The Green Day Fangirls' Confessions Thread

I love it so much more without the guyliner.  Yes, his eye looks more green with the guyliner, but I just love the natural look.  His eyes are so much more expressive natural.  And you can actually notice other features more, such as the length of his lashes and shape of his eye brows.  I guess what I'm saying is with guyliner you are drawn to his eyes, but without you notice his whole face

Agreed. I thought he had stopped wearing it

I think he wears eyeliner as stage make up, but also because he likes it. There's even early (he's in his early 20's, before AI) Green Day pictures floating around where he's wearing it, because he likes it. He used to bum it off of girls.  I kind of like it myself, to me it means "Green Day" because it's not like he goes around in it all the time like he used to, but for pictures and performing it's kind of hot. It's like we get to see another side of him, the part that will stay young forever.   Even though he's technically  too  old for it based on arbitrary cultural standards, he doesn't give a damn and does what he wants. That attitude is sexy to me.

Also, to me  it makes him looks beautiful and mysterious, like old silent movie actors.

IMO, He's equally beautiful without eyeliner, and with eyeliner.

His eyes look more natural without it, but it can look good during shows. But like @JJ1964said it can detract from the rest of his face- but it depends on how much he's wearing.

Example 1: This eyeliner in the corner of his eyes is ok

Example 2: Although he looks so cute in this picture, he is wearing too much eyeliner. It looks like he used a paint brush to apply it

And what does 'bum it off of girls' mean?!

Yes I agree the amount he uses can make a difference. It looks really nice in the new selfie, I think. Kind of smudged and imperfect. The way he had it for the Trilogy pictures was a little to neat and pretty for my taste.

From your lovely examples,  The first picture looks nice.  The second picture, it's too much, it looks painted on and it's distracting. I like it more punky and messy, like the selfie, or how he had it for HOF last year.

It was his signature style, 12 years ago.  As gorgeous as he looked in that selfie, it almost makes me question the direction of the album.  The guy liner is not a style that will appeal to a generally older audience, it is a very young persons kind of appeal.  They are in their mid-40's now and I was expecting them to target that type of audience with the new album.  I can't see them appealing largely, to a much younger audience like they used too.  Most teenagers don't find 44 year old men attractive, there are exceptions, like my favorite teenager who is not my daughter, Jane Lannister (who also took the last name of my favorite GAme of Thrones character).  I may have incorrectly assumed they would be targeting an older audience.  Now I may be jumping to conclusions and be 100% wrong.  So we will have to wait and see.

I do see the appeal of the silent movie actors, so Rudolph Valentino.

I don't know if he cares about targeting anyone, he might just wear it because he likes it. I think at this point in their career,  creating an album and a style is more about artistic and personal expression, more than reaching target demographics and making as much money as possible. .  But you're right, Warner wants to make lots of money, and I'm sure Green Day does, too. We'll see how they market this thing.

The make up definitely catches the teenager attention. When I showed videos of BOBD and 21 Guns in piano class, they loved the eyeliner.

I'm not sure he's targeting any particular age group. I don't really find it that appealing, but I don't care as I love their music. I can see how other people, particularly older music fans, would be put off by it.

Trust me the record company cares about targeting the right audience.

The only look I've ever disliked on him was the very short hair from Macy's Day Parade video. I can't think of anything else that I really strongly disliked.

I agree with my older and wiser friend Judi, the eyeliner look suggests they are going for teenage audiences like with AI and 21CB. It worked amazingly in 2004, but worse in 2009 and I doubt the same aesthetic would succeed again now. I'm afraid the days of them being the band with thousands of teenage fangirls are gone. It's a few of us in this thread but I don't think they'll have audiences of screaming girls on the next tour.

My biggest wish is that they would target older audiences, try to move on to classier style, finally become mature and make it obvious. This picture suggests this isn't what they are going for. On the other hand, they'll probably won't attract nowadays kids' attention anyway so if he wears eyeliner or not is rather circumstantial.

I kind of disagree.  I think the guyliner is part of his rock 'n roll image.  Kind of like the makeup Kiss uses.  It's just a part of who he is when proforming.

Exactly.  They are known for their makeup whether they wear it or not.  Just like Billie's guyliner.

I agree, he's just so beautiful, all dressed up, thick black hair, sexy smudgy eyeliner...he looks DELICIOUS:wub: I can't stop looking at that picture. If it that look is the new "Era" it's fine with me.

Right, he doesn't wear it all the time, so why not for special occaisions? It's so hot.

I love it too, and I'm not suprised. He wore it at the HOF just last year and looked gorgeous.

Yes, but the point is that Kiss realized they got to a point where they were too old for the make up, just like Billie's guylineri

But they are in their 60's and used more makeup, so i think that is fair enough if they wanted to stop.  It's not the same thing.
