Billie on Haunted. He looked sooooo good and his acting was pretty decent, imo.

I always thought that appearance was later than it was but it was 2002. I thought he didn’t start to seriously seek acting roles until after AI on Broadway (apart from some silly Green Day things). So he was interested long before that, even though he credits AI for the acting bug.

I know, I always thought it was from around 2011-ish, until I found out a few months ago that it was from 2002. I guess it's because I knew the appearance on the Chris Isaak show was also from the early 2000s, and I don't think his acting was very good on that, so I wasn't expecting his acting to have improved much in such a short amount of time. Also, in the Haunted appearance, I think he looked really similar to how he looked in 2011.

I actually really struggle putting dates to photos of Billie because he barely changes. I can usually tell by hair length/colour, but if he doesn't change his haircut for a while, then I struggle.

I'm always on the lookout for tattoos to try and figure out what year it is.

Yeah, tattoos is the other thing that usually helps me figure out what year a photo of Billie was taken. But if he's doing the usual "let's wear long sleeves to piss off all the fangirls" routine, it's kinda difficult.

Or a freaked out eight months.  Interesting that it happened over 9/11. I remember suffering from PTSD from 9/11 and losing a lot of weight over the following four months until it passed.  I wonder if it affected him in a similar way. A lot of people had PTSD from all the TV footage and daily scares that followed, like the anthrax scares and reports of more attacks, etc.

Yeah, maybe not. I was too young and far away to really be scared (or at least don't remember) but I don't doubt that that's possible. Guess we'll never know, can't imagine he'd talk about that - and it's a very fangirl thing to be concerned with

I've always been fascinated by the  weight loss but have never been able to pinpoint the exact time frame, so I appreciate the posts above. It is incredibly drastic and has never really been addressed by Billie himself. Also, he has never gone back to the pre-2002 chubbiness which is very unusual. Most people yo-yo. I only saw one interview that asked him about it, and Billie claims that it was because he cut back on beer consumption. But there's no way it can be fully explained by that. Maybe it was just pure willpower and Billie decided that with the next album he wanted to be a sexy mofo. And he succeeded.

I didn't know it affected people like this but it doesn't surprise me. I remember watching the news that afternoon so clearly. I know where everyone was sitting in our living room/what we were doing/I could reproduce the conversations we had. I was three. I can't imagine how scary it must have been for people who really understood what was going on.

That's very well possible. :P Less beer and he started hitting the gym. The arms are the evidence - just compare his pre-poofy arms, poofy era arms and AI era 💪

And it was worse if you had kids, you were scared for them too. My kids were little at the time like his were. We know he thought about them and their future because he wrote about it in 21CB among other songs.   For months it consumed you 24/7. I put gloves on to check my mail. I had never been so stressed in my life. We don’t know of course but I just know what the atmosphere was like in the country at the time.

This was at last year's EMAs, I think. The eyeliner looks fabulous there but his AMA red carpet look was better overall imo. The shirt and hair

I'm not sure his actual weight loss was that great, he has a small frame and he really shows every pound gained or lost in his face, far more so than anywhere else.  It would depend how much beer he was drinking I guess lol.  I think the muscular arms/chest come more from the guitar playing than anything else, could be completely wrong if course!
