According to people who know the band (such as Aaron Cometbus), Mike's really chatty, interesting and funny. Telling stories and making jokes and observations, the life and soul of the party. I can see how he might come across as boring in comparison to the others in some interviews simply because as the songwriter/frontman Billie has more questions to answer, and Tre's personality is so loud and in your face, so he can be overshadowed. But by all accounts he definitely isn't, he's an interesting and funny guy.

Have you watched many interviews with the band? There's some where Mike's a bit quiet but there's also lots where he's very entertaining, especially older ones. He's super entertaining and engaged with the crowd on stage too.

Such as the recent ask anything interview with Mike and Tré and the Modern Rock Live radio interview from 1997.

I think Fuck Time is fucking awesome!

I think Fuck Time is just..I don't know some kind of legend :D You know, first a FBHT song, then a GD-live song and after that a "real" GD song . I think there's no other song with a history like that. I can understand why people hate/ don't like (I love it) but like I already said, it's the history behind that song which makes it cool :P

On that note, there's an interview with Fat Mike of NOFX who makes this same point about Mike, to the extent that Mike doesn't know WHEN to shut up!

Okay, Mike must be SO much like me  Since I learned how to talk, my sister and mom have been telling me shut up all the time  I always get the impression Mike and me would get on well :)

I think it should've stayed a live song I think it lost some part of it's magic in the studio the energy not there

Actually, two people who talk too much tend to not get along because they're always battling for dominance in the conversation :P

thats very true, but i just think it was only fun at first and is not that good of a song to have such a journey. i dont know, i get that it had never been recorded before so thats why they choose it but out of all the FBHT's song they could have brought to the mainstream... fuck time? really? meh

yeah i agree it should have just been a live song, a little ditty they played randomly at club shows. I think the studio recording is pretty good though, i just still dont like the song

Interesting- I grew up in Walpole, but went to high school with a lot of kids from NA. Good chance we know some of the same people!

I'm sure we do- SE MA can be a really small place sometimes! We're pretty close in age (I'm slightly-emphasis on slightly, haha- older), so I'm sure we know some people in common. And, with the number of shows we've been to together, I'm sure we've bumped into each other (probably literally in the pit) at least a few times. Small world!

It was the only FBHT they hadn't already recorded and released so there wasn't really much choice there. The thing I really like about the song, as well as the cool story behind it, is the way it parodies old 60s/rock and roll songs that were basically about hooking up to have sex but of course never said anything explicitly, it was all just implied. Then they come out with an identical sounding song but just come RIGHT out and say it as outrageously and filthily as possible . That old style guitar line along with the explicit lyrics is perfect, funny and clever and badass. The fact that they preface the album with a sweet little intro song saying "maybe I'll see you tonight..." and then kick off the album properly with the not so sweet next part "...oh baby baby it's fuck time!" makes it even better. Such a ballsy and amusing way to start an album.

Walk Away is fucking amazing. Love the melody, the lyrics and the feel that song has. Don't understand all the hate

The Awesome as Fuck album (not movie) would be an amazing setlist. Jason Andrew Relva, Going to Pasalacqua, and one of my all time favorites, Cigarettes and Valentines are all included. These are the kinds of rare songs that would make my day on Thursday when I see them.

Sex, Drugs, and Violence is one of my favorite Green Day songs. I didn't like it at first and the title seemed lame, but now I understand the lyrics. It seems like a really personal song. Just looking back on life and the right and wrong paths you've taken. And I love how after Mike sings it just slams back into palm muting and Billie singing his life.

"I've been getting lost searching my soul all around this town

I took a wrong turn at growing up and it's freaking me out."

I think this is just a kind of midlife crisis that they're going through. Like they want to be young and make rock and roll music and be all flashy and big.

I kind of cant wait for this era to end and for them to hopefully more meaningful songs. I think rehab is going to help that.

A lot of the trilogy's songs are surprisingly meanful, just behind the facade of a dirty punk attitude. As you pointed out, many are autobiographical (Lazy Bones), which makes them even more relevant looking at Billie's rehab. Unless they do another rock opera, it'll be hard to get as serious as their two politically charged albums. (I wouldn't mind another rock opera )

I hate the censored version of Fuck Time though.

OH BABY BABY IT'S F-WOO TIME.

First reaction-WHAT?

- Walk Away is my least favorite song from the trilogy.

- Rusty James isn't that good--it's not bad, it's just not very good.

- ¡Tré! has some of Green Day's best songs ever--unfortunately it also has some of their worst songs ever.

- ¡Dos! is the best of the trilogy, despite being way too short and having more of a "let's make a bunch of crazy songs" feel to it than a "let's take our time and make some meaningful songs" feel.

- I've never admitted it, but ¡Uno! has been a bit of a disappointment ever since it came out, primarily because the tracks that I had already heard were by far the best ones, and the rest were rather weak.

For some reason, I can only think of opinions regarding the trilogy right now. :P

It wasn't that good to begin with (for me, the novelty wore off quickly), and if they loved it so much, what was stopping them from surprising us with another FBHT single randomly? Nothing. I can't help but feel that there was a rejected song that would have been so much cooler to hear.

Even though it was a horrible first single choice I've loved it since day one. Gave me a pre AI feeling and the rest of the trilogy did not disappoint even if they did rip themselves off song after song.

Maybe that's an unpopular opinion! Originality is great but making songs that sound exactly like older songs you've written, especially when in your prime, is just fine with me!

Yeah, but as I'm so weak Mike will win the dominance and we'll do fine :P

I freakin' love Oh love since it came out as a single. I'm not ashamed to say it's in my top 3 songs of trilogy.

Oh Love sure makes it to my top 10 trilogy songs and I think it could make it to the top 5. It let me down a lot when it came out as the first trilogy single, but with time it was grown on me and I think it will be a good song to hear live when I see them :)

More and more I think No One Knows is genuinely one of Green Day's best songs ever, at least vocally and lyrically.
