But they are in their 60's and used more makeup, so i think that is fair enough if they wanted to stop.  It's not the same thing.

Why?

A style is a style, it doesn't matter if it is full face make up, a clothing line or guy liner.

Don't get me wrong, I do think he looks hot with the guy liner, but he has gone through so much since the last album was released.  He has made so many changes in his life, I was just thinking that his style would relfect those changes.  He can still have a rock and roll look without the same hair style, color or guyliner, an more mature look.  I loved the outfit and I thought the blonde hair was awesome.  I would hve loved that to become his new signature.  It just feels like he has grown, but his style has not.

Well i think it does matter as they are drastic differences.

Well i understand what you are saying anyway.  I just don't agree that his style should change because of changes he has made in his life, his style doesn't need to change.

Well we can disagree.  I know that when I have had drastic changes in my life, something about me changes as well.  When my father died, I decided I had to do something for myself to make me feel better, so I lost 60 lbs.   I think that it is pretty common for people to have some thing dramatic happen in their lifes and look for change.  I really wanted to see a more mature style from him.  And honestly, it was not really his style, it was his on stage persona.  We know he doesn't dress or act like that in real life.  I guess what I'm saying is I think I was expecting him to drop that on stage persona and just be more himself, like he was at the Geezer premier.  He doesn't need the guyliner and spiky hair to have that dynamic on stage persona.  Hubby is not a GD fan at all and he was blown away by his stage presence.  He said that he is not really into GD, but he was so good live, he was impressed.  And I don't agree that they are drastic differences.  A style change is a style change.  It does not have to be easily noticable to be dramatic.  Sometimes subtle changes can make a huge impact.

I see it more as his stage persona is himself, just a different side of it. He might feel just as himself looking dressed down off stage and dressed up on stage, it's just a different situation. I think if he felt compelled to make a style change to reflect other changes he'd go ahead and do it, we've seen he isn't afraid to overhaul his look when he wants to from his American Idiot transformation. Might be that he would absolutely go for a dressed down/scruffy look the second he wanted to, but genuinely still prefers the dressed up one.

What I liked about the geeer premier performance and about Pinhead and even pre-AI Green Day is that it's stripped-down in a way, it's more like his "civil self" playing music. I prefer it over his arena-show persona. It would be nice to see more of that.

I like seeing those types of performances from him sometimes as well. It's the same when he plays guitar etc in other bands, it's like his non frontman/let others have the limelight persona. But I like his putting on a show frontman persona more :P

I love the eyeliner, I think he looks so good in it, the only time I haven't liked is much was for the HOF ceremony, I thought the makeup artist made it too perfect, he's not a girl, he needs a different look.  I like it both subtle and over the top, love those photos posted a page or so back, but he probably needs it to be more subtle now.  I can quite see that he needs to 'put on' his new GD project personna.  He looks great though, and it is a different look from the Trilogy stuff, although I liked that too, liked the animal print waistcoat look.  He looks so good dressed up in suits and ties!  He's Billie Joe Armstrong and they are Green Day and long may they continue doing whatever they like!  Anyone else notice how trim Tre is looking in that be IG post?  We just need to see some new pics of Mike now. ?

I like these better because he acts so much more human. I saw BIAB a while ago and I realized that what he does on stage is close to his Broadway performance in a way. It's an act. A very good one but not necessary.

Not sure I agree, I don't think you can command audiences that big that well if it isn't an act or personna, it's one off the things that make GD so good live.  We all know bands who sound good but don't bring the house down because they just walk on and sing.  A small venue is a very different thing.

I agree!!!I love his new look for Green Day too, I think it looks fierce....the eyeliner is perfect to me, smudgy on his large beautiful eyes, and I'm so happy to see him in a suit jacket, he is so hot in jackets. I don't see why he is 'too old' for eyeliner. Why would he care about an arbitrary cultural standard like that anyway? He likes it, and it looks great the way he did it. But this new look is perfect.

I like that he has a "Green Day" persona, it is like he's showing us a different side of himself, and he obviously has fun doing it. It's the part of him that will always be young! In real life he's a total nerd and middle aged dad,  but in that selfie he looks like anything BUT a nerdy dad...he looks sexy and beautiful and like a punk-ass ROCKSTAR with no fucks to give. And I LOVE it.

You bring up some very valid points.  The size of the venue will probably make a huge difference.  I was going by the geezer premiere where his stage presence was breathtaking. Joan Jett was practically naked and she did not have the presence he did.  I know he needs the guyliner to be,properly seen, but you are correct, the stage presence may need help in bigger venues

Exactly, it's a different PART of who he is. Off stage he is a dad and a nerd, maybe a little shy. Onstage with this different look he gets to be the sexy hot rockstar.

And it seems to comes so naturally to him as well, he's a born showman/attention seeker :P. Can't think of many frontmen who can connect with and command the crowd so successfully and it always looks like he's having a whale of a time doing it, it has to be a natural part of him.

Found a nice, non-pink  edit of the "The" selfie for our viewing pleasure, and in case anyone wanders onto this thread and wants to see what all the excitement's about...

I agree.  Just because he acts differently on stage, doesn't mean it's not what's natural for him.  I personally find that I act very differently on stage from in 'real life', and the stages I'm on are significantly smaller than Billie's.  I see it as being similar to how you act at work Vs how you behave with your friends.  Both are your natural behaviour, just in very different environments.

On the guyliner, I'm personally a fan. I really like the AI style and hope that it develops, rather than changes.  A totally static style is not the way to go though.  Frankly though, I wouldn't care if he had pink dreadlocks and his face painted like a cat if the new album sounds as amazing as it could do.

Fair enough, it takes a different approach to pull of an arena show. He obviously does this for a reason, what works fine in small venues probably isn't as good in big ones.

By the way, I find the way he adjusts to different venues/audiences pretty admirable. Many just do their thing the same way everywhere.
