Dammit, the overly opinionated thread is back. I personally liked the able to post opinions freely without ridicule thread much better.

Fun fact, every kind of mega-fan should be welcome in this thread. Not just the ones who like to sexualize the band.

Yeah well, I'm nonbinary and the term 'fangirl' makes me uncomfortable as a nonbinary person.

Oh dear, we're getting upset by words here are we? Well, I consider myself male and I like to ''fangirl'' here sometimes. I neither consider it an especially ''girly'' thing to do, nor do I think exclusively girls should and do do it. I think the only reason this world applies well here is because Billie is male (and either straight or bisexual, I don't want to get into this discussion. He's certainly not asexual though) and so, most people in this thread tend to be female. It is therefore the most accurate term to use in my opinion.

That is not the same thing! Most humans are naturally sexually active to a certain degree. Therefore sometimes getting sexually excited about someone is very much natural and completely fine. In fact, if you want to see punk as an extension to the anti-establishment wave of the 60s, then you could say the movement is very much about freedom, liberty and self-expression and this includes sexual freedom. We shouldn't be regressing to an age where nobody even dares to talk about anything vaguely sexual, just because it could offend someone!

Good for you pal, I'm personally uncomfortable with the term 'fangirl' so I won't be using it. Mega-fan works for me.

I'm pretty sure taking something nonsexual, like the band performing a a song life (ie. Brutal Love), and talking about how sexy Billie is in the video is sexualizing him, but alright m8. If a bunch of guys were talking about Taylor Swift, or some other female artist, the way some people here talk about Billie no one would be questioning that she was being sexualized.

Yeah, and in my opinion there'd be nothing wrong with the guys doing that to some extent, if they didn't also reduce her to a sexual object. I'd say most, if not all people in this thread do not simply like Billie or any of his work because of his ass or general figure. A lot of what goes on in this thread is tongue-in-cheek anyway and should be taken at face-value, but the people here (in this thread) like Green Day (and Billie) mostly for other reasons (talking about Billie specifically: his talent, kindness and compassion, humor etc.) and it's maddening that I need to somehow explain this tbh...

There is a thread for sexualizing Billie and it's not this one, that's my point.

Well, I think this thread should be about getting way too excited about everything that we like about the boys (especially Billie) and that includes some amount of sexual talk too (IMHO).

I just wrote ''about'' three times haha, but you get the point...

24 hours ago I checked this thread and you were talking about ADHD. I check it this morning and there's 3 pages about moaning, sexualizing, and what should/shouldn't be aloud on this page. What the Hell happened?

There is always one that has to come along and be a buzzkill.

They are. That doesn't mean they're welcome to get on the backs of the ones that do though! Although how you think someone fake masturbating on stage hasn't already sexualized themselves I don't know. We don't have the Revealed thread because the stuff posted in it isn't allowed elsewhere on GDC or to protect people from it, it's just fun to have a picture thread for it. Graphic nudity isn't allowed anywhere on the site but if the members of Green Day do sexy things on stage sometimes and there's photos/videos of it you can expect to see it anywhere on GDC that it's on topic, we don't censor their content or only allow the stuff that's suitable for children.

We do have boundaries in this thread, we allow for appreciation of Billie's (or Mike or Tre's :P) appearance/charisma/sexiness but don't allow sexual fantasies or speculation about his private life (if I'd been here when people were discussing how Billie really moans I would've asked for that to stop so please remember that everyone). You're more than welcome to fangirl about the band any way you want here, I've never seen anyone criticised for non sexual fangirling. But by the same token you can't jump on everyone just because they're not posting the way you'd like. I ask that if you see a post that you think violates the site's guidelines or the boundaries of this thread that I mentioned you report it and let the mods look into it rather than taking it upon yourself to try and shut down every conversation that isn't to your taste.

I see your point about the term fangirls but it's already been left at that rather than fangirls/fanboys in order not to exclude those who identify as neither girl nor boy. I think maybe we're defining the term differently- it's not meant to literally just mean "fans who are girls" or just "fans", it's referring to a particular type of "fanning" that includes but is not limited to getting overly excited about them/their music, fancying them or finding them adorable or being in awe of them etc, or doing very "fanish" things, and these are all things which can be done by people of any gender but which are most easily described by the term "fangirling". The whole of Green Day Chat is for being a "fan", but this thread is specifically for being a "fangirl", which is a broad term to be interpreted how you want but is still different.

I hope my attempt to explain these things has been helpful.
