I did pit all day for reading and Leeds, two days in a row. it was fine the first day, I passed out the second day just before GD came on. fought my way back to barrier in time for them after being pulled out though. the advantages of being tall and intimidating..

I'm a dedicated fangirl but even I would get out of your way if you came clawing through the crowd :P

I was getting kicked, punched, kneed, scrammed & pinched when I got back to barrier. it wasn't very pleasant. not my fault I fuckin earned my damn place at barrier mate how about you drive overnight to get there and be waiting at the gates hours before they open and maybe you'll get barrier. fuckers. I left the barrier half way through Dookie and went to the side of the stage though, still had an awesome view.

When we went to a show in 2010, my hubby got sunstroke from waiting outside for ~11hours, and passed out at the barrier. He was ok, but had to get out and go to the back of the floor.

......terrible confession.......I stayed at the barrier.........

once i'm on the barrier only way i'm leaving it is if i'm actually dying :P

I'm pretty much the same, Leeds was just such a bad experience that I couldn't take it. I felt so sick and tired, I'd have passed out again if I'd stayed

I really love concerts, and a lot of the fun is the people you meet in line, but then unfortunately, assholes appear as if by magic once the show starts. I hate getting kicked in the face soooooo much...... You know how they have metal detectors at airports, why can't they have asshole douchebag detectors?

Worth it though for the magic moments.... Getting Billie's sweat dripped on you, a wink from Mike, a funny face exchange with Tre, no response from Jason....

Yeah once I get to barrier, I hang on as tight as possibly and make friends with the security guards  at one show I had this giant drunk guy actually trying to pull me off the barrier, like he was peeling my fingers off, it fucking ridiculous. I kicked him as hard as I could and made "help me" faces at the security guard and he put the drunk guy right in his place

This! Security can be your best friend at the barrier. They brought us bottles of water in Hamilton, and tried their best to keep us all safe.

i feel like i always get stuck with the total dickhead security guards :( the ones in moline were just terrible people. we tried making friends to them but they were rude as fuck and wouldn't give us any water even though everyone was about to die of thirst. they did ask me if i was okay when i started crying which was nice but yeah i still would've rather had water :P

That sucks.....

LMAO at ''no response from Jason'' as well!

Well… this year I've seen Green Day three times in three different countries with lots of different people around and got barrier at every show.

Vienna was by far the worst experience I've ever had. Some heavy blokes pushed me hard against the barrier at the entrance when the gates just opened, I couldn't breathe for what felt like an eternity, the security guards ignored me, I was under shock and still had to get out of there and then run down to the stage where my friends were. It was really far, I felt so dizzy and was about to pass out while I was running, I'm still wondering how I made my way down after all. I didn't even give a fuck about seeing Green Day anymore, I was glad I got out there alive, in the end I could luckily enjoy the concert anyway though. :)

At Rock im Park there was a REALLY annoying girl next to me that didn't stop bitching about how bad I was pushing her though she was the one pushing me????
And at Reading I was pretty frustrated that I was second row until shortly before Green Day where I couldn't see anything, but then the most wonderful miracle happened and the lovely guy on barrier let me get in front of him even though he was waiting all day there to be on barrier for Green Day as well.

What I'm trying to say is… on the one hand there are times when not even the biggest dedication can make it worth to torture yourself this badly. On the other hand there are times when a lot of things seem to go wrong but then something really great happens and totally makes up for everything else.

Most of the times though, it's a little bit of everything. It's always absolutely unpredictable (but in the end… it's right).

Wow... My confession - Apparently I'm a terrible fangirl. I've only ever had actual seats at their shows and never even tried to be in the pit let alone up at the barrier! I'm a pretty unenthusiastic concert goer actually. People always think I'm not having fun, but I AM! I'm just taking it all in!

Me too, pretty much every single one I am singing at the top of my lungs and jumping up and down, although, now that I think about it, I'm not much of a "hey-o" responder/fan!

I will admit I'll sing along and dance and stuff, but it usually takes me until the show is more than half over to get really into it. I'm definitely more subdued than most people. Especially the people in the pit, obviously! Haha omg I feel like such an old lady.

Now, when I'm listening to them in my car... THAT'S a different story. I sing along at the top of my lungs, "drum" on the steering wheel, and dance in my seat lol.

Old lady?! No way..... I have been to many other concerts, and had actual seats sometimes. A lot of times there was not much happening around me, so I can relate. It feels uncomfortable if you're the only one in your section up and jumping. Also, you get people who figure seats are for sitting, and get upset when you get up. The floor is by far the most active (and my favourite) place, and if the front is too crazy, I just let myself get moved back further by the crowd until I have a good spot! ...but not for Green Day...I must be front row then.....!

I can't help being crazy at GD shows. It's like "OMG. That's one of my favorite songs. BEING PLAYED BY MY FAVORITE BAND. Right in front of my face. MIND = LOST."

This so much.

Also Green Day is the only band that makes me cry at their concerts. Vienna -> Dookie -> I cried. Hard. Or Rock im Park -> Waiting -> I cried. Again. And after the concert I just laugh about myself getting so emotional about a song like F.O.D. or something. Aaaah, sweet dedication.

Yeah, pretty sure GD will always be that one band that makes me cry like a baby.

Last time, I didn't cry during the concert, I didn't have time for that, I was just thinking about living the moment, dancing and singing (or screaming) along to every song... But man, once it ended, specially on the ride home, I literally couldn't stop crying. Post concert depression much?

I can't even remember the emotions I felt during the concert last March. It was my first barrier Green Day show and now the whole night is such a blur.

I only went to one GD concert. It was in 2010 in Montreal. I don't know how my friend did it, but she managed to make our way through the crowd to the second row in front of Mike. Between us and the barrier, there was lady who was like 60 years old. She was definitly a GD fan. She was taking pictures, she knew all the songs, she was dancing... she was certainly having fun and enjoying the moment at the barrier.

I just picture myself at that age.

I'm so tiny that barrier pretty much is the only place for me as well. Or far in the back. Otherwise I can't see anything and when getting pushed against the person in front of me, I'm unable to breathe because my face ends up in that person's back  So far, I've always been fine with my barrier experiences. I've been barrier on Jason's side in Mönchengladbach, at Rock Am See, in Vienna and at Rock im Park. On Mike's side in Leeds. Since I always stood at or near the end of the stage, I was lucky with the squashing. My fucked up knee would make it impossible for me so I'm super glad with the crowds I've been part of so far. If I was in such a situation, being smashed against the barrier, I'd never try to endure the pain just for the spot. It's about the music and I can hear it well from the back as well. As Mary said, I can fangirl, too! That's not it. And oh, I'd love to stand in front of Billie once! Or more often in front of Mike. But not for the pain.. never. I'll never understand the people who say they "made it through the show, survived" after a Green Day concert. Man, I'd want their performance to last forever, enjoy the moment. This is what it's all about. From that moment on where people speak of "enduring" and "surviving" it's definitely not worth the spot anymore. :)

I have tried to be on the barrier, but haven't been successful yet. I'm happy to queue up all day from early in the morning, but I'm not really willing to go overnight as I know I won't enjoy the concert as much! Maybe I'll have more luck turning up early in the morning next time they do UK arena shows. I'm still happy being a couple of rows back from the front, but I like to be in the middle as near to Billie as possible.

This  I guess I'd be half dead during the entire show. I'd only do that when I could camp out all luxury, without back- or kneepain and have someone who collects the camping stuff in the morning, haha!
