He seems so charismatic. Does he give that off in person?

And I read an interview where he said he was 5'8" but I call bullshit. Seems 5'7" at most. How tall is he for real?

He's soooooo charismatic when you see him on stage, you can't take your eyes off him. I also agree that he looks miniature and almost unreal lol. Actually all of Green Day look miniature, not necessarily short but just generally petite/compact

I laughed out loud when I read that, "I'm only about 5'8" nice try . I do believe he's 5'6 or 5'7 though, Tre is shorter than him and he's not that short and Mike isn't that much taller than him either. It's really only his legs that are extremely short, his torso and neck are quite long giving him a decent amount of height but the little legs create the illusion of him being shorter.

I haven't met him (sob, still hoping for Tuesday) but think he's in the 5'6 or 7 bracket as most of the men in my family are around that and he looks about the same.  He is very slight built though and he slouches so that makes him look shorter.

I always asked myself what happens when you see him in reality. If the whole glamour and mystery disappears when I'm realizing that he's a human being?

For me, yeah. When I got a chance to meet him and talk to him it didn't really click in my brain that I was talking to Billie Joe Armstrong, someone I've wanted to meet for 6 years, until he was signing my arm. I get more nervous talking to cashiers at a grocery store than I got talking to him. It was almost like talking to an old friend ya know? I just remember looking at him and thinking "fans have cried when they met him, shouldn't I be a little nervous or something?"

Hey, I too have the short legs/long back that Billie does, they do the job just fine lol

I agree. I saw a fan that had the 'Be Silently Drawn' tattoo in the exact same place that Billie has it and it just made me cringe. That fan also posted a selfie with Billie on instagram and Billie looked really uncomfortable in the picture.

That pissed me off so much. That tattoo had a lot of meaning for Billie Joe and it really takes away from it when you get the same thing done on you just because you want to have one of his tattoos. I've seen a few fans who got the black heart on their finger like Billie has which is especially sucky considering that was a matching tattoo he did with his sister.

This also goes for people who get his signature tattooed on them. It might have been cool the first time a fan did it, but I saw a picture on instagram of like 5 fans together at a show who have Billie's signature tattooed on them. When you can have five people at a show together with the same thing on their arm, the whole "I have Billie's signature on me" thing really isn't that special anymore. Like... good for you buddy, 50 other fans also met Billie and did the same thing.

I think it's hilarious when fans get matching tattoos, of course it's cringeworthy and awkward as hell when they meet him but there's no real harm in it.

From what I've seen in pictures and what I've heard from people that have seen them in real life, I would say Tre is about 5'5, Billie is about 5'7 and Mike is maybe about 5'8/5'9?

Tre might be 5'6, I don't think there's that much in it between him and Billie, but yeah I think that must be about right. They're a generally short band but it's nothing that extreme.

Edit: Lol look at this

Why did he even say that, he might have been 5'8" in a sweet dream.  Agreed. It's not only his legs, it's also that he's so thin and the lack of shoulders, super narrow hips etc. Although I agree his legs make him look smaller than he actually is. They are so short and little - the way he walks is so funny too, he waddles like a little child!

That seems right, but I agree Tré is almost as tall as Billie, so more like 5'6"

I don't mind that because I don't think people are trying to be special or original when they do that. I think they just do that to keep a physical memory of the time they met Billie.

I second this. In general, fans trying to look like them/get same tattoos are usually cringeworthy. Taking inspiration is fine, copying not so much.

There's this band with a frontman who looks just like Billie. Instagram keeps offering me their pictures because some are even tagged as Green Day/BJA and it's so weird... I mean, the guy looks good and it's a cool band but he's so accurate in impersonating Billie that it's almost scary!

Is it The Desperate Mind?

I mean his signature specifically. I know fans, like Sarah from here, who got lyrics tattooed on him and that's really cool. It's a great way to take something boring (I think straight lyric tattoos are very boring in comparison to other stuff) and make it really meaningful by combining it with the time you met your idol. But getting his signature kinda just makes it look like you were too unoriginal to come up with anything better.

Absolutely. Right from the start of the gig Billie is commanding the crowd. And it makes no difference how big the crowd is as he has total control of the crowd. Even when he's lying on the ground during the medley he has the crowd in the palm of his hands.

And as for Billie's height, whenever people talk about his height, I think of this encounter with Will Ferrell:

I can see the desire to get his/their signatures tattooed on you if you met him/them, I think you may like a tangible reminder as you wouldn't believe it within a day or two.

Yes, Will is huge and a big star but it was still Billie that all eyes were on I think.

For me, getting a signature feels the same as getting album-art tattooed on you. It's cheap and doesn't have any thought or meaning to it. Getting album art tattooed on you is definitely easier than trying to come up with an interesting tattoo inspired by your favorite song and then commissioning an artist to draw it for you and then getting that tattooed. This is coming from somebody who spends a lot of time trying to come up with interesting tattoo concepts for themselves. It's not easy, and there are ideas I've been throwing around in my head for like 5 years to try and come up with someone that I feel represents who I am as a Green Day fan. So in my point of view, anybody who gets the album art done on them really can't have cared that much. It's like going shopping for a birthday card and grabbing the first one that says "birthday" on it.

I don't have any ink but if I did I thought the AI hand grenade logo would be a cool one. Maybe it's "album art" but you see it and immediately think Green Day like they intended.

I think album art or the signature thing is totally fine as long as it's meaningful to the person, having a tattoo doesn't have to be a who can be the most original contest. Copying the band members' tattoos (that have nothing to do with GD) creeps me out but it's still not actually harming anyone.

See where you are coming from but I was at the very end of the que when creativity was being dolled out.

Watching a show from 1991 (ignore the title, they're wrong) -- and pardon me but is that Tre making out with Billie at 16:00????

Saw this in my daily GDC mail and just had to look. I'm still unsure whether you made my day (because hotness) or ruined it (because this is so stuck in my head now).

About how tall Billie, Tré and Mike are, I always read everywhere they are 5'7, 5'6 and 5'10 respectively.

For the tattoos, it's the people's choices. If it has a meanning for them, good for them. If it's just for the fun to copy someone else, it's pointless. Come on, get something done according to your personality and creativity! I don't have any tattoos and I don't want one. But I do write stuff/draw with a pen on my left hand sometimes (Kind of a cheap tattoo which is not painful and not permanent).

Me too, there's no other way of preserving an autograph on your skin anyway :P I was talking about copying their own tattoos. That seems weird to me.

Billie knows how to get attention
