Unpopular Green Day Opinions

Pre-American Idiot, Prosthetic Head is one of the best songs that the band has written.

I would love to see it live.

They played it live at the BBC Sessions in 1998

If this is an unpopular opinion, I'd rather not be one of the cool kids.

I didnt really like the American Idiot era :S

I personally think that the American Idiot era was great, but as far as the touring went, that is up in the air.

I think it would have been better to play the entire album as the main set and then the encore could be a shit ton of oldies.

For the current tour, I think they should close with Good Riddance. However, I think all of them should don the guitar and have a big ol' acoustic sing-along.

Good Riddance (Time of your life) is such an emotive song, but I think it was really cool to drop it as the "closer song" on any gig.

I agree. In my opinion it was about time already.

Yeah, I agree here too

I can live with or without Good Riddance, but I do want the acoustic encore to return in full force. It would be a great way to throw in random 30 second snippets of any of the trilogy songs. Billie could sing Amy and acoustic versions of Uno/Dos/Tre songs... like that time he did Rusty James acoustic. I wouldn't mind hearing Missing You or Sweet 16 or a little bit of the Forgotten as part of some kind of medley.

Maybe Drama Queen as well?

And Misery PLEASE!

Well, since hating Good Riddance is so popular, I'm going to come forward and say that I would absolutely want them to perform it during the encore.

So if I'm reading all this right, they've dropped GR from the encore for the current tour? I agree with you 100%, I cannot imagine my first GD gig not having that as the closer

Judging by the setlists from all the U.S. shows so far, yes, they have dropped it from the encore. I know, man, it's tragic. But not many people on here seem to care :ermm:

Reading a lot of these opinions about what they play live.. I really just don't get it. I really want to see KFAD/Shout live, I would love all the hey-ohs, I need GR to end so I can cry like a little bitch. I can understand that the hey-ohs might get tiring after a while but I would still like to keep them because it's like 'Yup, that's Billie'. I love his stage antics & how special he can be at times, how much he interacts with the crowds. At least he puts effort in unlike a lot of other bands who come out, play their set & leave.

That was much more of a rant than I expected :P

I'm the same. Having watched so many live clips, I want to see them play all of their hits as well as the rare non singles. I want to go 'hey ho' on Billie's command and I want to watch all the band members prance around in feather boas and bras during King For A Day like nobody's business.

I think part of this is to do with the fact that neither of us has seen Green Day live before. I think a lot of the people who complain about live shows have seen them live several times, perhaps all during different eras, and have grown tired of the supposed formula.

I don't know if it's unpopular or not but I like the fact that they dropped the acoustic encore.

I really didn't like Misery, but since you guys keep talking about it so much, I gave it another listen and wow. This song is great! :)

I can't help but think of the film when I hear it lol.

Me too, it's really good having that acoustic singalong at the end to "say goodbye" to the band. With a fast song closing you don't even know if it's the last song or not so it's like they're just suddenly gone which is sad :(:P, plus you don't get to "wind down" at the end of the show. It was quite fun ending on a fast song like that at Shepherds Bush as it was a smaller venue so it was more of a relentless fast paced show anyway, pretty crazy coming out of the show still fully pumped up. But at an "epic" arena/stadium show where the mood goes up and down I'd much prefer them to end on Good Riddance, or at least another acoustic song.

omg I only just saw the Rusty James acoustic video...it's pretty awesome! They barely play acoustic though, which is a little sad to me.

Exactly. That's why I'm looking forward to hear what they make of Brutal Love as a closer during this tour. A good performance could have the whole audience in tears.

Even so, I still think Good Riddance would be the best possible closer. In fact, it's the best 'ballad' they've ever written. I don't care if it's overplayed: there's a reason for that. It's very raw and tender, yet so easy on ears.

Totally agree! It's the perfect show closer.

I didn't think 99 Revs was a good choice to end that show. After they played American Idiot it felt like this weird deflating 'come down', maybe just because it was a new song that not many people recognized. I dunno, AI has so much energy live with the wall of death and stuff anyway, I would have just been happy ending with that

I love how popular it is to have an unpopular opinion.

I also love that this is a thread where you can take a shit at anything without much fear of reprisal. This might as well be the "Take a shit at Green Day, its fans, and its members" thread and people would be like, "Well, your post in which you tear apart everything that Green Day stands for is highly appropriate." :P

I didn't even have an unpopular opinion to post, but now I'm just trying to think of one after having established that

I do wonder about Tre sometimes. He's obviously extremely talented, smart, and funny. He seems like a nice guy, and in a lot of ways he's the hardest to get to know as an individual because he uses humor to deflate all serious situations, so it's really hard to tell what kind of person he is, ya know? It's also just that I've just heard a lot of not-so-nice things about him over the years, from various places (ranging from Billie to fans). I love Tre for who we know him to be, I just wonder if I would really like him as a person. Not that we "know" Mike or Billie, but it sure feels like we understand a lot of who Billie is, and I feel like I have a general distant gauge of Mike's principles and personality. I just don't know a damned thing about who Tre *really* is, because it's hard for me to believe that the personality we see in interviews/on stage is 100% of what makes Tre Tre. It definitely sounds like he's a goofball in those private moments with friends too, it's obviously not just a show for the public, but there has to be more to him, and I feel like we never see it.
