There's a line between having a good time and escaping from the stress of adult life and just being plain creepy. (I.E.: talking about how you want Billie's balls on your face) Ok yeah, that's just creepy, gross and weird! I agree with you on that.

I remember hearing stories as a kid about groupies following bands around, like Rolling Stones, Led Zepplin, etc. and I never understood it. Stalking someone is worse. That's the creepiest. It's creepy for 40-year-old married women with children to be acting like 12-year-olds at a concert and very openly thirsting over a 45-year-old man. It's more about the attitude of the person. Yep, gotta rock that fangirl attitude at any age!
pacejunkie punk
That's not an age thing though. Creepy stalker fans come in all stripes. I'm sorry the band has to deal with that and they give the respectful fans a bad name. It's one thing to get together in a forum like this and share our love, but I would hope none of us here would do anything disgraceful in person/public. We know the difference. I think it's worse when the person is older. You kind of expect a 15-year-old to do stupid shit. I know a girl who would stalk a beach that Billie was known for surfing at so she could meet him when she was 15. She's in college and when she looks back at that she knows it was stupid and she regrets how uncomfortable she probably made him. Someone who is almost 50 should be mature enough, if not smart enough, to not fucking creep just because they love a band.

You do realize that the person, I'm guessing, you're talking about is on GDC, right? It's actually attitudes like this that turned so many older/past members off GDC. And while I understand your opinion, everyone has the right to love Green Day in their own way no matter their age whether you agree with it or not is none of your business really. I highly disagree with this. We can all love Green Day in our own way, but stalking the band isn't cool. Especially when the band members themselves are getting sick of it and you aren't getting the hint. There is a point that is crossing the line and those people should be called out. I'm slightly glad that these 'past members' left the site. Most of the old people who don't hang around here anymore were a little bit creepy and crossed a lot of lines when it came to the band's privacy. I don't call that enjoying a band. It has a real affect on the lives of the band, their crew, and their families. Claiming that you're just "enjoying the band" is just plain selfish as long as you are crossing these lines. As far as the age goes, stalkers come in all shapes and sizes, but it's the middle aged people who have the means (money) to do the most damage. And trust me, if you're one of these people, the band doesn't like you.

They may not be middle aged, as you say, and many don't have the means (money) but have scrimped and saved to do this. Are they creeps? Do they cross the line because of their love of the band? I really don't understand all the negativity towards people, no matter their age, who love the band and may be are luckier than others to be able to see them more often than others. In my opinion, that's their business and not for any of us to criticize their actions. You don't personally know how the band feels about them. Unless you've had a one on one conversation with any of the band members you don't know. You can only speculate. Everything about this thread drives me absolutely crazy. And also the people who behave inappropriately at their shows. I don't care who you are, saying some of the stuff that I've heard said to the band's faces is plain sexual harassment, and wouldn't be tolerated if they weren't famous. 5 minutes ago, lizziebix said: in your opinion. I actually hung it with the group I think you are talking about (Sara, Fran, and Maria) and they are very very lovely girls. Not at all creepy, they're young and just trying to go to a bunch of shows. I wanted to stay and try and meet the band after they Vegas show and they actually talked me out of it so that we could get on the road to San Diego faster. They aren't stalking the band, and I think after meeting the guys a few times they don't even care to obsessively try and meet them again. Those girls aren't creepy in the slightest. All the older women I met in Vegas? Very creepy ladies. Not a fan at all.

Teenage Lush
i really don't think it's fair to generalize an entire group of fans as being creepy because of their age though? i do think that there is a very small, select group of fans who take things too far on occasion and some of them happen to be middle aged but that doesn't mean everyone who is 40+ and goes to more than one green day show is a stalker. i do find it kind of odd that people can take off and follow them for a whole tour but that's just because i can't imagine having the time or money to do something like that. it's kinda weird but not creepy at all, imo. for me the issue isn't anyone's age or how often they go to shows but the entitled attitude some of them have. pretty much everyone i've ever met at gd shows has been incredibly nice but that doesn't mean it's not irritating as fuck when they show up two hours before doors open and go straight to the front of the line because of who they are

I think we've both been pretty clear the issue we have is with middle-aged fans who are crossing the line. I also have an issue with younger fans who cross the line, but they are young and haven't learned as much so that can be excused. Someone in their 40's shouldn't be stalking the band at their homes, hotels, movie sets, favorite hang out places, etc. It's creepy and it makes the band uncomfortable. At that age, you should know that doing that is wrong. "it's irritating as fuck when they show up two hours before doors open and go straight to the front of the line because of who they are" Djrosstar is a BIG offender of this. I understand that this topic isn't exactly a pleasant one. But, I think part of being a fangirl is addressing the uncomfortable shit that is going down in the fandom. We all love these guys and want to see them happy and comfortable. Going back to the recent Instagram video from Glasgow, Billie Joe was noticeably uncomfortable that fans were hanging out outside of the hotel. Jeff Matika also tweeted about it because he wasn't cool with it either. I'd bet my ass that Mike only went and said hi in hopes that giving the fans some attention would get them to leave. They all probably just wanted to enjoy the unexpected day off after almost a month straight of touring, and it's really shitty they couldn't have that.
